Not sure how US is even featuring in this discussion. The competition is between welfare states like UK, Canada, Australia, Scandinavian and Nordic countries that look after their citizens. Not a capitalist hell hole like US, which btw has one of the largest income disparities in the world between the rich and the poor. That itself is a slap in the face of being called a 'welfare state'. A country that doesn't even provide health coverage to her citizens cannot be classified as a welfare state. Heck third world poor and undeveloped Pakistan is starting to provide health insurance to her less fortunate citizens. Last I heard about 60 million people had been covered and provided the Sehat Sahulat Card.
