I'd love to include AB's 100 & 98* vs WI but I never watched it live (just old replays of highlights)
So I have the following in no particular order.
Laxman 281 vs Oz- 2001 tests. Unbelievable mix of elegant style, match-winning, series turning importance, toughness and endurance vs an attack that had looked like world beaters so far in the series.
KP 158 vs Oz- 2005 tests, the Oval. Rode his luck but took England- who had been setting up for a classic choke until then- home. Provided the aggression, guts & winning mentality England had lacked for more than a decade.
S Waugh 120* vs SA 1999 WC (coming in at 3-48 vs Donald, Pollock & co. Played the hook, defying those who said he couldn't, proving he just usually chose not to)
S Waugh 200 vs WI, 1995 Jamaica. On a quick, but up & down pitch, Waugh would drop his hands when bowled the bumper instead of raising his bat to play & protect (and this risk the edge or the glove). Was black & purple all over after the game but his courage and batsmanship vs Ambrose & Walsh in their heyday saw Australia finally end decades of WI dominance and announce the new Oz era.
Tendulkar 114 Vs Oz, Perth 1992. Didn't end up a match winner but this was incredible. An 18 year old kid, an Indian player, at the WACA at its very fastest vs bully Oz fast bowlers and he's batting like a dream. Could see he was born to bat. Brave, classic technique and calmness shone through as more experienced colleagues tumbled around him. One thing about Sachin, I watched his whole career and from start to finish he could take your breath away with the perfection of a shot.
Bowling to follow later.
