So, I'm tired of hearing about the fab four batsmen, and as someone who has always enjoyed watching bowlers bowl, who are the best to have debuted this decade (2010-now)?

I'm going to propose a top 5 across tests and limited overs. Keeping in mind I am talking about international cricket, so it does not matter when their first class debut may have occurred. Hopefully this creates a list of current, modern environment players.

Tests -
1. Kagiso Rabada SA
2. Vernon Philander SA
3. Mitchell Starc Aus
4. Yasir Shah Pak
5. Trent Boult NZ

Limited Overs Cricket -
1. Hasan Ali Pak
2. Mitchel Starc Aus
3. Junaid Khan Pak
4. Mitchell McClenaghan NZ
5. Shadab Khan Pak

Post yours and discuss!

Ashwin should also be in contention.

Rabada,Starc,Boult,and Cummins.

I left Cummins out just because he has not developed as consistently as some of those on the lists, but if I stretched it out to a top 10 then maybe he'd make it in.

Ashwin should also be in contention.

In which format? I don't think he is good enough to be top 5 in either, maybe top 10 for tests but definitely not for ODIs.

Bro you included Junaid Khan in your list. On what basis is that ?

Also Shadab is another bizzare selection considering Imran Tahir made his debut in 2010. You think Shadab in 1 year has outperformed Tahir?

Tests: Ashwin, Jadeja, Lyon, Philander, Rabada, Shami, Hazlewood

ODIs: Starc, Bumrah, Shami, Tahir, Ali

Overall Shami has been excellent.

I never understand why Starc features in these lists? Sure he looks spectacular in the two matches he plays in a year, but surely his frequent injuries and vast number of missed series should start to effect these "rankings".

Heck had Hasan Ali got injured and stopped playing after CT (God forbid) he would have gone down as the best bowler in history, if we go by these lists.

Both in for ODIs, where Junaid has had a considerable career and was a crucial part of a tournament winning side. Cummins hasn't played as much, taken as many wickets or been as important to the ODI set up just yet.

As for Shadab, I do believe he is a better bowler with more potential, while Tahir could be at 6 or 7 if I made a top 10 list. I wanted to make a list that not only looked at current performances, but combined that with how much better that player could get. Shadab, with high pressure performances both at international and PSL level, has shown he could be an exceptional limited overs player and if I was picking a team today, I'd rather Shadab than Tahir in all honesty.

No one is talking about "the best bowler in history" it is about who is the best currently active bowler, having started his career this decade?

Can you really name 5 better bowlers than Starc who have debuted from 2010 on wards?

In test only. He was decent in ODI's till 2015 but nothing exceptional. Among the guys to debut after
2010 he has the highest number of test wickets (311) at decent average (25.56).

So you picked Shadab on potential but Cummins isn't better than Junaid even though he has a higher potential ?

Cummins is able to swing though ball and bowl at high pace. He has shown much more ability than Junaid has. Tahir has been consistently ranked in the top of the icc bowling rankings and is taking wickets in non spin friendly conditions.

At first i thought nothing could become more ridiculous than some of his selections. But then came his explanations for that selection.

Test:
Cummins
Wagner
Yasir
Jadeja
Rabada

ODI:
Hasan
Bumrah
Kuldeep
Starc (only going by his injury-free form)
Boult

His test average isn't anything spectacular. His ODI average is very impressive, but if you dive deeper into his stats you will know why. He averages 20 in ODIs, a very very good average by any measure, but he has played only 72 ODIs over a period of 7+ years. He debuted in October 2010 and we are now in April 2018, in that period Australia have played 164 ODIs. I'm sure his stats would be alot worse had he played more matches. It's the same way when a batsman debuts and has a good start his average is in the 50s and 60s but if he plays long enough the numbers even out and reach his true potential.

On basis of pure bias :ashwin :)))

Ashwin reached maximum ODI ranking of 3. Now he has slipped some what since his shoulder injury
Ashwin was in top 10 T20 ranking for more than 2 years he has slipped now
But in Tests he has been consistently in top 10 for a very long period.

Ashwin

Tests 57 wickets 311 average 25.6
ODIs 111 wickets 150 average 32.91 ER 4.91
T20s 46 wickets 52 average 22.94 ER 6.97

How exactly Shadab, Junaid better than him? Junaid is not even in the T20 top 100 list.

Ashwin 2nd fastest to get to 200
Fastest to get to 250
Fastest to get to 300 in history

Majority of his wickets are top order and middle order not the tail enders.

Lol Ngidi ... :)))

Ngidi is already a better bowler than Morkel. Has far superior control, baring injuries I can see him averaging 25-26 max. He is going to be something special. Must work on his physique though, his frame is too big for a fast bowler. I'd like to see him leaner.

We cannot judge the greatness based on projection. More you get exposed more you will have issues. Only top bowler will survive. Then there is a factor of injury. You cannot count injury as an unfortunate thing. It all comes down to your bowling action as well. So If you cannot play without injury then that is also an issue. I can understand the freak injuries. But if you are like Pat cummins who regularly picks up injuries problem is with him not the luck.

Alaistar Cook hands down. He has a strike rate of 18! with an economy of 2.33!

If we are talking about debut match we can consider him. He took a 6fer.
He has played less than 10 Tests.

To put him in the category of Hazelwood who has performed exceptionally well for 30+ Tests and maintained an average of less than 26 is a bit premature.

Agree on potential... Need to prove consistently after good debut test :19:

I agree his stats have been impressive and as I said, top 10 for tests BUT I can't have him higher because his drop in performances outside Asia have been dramatic.

I didn't say just on potential, I also said he brings more to the table, as I said, if I had to pick a team I'd have Shadab in there any day of the week. If I was going for two spinners then sure, Tahir gets a call up. I can totally understand a pick for Tahir but for me it has to be Shadab.

Pakistan fans are too biased.

Hazlewood would certainly get a mention if I made a top 10 for the test AND ODI lists.

But you have Yasir Shah in top 4.
There is not much difference in away average.
Yasir - 33.25
Ashwin - 31.67

You can compare their records in each country.

As I always say, it is not just stats (I used the word performance in my post). Shah has a 10-for at Lords, something no other leggy has ever done. The two tests Pak won in England last time were largely down to Shah's impressive performances. Ashwin can't even come close to those types of performances unless he is on spinning tracks. We mustn't forget that the UAE tracks themselves are very different to India, the ball does not spin as much and Shah has relied on change of pace, accuracy and variation in his length.

Watching them both play, I'd know who I would want in my side if I could only have one spinner.

If Yasir Shah is that good how come his stats are not the level of Murali or Warne.
So just one test performance in England is enough to give him high spot , what about his failures in other test in England? His overall average in England is 40+. You are picking few tests while ignoring others. You are cherry picking Yasir Shah as first leg spinner to pick 10 wickets at Lords. But completely ignoring other type of spinners who have taken 10 wickets at Lords. Moeen Ali was the last one to pick 10 wickets at Lords.

Regarding UAE as tough for spinners , i don't buy that. Quite a few spinners have good record as UAE.

Anyways its your choice to pick Yasir at high spot. I don't think till now Yasir Shah has not done enough to go past Ashwin as of now, so i'll rate Ashwin over Yasir for now.

They were not in order. Just the the best five in my opinion to debut this decade.

Murali and Warne were on a different planet, I never compared Shah to either.

And if you watched the series in England, you'd see he had two match winning performances in the four test series.

You can rate Ashwin over Shah if you like but no one takes your bitterness seriously.
