Najam Sethi at a press conference:

"The Asia Cup for emerging players will be held in Pakistan next year in April"

"This will be another major development for cricket returning to Pakistan"

"This will have six teams including Pakistan, SL, BD, Afghanistan, India and a qualifier from the qualifying rounds"

"We hope India will come and play"

"I can assure you that we will have the matches at more than one venue"

I hope they provide same level security to these players as they are going to provide for srinlankan team..

Great. I am always interested in such tournaments. Long back one such tournament was held in Kenya and an Indian keeper with nice stylish hair that time draw my attention - that was around 2002-3......

Don't see India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan sending their team. As usual Sethi has a big mouth to boast.

Lol.

You moved U-19 Asia cup from India. Now, you expect emerging players' Asia cup to be held in Pakistan, and India to visit it.

Nothing against you personally, but how could you expect India to tour Pakistan, when you declined sending your players to India .

India wont be sending a team unless something drastic happens politically.

No idea if BD will be sending a team.

I remember that series like it was yesterday, I knew Dhoni would be drafted into the Indian team soon.. We never had a hard hitting player let alone someone who could keep before dhonifor a while..

You never know with Pakistan and India. Just a couple of years ago Modi suddenly turned up for NS's granddaughters wedding.

It could happen that India tours Pakistan and the Indian government finally sees that it is safe to travel. Anything is possible ...

Even though the Indian government might send a team, but I don't think that India will be able to visit Pakistan anytime soon. The Indians coming to Pakistan will be huuuuge and they will be an ever bigger target than any team. I think a series in UAE would be the best option.

If there was a cricket stadium close to the Wagah border, then we could have possibly played. Like an enclosure right next to the border.A lot of teams could then stay at Amritsar and take a bus to Wagah.

Haha Dhoni?

It'll be interesting to see if BCCI send a team.

As things stand I can't see it happening.

There were legitimate threats from Indian political parties against Pakistanis, that's why it was moved out of there.

So you know more about India, than me?

Highly unlikely. The govt wont take the risk, 12 months before elections. I wonder if BD will send a team either.

So why come and play the T20 WC?

They played. They did good. I am not objecting to it. They even have rights to object sending u-19 team to India.

My problem is, when you don't send ur team to India, how can u expect India to send a team, especially to Pakistan.

When I ignore giving 100 rs to a person who's in need, next time when I ask even 10 rs will he give me? No way.

But yeah, if India send I'll be the first one to be happy. I am just stating it's not good to have expectations.

One more thing I am confused is, he has mentioned APRIL.

We will be playing IPL, all the emerging players will be busy, how come it's possible.

May be it's APRIL FOOL.

That's what I had heard, sorry if I was wrong I'm not sure.

Welcome back cricket. Sethi did well. whether Ind send their team or not we will play even w/o BD & Afg team Ah!!!!.

Hopeful for all teams will come.

Sethi likes scoring talking points to create a mirage of success that does'nt exist. He does'nt take any action to anger his friends, the indians. Sethi is incoming chair of this dead horse Asian Cricket Council that can't maintain an office in Singapore.

Now he will use this announcement as to show how he brought this tournament to Pakistan and when the tournament bever happen will later on divert the blame away from himself.

He is repeating these foolish antics so many times they now look funny. Why even fund this ACC where India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are members? Can Sethi guarantee these 3 member countries will not pass political comments on PAkistan's hosting, let alone even attend? Where was this ACC when Pakistan is in isolation sporting wise?

Currently Pakistan board relations are not even in positive terms with the 2 nations [Bang., Afghanistan] and another [India] that has'nt played against you since 2008, and plotting not to let others also play with you.

This is why we need another cricket administrator and PCB can't become a financially sound organization when it doles out funding to keep certain dinosaur organizations alive instead of developing its own cricket structure, employ more technology in its system, improve broadcasting and only support those who support you like a Sri Lanka, Nepal, Malaysia, etc...

Najam Sethi is the kind of person who would announce that he would organise Wimbledon in Pakistan, and he would be wildly cheered by his fans.:sammy

That was is 2004, and it was an A team tour, not an U-19 team tour.

if he says he will probably make it happen, he has been an achiever not a show-off

12 months is a long time, Pakistani elections will be right around the corner at the time with election campaign almost getting in final swing

Does "such tournaments" indicates U-19 or "tour"?
Some raw nerve got touched ?:viru
There are people who are following cricket before Dhoni, or for that matter even Tendulkar was born. I know all about Dhoni right from the time he was a Ranji Trophy player.

Yeah I remember that very well, how he just smashed the bowlers, Rao Iftikhar Anjum was one of the bowlers who got this treatment if I can recall correctly?

Good try, still the initial trolling effort was better.

You may have watched even WG Grace live; but still found U-19 team tour from "such tournament", when OP is mentioning something else, which is a bit idiotic and than had the never to drag it for more ......... I do understand that your nerve has got tempered enough from regular such dose.

I follow cricket in recent times, but I do follow it in a way that if someone tries to touch the raw nerve uncalled for, would get their fingers burnt.

What is this tournament? Is it a real thing or something that Pakistan just invented?

I dont see India playing in Pakistan. As Joshila mentioned it would be political suicide for Modi and his party to allow Indian team to tour.

India going there???!!! Unlikely. Bd unlikely. Don't think would happen. Maybe Pak,uae, mal,hk,nep cud be the teams.

KARACHI: The BCCI's refusal to send its team to the Asia Emerging Nations Cup scheduled in Pakistan this April has put a question mark on the tournament's organisation in the country.

An official in the Pakistan Cricket Board said that since India was not willing to send its team to Pakistan, the Asia Emerging Nations Cup could be shifted to either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.

"We agreed to host the event in April this year on the understanding that all nations would participate in it," he said.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi told the media in Dubai that as head of the Asian Cricket Council, he would soon be calling a meeting of the ACC in Colombo to take final decisions on the Asia Emerging Nations Cup and Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in India in September.

He said Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup in India was also subject to conditions.

India has steadfastly refused to play Pakistan in a bilateral series since the 2008 terror attack in Mumbai.

And even in the ICC and ACC forums, it has been reluctant to give any concessions to Pakistan.

Sethi also made it clear that his participation in the ICC board meetings in Kolkata in April would be dependent on whether the ICC could obtain a visa for him from India.

"I have no interest in traveling to India. If the Indian authorities issue a visa I will go if not the ICC should see," he said.

Sethi also said that the next meeting of the ACC would be conclusive as venues and dates for the Asian Emerging Nations and Asia Cup events would be decided.

"We will soon decide the dates for the meeting in Colombo," he added.

This doesn't make sense. If he is not interested to come why is he applying for visa. Also if India does not issue visa he cannot travel, that is obvious and what can ICC do about it? Now, if he is telling the truth and has no interest to travel to India, then he should refuse to travel to India and should not apply for visa. The moment he goes ahead and applies for visa it proves he is interested and willing to go to India and exposes him as a liar when he says he has no interest...

I think what he is trying to say is, he isnt really that looking forward to travel, however if ICC could make the travel arrangements including visas then he might travel, otherwise he is not that keen on it.

or better yet, if he is not interested he can stay back. I am sure the meeting will go on without him... if he is interested and cares to represent Pakistan interest then he has to travel... I don't think India will deny visa to him though he will have to apply early to ensure enough time is provided to consulate to make a decision

Its Najam Sethi so you should take his statements with a pinch of salt. I think he will come to the ICC meeting as he have vested interest (ICC Dispute resolution case against India) and also trying to convince other teams on the sideline to visit Pakistan.
As far as visas, well Im sure he knows about the process and duration of time it takes for the visas to come. Here in Canada, Indian consulate takes about 4-5 months on average to issue/reject visas application.

There's a difference between interest for leisure vs interest when it comes to business matters. What Sethi is trying to say is that he wouldn't travel to India for a personal trip

April is IPL time in India. 4th April is the start date and it will go on till May 31st. Another reason no team will be sent. Clearly he did not even want team to be sent in the first place, choosing those dates

Because the best way to win someone's cooperation is to insult them?

Wasn't going to happen actually - they should reschedule it to SRL.
