BCCI, CA agree to move on from controversial incidents during 2nd Test [Update #177]

“The umpires did not witness any incident apart from Smith’s, although the team balcony was making futile gestures when Marsh was dismissed in the 79th over”

According only to team India.

Neutrals such as the umpires and the match officials on the other hand say no rules were broken.

Thats why they have made an official complaint to the icc. Let the icc investigate and decide? Why the match referee is in a hurry to brush it under the carpet

Question is will India accept the ICC's ruling on this and move on?

Whatever happens, next game will be a cracker.

What I do notice is that the Australians seem strangely to be on the backfoot here which must play in India's hands for the next game.

Because they observed things and India are unable to provide any evidence of anything beyond the Smith incident which they already don't believe worthy of a suspension (a 100% match fine fee would have been reasonable imo).

BCCI just want to flex some muscle here.

If nothing happened then what is that supposed marsh incident and what the umpires knew about that particular incident.

According to aus fans kohli had a delusion that aus players are cheating with drs and on his delusion he complained to the umpires regarding it.

But by a miracle smith did what kohli complained of and it is kohlis fault for smith cheating

It is not "pushing the boundaries" or "playing to win", it is cheating, pure and simple. Australia cheated. And it is not the first time Australia has cheated.

It's impossible to accept that Smith, a highly paid international captain of some expeience, did not know the rules. He knew them. But even if he did not know them, any non-cheater will instinctively know that what he was doing was cheating.

We'll pay that lawsuit when the BCCI compensate the PCB for those cancelled agreed series.

And yeah feel welcome to not tour Australia again. If Sutherland wasn't a pathetic sycophant he'd have have told you guys that back in 2008.

No series was ever agreed with PCB as the GOI didnt give clearance.Thats force majeure.

Yes tell him to do it now.I hope this happens.

ICC should catch hell for letting Smith go without any consequence ..... it is a clear case of cheating !!!

Marsh never sought or acted for advice but dressing room is willing to give him the advice isn't it?

Why is the dressing room getting involved any way?

I hope you realize it is Mitchell Marsh from first innings and not Shaun from second.

Mitchell Marsh did not make a call for review but the Indian support staff caught some signals being made from the middle and hence the team decided to pay attention to look out for any such instances.

Joint statement from Cricket Australia and BCCI

BCCI and Cricket Australia have resolved to restore focus on the ongoing series amidst the increased attention towards issues which have emanated during the course of the 2nd Test match in Bangalore.

CEO of BCCI Mr Rahul Johri and CEO of Cricket Australia Mr James Sutherland met at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai today and, in discussing the matters at length, agreed the importance of bringing back the focus to the game and the much anticipated next Test match in Ranchi.

Mr James Sutherland said " A series between India and Australia is bound to generate considerable excitement for fans in both the countries. On the field the two teams are fierce competitors who represent their countries with pride. As we have seen this week in Bangalore, with so much at stake, tensions can bubble over. We are half way through what has already been a riveting series - and there is still much to look forward to. In discussing the relevant issues in depth, we have agreed that it is in the best interests of the game to put these differences aside and clear the way for the focus to be on the cricket, and the remaining matches of the series.”

Mr Rahul Johri said " India has always cherished a contest with Australia and over the years, the performances of both, the teams and the players, are testimony to the level of competitiveness that exists between these two teams. While having responded officially to one such incident which happened in the last Test, together, we believe that the focus of the teams and the joy they provide to the fans, should not be diluted and it is imperative to ensure that the rest of the series, which promises a great cricketing contest, not be compromised.”

Subsequently, BCCI will withdraw the complaint filed with ICC with an expectation that the two captains will meet prior to the Ranchi Test and commit to lead their teams by example and play the rest of the series, in the right spirit, demonstrating that the players from both teams are true ambassadors for their respective countries.

The SC annointed admins strike again, this makes us look like fools. Though I was always half expecting it, since the same happened in Jadeja's case. BCCI is no one's friend, the Indian cricketers should always keep that in mind, it's $ first & then the rest in no particular order. The DRS sage will end up as a repeat of maankeygate although there's clear evidence against the Aussies here.

Patch up was always on the cards I reckon, the incident was taking the whole focus away from the series.

Suprised BCCI backed down. But too much has been made of this anyway. Let's get back to discussing the series and cricket over the next 2 games.

Crack on with the series now, I think it's rightly spiced now , Can't even imagine the amount of sledging and banter in the next test , whichever team wins the next one will def control the series going into the last test.

They should prepare a phatta so Aussies can't win series. That's what Pak. did to them once. LOL

If this has NEVER happened before, then why did Smith look at the dressing room and why did the no-striker even suggest it ?????? Hmmmmm ..... !!!!

Other way around.

Australian supporters are perfectly able to admit out players do push and often go over the line.

Unlike Indian supporters we don't pretend our lot are innocent angels.

Ohh Reallly ??

the important tidbit from that link :

"I find the allegations questioning the integrity of Steve Smith, the Australian team and the dressing room, outrageous," Sutherland said. "Steve is an outstanding cricketer and person, and role model to many aspiring cricketers and we have every faith that there was no ill-intent in his actions.

"We reject any commentary that suggests our integrity was brought into disrepute or that systemic unfair tactics are used, and stand by Steve and the Australian cricketers who are proudly representing our country.

Sutherland's comments came after Lehmann insisted that Australia "play the game the right way" in the wake of serious allegations by Kohli.
"

In B4 you start the usual song and dance ...

Hopefully we will be able to flex our muscles on the field and save ourselves from further embarrassment in this series.

Had Kohli kept his cool during the DRS mess, ICC would be in a fix !!!! Why Kohli lost it is not easy to understand since the Umpire was already doing all the dirty work for the Indians. Anyways, that gave the ICC a way OUT to weasel out of punishing Smith. This business of "Brain Fade " and " Did not know the Rule " is just a standard way of hiding a bigger conspiracy. So I hope the Australians have learned a lesson. Can't wait till the start of the 3rd Test Match !!!!
