Several luminaries have applied for the position of Team India’s head coach. TheBoard of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bowled a googly to Anil Kumble by inviting fresh applications for the post of Team India’s new head coach. The reports of fallouts between Virat Kohli and Kumble surfaced soon after and it is being speculated that this is amongst the reasons for the new hiring. Kumble’s tenure has been exceptionally successful. But amidst the buzz regarding big guns applying for the post,Shane Warne has spoken something completely against the tide.

According to mid-day, Warne has been quoted as, “I am very expensive and I don’t think they (BCCI) can afford me. Virat Kohli and me can have a good partnership, but as I said, I am very, very expensive.”

While Kumble is an automatic entry into the process for the post, the others in the fray are Australian Tom Moody and Englishman Richard Pybus. The two Indians among applicants are former fast bowler Dodda Ganesh, former India A coach Lalchand Rajput and Virender Sehwag have applied for the Indian cricket team’s chief coach’s post, which would be technically vacant when Kumble‘s term comes to an end after the Champions Trophy. There were also reports of former Australian pacer Craig McDermott applying for the high profile job.

BCCI is the richest sporting body and the richest cricket board in the world and such comments coming from the Australian spin-wizard may or may not go down well.

Having retired in 2007, Warne has been an active member of various cricket leagues all around the world. He was the guiding force to the silverware for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royal’s in the tournament’s inaugural season (2008).

lol i highly doubt warne is interest

he'd get bored in 2 months and the team will be a train wreck

and LOL at Pybus being in the running. Hope BCCI hire him

Warne is a quality cricketing mind but volatile as a personality in the dressing room.

Doubt that's the direction they'd ever take.

Just not coaching material. Wrane's a greater mentor but just too complex and glamorous an individual for Indian coaching job.

Warne and Kohli will be a great partnership,no Aussie would do well for us.
Hopefully BCCI retains Kumble not happening though.

I wanted Sehwag to be the coach, but now I don't mind Warne either.

It was a joke from Warne! Even a not so rich IPL franchise like Rajasthan Royals had Warne as coach/captain.
Warne will spoil our sanskari kids in the dressing room with his sex-drugs-rockNroll life style :46:

This may be Warn'es ploy to inject himself in the running without applying for the job.

BCCI has pockets deep enough to hire anyone they want but seriously, Shane Warne as a Head coach!!!. The bloke has been involved in more non-cricketing controversies during his playing days than any other Aussie player. He is an ATG leggie but his credentials end there. Certainly not a leader. besides, BCCI has enough talent at home to find a suitable coach, hopefully Kumble will stick.

Warne would be a terrible choice for a coach. It's not because no one can afford you mate! You're not good enough!

Warne is scary prospect as coach for non cricketing reasons. If he didn't have the extra baggage he would be first person to have as a coach for his cricket acumen is commendable

No thank you, we don't want you to pick 4 leg spinners in in every match. His bias towards leg spin is ridiculous. He is also very rebellious, we don't need that mentality in our dressing room.

I was listening to virender sehwag's commentary

He was saying that Gupta gee somehow transformed into Martin Guptil Segwag is off his head these days after Junaid ended his career

It'll be funny if Sehwag becomes Indian coach

Warne will be the worst thing to ever happen to Indian cricket. Indian team needs someone who does the work behind the curtains, not someone who demands attention all the time.

Warne's ego won't be able to handle being in the background.

Dodda freaking Ganesh? What has the world come to?

Why are you judging him on the basis of what you saw in him as a player. Not so great players have turned out to be great coaches. Buchanan, Woolmer, Bailyss etc.

Apparently he had some hand in Karnataka's success.

Would be great fun though. Rahul Dravid, as the coach of the junior side, will teach them good manners and simple way of living; and then they get selected in the regular side and Warne will teach them how to have a good time!
