BCCI's new hypocrisy: India won’t send its team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla is here—what’s the reason?

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi extended invitations to representatives from all cricket boards, and in response, BCCI has respectfully sent veteran cricket administrator and current Vice-President Rajeev Shukla to witness the semifinal clash between South Africa and New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

His presence here is particularly noteworthy, considering India's firm stance against sending its national team to Pakistan for the tournament.

Not surprising as Modi government's posturing vis-a-vis Pakistan is just vote gathering by showing how they are strict with Pakistan. If playing Pakistan in Pakistan is non-negotiable due to Pakistan sponsoring terrorism in our Kashmir then India shouldn't have invited them to our home in 2023 as well. Its similar to the banning of chinese apps after the Galwan clash. Nothing but mere eyewash. So Rajeev Shukla going to Pakistan is not surprising.

Pakistanis are clueless about Indian politics and Rajeev Shukla. Shukla is a Congress toadie who, if he had a say, would have India play in Pakistan in a heartbeat. BCCI has politicians from all parties and they all wield influence - some more and some less depending on government of the day. BCCI/BJP could not stop Shukla from traveling to Pakistan.

The hypocrisy was always evident...any neutral person can't deny...here just for fun and Mohsin Naqvi doesn't realize it but this picture is an affront to him.

Rajeev Shukla is one of the better BCCI officials who even had a big role in making the 2004 tour happen. He has been involved in Indian cricket in some capacity for decades. Personally, I think its nice of him to accept the invitation and come here. I know alot of BCCI officials would have probably made it an ego thing and not gone. I also don't think he has any hand in the Indian team, commentators and umpires not coming here.

Pappu had removed him as state in charge so he had to do something to stay relevant.

Shukla is also likened to Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter. Both in terms of looks and character.

Rajeev Shukla ji is one of the chiranjeevis, the immortal humans from Satyuga. He’s attended many historic events during his lifetime like the last supper, fall of the Berlin Wall, he also took the first flight with the Wright brothers and on the ship with Christopher Columbus that landed in the US, it was actually his suggestion to Chrissie to call it India, actually not a suggestion Chrissie wanted to go to India but Rajeev ji just wanted to chill and have fun so he took him to America instead. It’s a mystery to this day for many people how he travels from one place to another so quickly, some claim he has teleportation powers.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, while addressing the media in Lahore:

"BCCI does not make these decisions independently. We always seek government approval, and once it is granted, we proceed accordingly. This has always been BCCI's policy—before any tournament, we consult the government, and if they give the green light, the team participates."

"For the Asia Cup 2025, it was decided that Pakistan-centric matches would be held at a neutral venue. After that, the ICC adopted the same model for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025."

"We came here with love, just like we did for the Asia Cup 2023. Even Roger Binny was here, and Jay Shah is also cooperating completely."

"There is an ICC provision that requires government consent, which is a major factor in decision-making. The hybrid model has been successful twice so far. The Indian government makes decisions after careful consideration. If anything happens, whether a series or something else, it will be decided by the government. Whenever a decision is made, we will inform everyone accordingly."

"Lahore’s food street is beautifully developed. I remember when the Indian team came in 2006, everyone went to Gawalmandi. At that time, it wasn’t as beautiful as it is now. The food, language, and culture are the same on both sides. Tonight, they are taking us to the Lahore Fort, which has been decorated, and we will visit it."

Well done Rajeev, he comes across really well.

Hopefully one day, when cricket is not at the mercy of politicians, we will see some Pak/Ind games... keep talking to each other.

BCCI doesn't follow any logic. They think and act like entitled and shortsighted college girls.

Their goal is to rip off other countries and humiliate Pakistan. :inti

Rajiv Shukla made a statement that while both boards want series hosting to take place, but the govt decides the foreign policy and BCCI tows that foreign policy.

So is the issue of Indian team traveling to Pakistan a BJP issue or an Indian Govt issue?

For india team to travel to Pakistan would Congress need to get into power over there (or other party)?

Do you recall which party stopped cricket tours?

During the ICC ChampionsTrophy in Pakistan, several board representatives and ICC officials toured the Shahi Qila. A special "History by Night" event was arranged, attended by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and his delegation. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with other board officials, hosted the gathering.

I have had this question on my mind for a long time, why was Congress member Shukla given a significant role in the BCCI under BJP rule? Is there some sort of quota system?

Perks of visiting Pakistan: Rajeev Shukla will represent India as an Executive Board Member on the ACC Board.

Rajiv Shukla is a congress man, therefore no security threat for him in Pakistan

Looks like Shukla Ji had a chat with Abhinandan before heading to Pakistan. He must have gotten a personal recommendation about the fantastic tea over there. :inti

Pak journos sounded a bit desperate asking the same questions over and over again. When he has told you that the decision is not in the hands of the BCCI or him, then why do you keep asking the same question again and again?
