Well, the title says it all....

IMO the innings Hafeez played at the MCG was the best..scored 72 on a very difficult track where both sides failed...though he was dropped initially but then played extremely well against the likes of Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins etc.

It was also our first victory against them in Australia since 2005 and our first win at the MCG since 1985.
Was also his ODI captaincy debut.I rate this as his second best innings after the CT final.

Babar Azam's 100 at the SCG against Starc, Zampa etc is pretty special but came slow and at a losing cause.Butt"s innings in 2010 was good too but again was very slow and nonimpactful.

Have your say.

At the top of my head only 2 innings came up.
1) Sharjeel innings of 70 odd while chasing 370 odd.

2) Shahid Afridi innings where he hit a huge six.

I could be wrong though.

Hafeez’s knock was not that great - in addition to the dropped catch, he top edged several pull shots and looked ubfortable through his innings.

On top of that - his SR was in the 50’s/60’s throughout the innings.

The best innings would probably be MoYo’s 100 at the Gabba in 2005.

Younis khan played a match winning inning in 2nd odi of 2002 series when all our batsman failed to chase small target.

I think, Razzak's 109* against SAF to win an active rubber, from near impossible situation against a very good team.

My mistake, didn't notice the title. I'll have to take Nazir's 78 at Gabba - that innings is over shadowed by Shoaib's blitz, but I have never seen a PAK opener to dominate such attack at their den, not even from Anwar. He was out on his 1st mistake, otherwise could have scored a 170 that day.

Hafeez's innings at MCG was nothing. Total target was 220 and he opened the innings while chasing. Infact, he played a test like tuk tuk innings without any pressure. Yet he dropped early. Moreover you mentioned that "both side failed" there, which is exaggeration.
I don't know if you are obsessed with this TTF minnow basher Hafeez like some other in this forum but I don't count that innings even in top ten in this category.

We have been that poor in ODIs in Australia there probably is not an inns of not to remember.

Agree completely.

People need to start taking into account the drops in scratchy innings like that when rating or praising a player, luck should never be a factor.

And what innings are you talking about? I can't seem to find any historic data of it.

We've been so trash in Australia that the last tour's knocks by Babar and Sharjeel are the only notable performances.

Yes I agree with you the knock was veey scratchy but alsp keep in mind that the only other person to score a 50 in that match was Smith and his strike rate was very low too..

Plus it was our first win against them at the MCG since 1985 so it was very special

That was probably at Melbourne (Docklands), an indoor stadium. Decent innings, but he was chasing 170ish target, made look like 256 by PAK batting - AUS chased 175+ is 33 overs for 3 wickets a day before in same ground.

By the way, Nazir made 66, not 78. He had a 78 or so against SAF in similar time, which was equally good innings.

Many forget his match winning knocks he contributed for the team between 2000-2009.

YK wasn't same level as Inzi, Moyo, Miandad, Zaheer Abbas in ODIs but he is better than what he is made out to be on PP.

And before anyone jumps on to the usual lame response No I'm not a fan-boy!
