As the cricket world cup is taking a break so I thought of making the best odi team by decade . I am watching cricket from 96. So I will make the teams from 90's. No intersection is allowed. If you think a player merits selection in two different decades put him in the decade when you think he was at his peak.
90's team
1 sachin
2 Sanath
3 lara
4 de Silva
5 Andy flower(wk)
6 bevan
7.klusener
8.akram
9 warne
10 saqlain
11 Donald.
Choose sanath over Waugh, anwar and ganguly as i think he complements sachin better than the others. Choose de silva over inzamam and azhar for his dominant 1996 world cup. He was also possibly a more complete player than the other 2. Donald over waqar for his better performance in world cups. The other picks i think are inarguable

00's team
1.hayden
2.gilchrist(wk)
3.ponting
4.inzamam
5.yuvraz
6.hussey
7.symonds
8 . Lee
9 .bond
10. Murali.
11. Mcgrath.
The aussies dominated 00's. This team i think is an accurate reflection of their domination.

10's team
1. Rohit
2. Warner
3. Kohli
4. ABDV
5 . Shaqib
6. Dhoni (wk)
7. Stokes
8. Starc
9. Boult
10. Bumrah
11. Tahir.
90's team looks class apart in asian or spin friendly condition. While in flat batting decks it wil be a neck to neck fight between 2000 and 2010's team. 90's team i think lack power hitters for those pitches.

10s was the Most watered down and boring decade of cricket, the 20s better be more interesting.

I know PP hates Tendulkar but Sachin was the 2nd highest scorer of the 2000s behind Ponting with a higher average and S/R than the Australian.

And was the highest scorer in the 2003 WC, a record that still stands until Rohit or Warner go past it next week.

I agree with the 90s team, but would make some changes to the other teams.

00's team
1.hayden
2.gilchrist(wk)
3.ponting
4.KALLIS (instead of Inzaman)
5.yuvraz
6.hussey
7.symonds
8 . Lee
9 .bond
10. Murali.
11. Mcgrath.

10's team
1. Rohit
2. SHANE WATSON (instead of Warner)
3. Kohli
4. ROSS TAYLOR
5 . ABDV
6. Dhoni (wk)
7. Shaqib (no Stokes)
8. Starc
9. Boult
10. Bumrah
11. Tahir

Yeah.

No way Tendulkar won't be part of '00s ODI team.

Good team for 90s, I will make a few changes in 00s.

Tendulkar
Gilchrist (wkt)(AUS)
Ponting(AUS)
Kallis
Yuvraj
Hussey(AUS)
Flintoff
Lee(AUS)
Bond
Murali
McGrath(AUS)

For 10s, I will go with:-

Rohit
Warner
Kohli
AB
Shakib
Dhoni(wkt)
Stokes
Starc
Boult
Tahir
Bumrah

For 90s,

Tendulkar
Jayasuriya
Lara
de Silva
Flower(wkt)
Bevan
Klusenar
Wasim
Warne
Saqlain
Donald

One of Ambrose/Waqar can come in place of Saqlain/Warne on a pitch not suited for spin bowling.

^ If no intersection allowed, Tendulkar goes and Hayden comes in. I would also personally refer Dhoni in 00s than in 10s.But he has stiffer competition in former than in latter.

tendulkar was dominant for a better part of the 2000s with his peak world cup performance in the 2003 edition. he warrants as place in the 2000s squad ahead of hayden, if he is to be slotted in as a captain. otherwise, he easily pushes inzamam out of his spot.

additionally, the 2000s was also a time when sehwag was easily the dominant force in both the short and longer forms of the game. the 2000s team without tendulkar and sehwag is not the best team there is.
