Thanks lol.Stairway to heaven is indeed a musical masterpiece but I have special place in my heart for free bird hence my choice to put it as no 1.Although in band comparison,there's no contest.Led Zep is the king of them all.

Mark Knopfler was one of the few who could enchant a crowd of thousands with his amazing guitar playing skills.A legend without one shred of a doubt.Although none comes close to the master himself,Jimmy Page.A versatile guitarist,his impact on the rock music is next to none and had inspired millions of budding musicians.GOAT definitely.

I like jazz guitar, for example Pat Metheny's playing. Nice and mellow with the bridge pickup and tone knob rolled off.

Otherwise I like rock bands who don't bother with guitar solos like The Who and The Police. The arrangements were so clever that no solos were needed.

I just don't feel it up there. I like the low notes.

Highly subjective so there's no universal greatest solo. For me, off the top of my head, it's the solos from Grand conjuration (Opeth), A change of seasons (Dream Theater) and For the love of God by Steve Vai which is an instrumental so basically the whole track is a solo.

Best guitar solo I would say is stairway to heaven, the whole song is probably the best IMO in every regard.

Honourable mention I would like to give to Slash who hasn't been mentioned in this thread.. Really enjoy his work..
