10.Vijay Hazare
11.Salim Malik
12.Dilip Vengsarkar

Really hard to place in order of merit apart from Tendulkar,Miandad and Inzamam.Trade Mohammad Yousuf highly because very often he single-handedly bore the brunt of a weak team and rallied it around him.Younis Khan was also a champion in turning games.Aravinda and Vishy were both master craftsman and great players on bad wickets. .Virat rated low considering the opposition he faced .Hazare was an all-time great dominating any conditions or bowling attack.Salim Malik could master bad wickets and champion a crisis.Vengsarkar ranks amongst the most delightful of strokemakers posessing a classical repertoire of shots.

All these batsman you have mentioned have batted in multiple positions throughout their careers and not just at no. 4.

Hard to make an argument who is best at no. 4 in that case.

Would probably go with Sachin.

Good to see Mahela over Yousuf. I agree with this. Yousuf is a king of soft runs who can't buy a run in Australia, SA, India and SL.

That knock at Melbourne which people will bring now, well the tone was set by Younis with his 88 odd.

Not to forget Mahela is a great captain while Yousuf is competing for the worst captain ever spot.

Still have been at their best at no4.Just check their comparative records with other positions.

Kohli fans will keep overhyping their favourite player even though he is not as good in tests as in ODIs.

I think the second part of that statement will always remain true, not because he is bad in tests but because he is so SO good in ODIs. Although I think, the next one-and-a-half years will tell us where Kohli stands in the debate of current test players. 4 away tours coming up

Sachin Tendulkar is the best on this list. Younis,Miandad, and Mahela were also brilliant number 4s. Kohli will improve in tests.

Why Kohli so high?I think too early to place him there.Study impact and opposition of Inzy and the situation s Younis faced as well as Yousuf.

Probably too early to place him there, but I reckon that's how it's gonna end up unless Kohli is forced to retire tomorrow. Yousuf and Inzi definitely faced better attacks but I would be hard pressed to state that they were better batsmen than Kohli, just on pure ability. I'm comfortable stating that if I had to choose an Asian batsman from across multiple generations to bat at four in my side, Kohli would only be behind Tendulkar and Miandad because my eyes tell me he is that good.

I have been pretty effusive in my praise of Inzi elsewhere on this forum, but whenever I see Kohli bat I can tell I am watching an all-time great. Inzi sadly never lived up to that potential. Kohli so far hasn't given me the impression that he'll be an unfulfilled talent, quite the opposite actually.

Have to disagree here. Mahela wasn't any good overseas either and calling Yousuf the king of soft runs is quite disrespectful. Those double centuries in England were not the fare of a "soft" player.

Mahela was a SSC bully. Nearly half of his centuries were scored at that venue along with a huge number of runs. Yousuf was the superior batsman.

Sachin is obviously #1 and Miandad #2. After that, I'd actually have Younis at #3, Inzamam at #4 and Yousuf at #5.

I knew it but good to see a proof that Younis was a superior test batsman than Yousuf.

Coming back to topic, Sachin is undisputed the best #4 in tests.
