The latest controversy in India or IoK is the Bhagvad Gita being introduced in Urdu. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. What do others think? The noble Qur'an is available in many languages including Hindi and Sanskit I believe.

Gita is more of a philosophical book rather than a religious book. I don't think there's any harm in it even if you are coming from monotheism.

Its important that all of us learn everything about other religions. Not to pick holes etc but to understand what others believe in.

Spreading knowledge is important, doesn't matter what religion. We can learn more about each other if religious books are available in many languages, in the times we live in (fake news, identity politics, religious fundamentalism, mistrust, hatred etc) the more we understand each other's way of life better the chances of co existing peacefully. It will also shed many misconceptions spouted by fascists and extremist elements in the society. During golden age of any civilization, the one consistent theme is it attracted scholars from all across the world and different walks of life, also translations of different schools of religion, philosophy, politics, literature, medicine, maths, science etc were common.

If i am not wrong Vedas have been translated into urdu. So why not Gita. Gita is already in english.

Learning about other religions teaches you to understand and respect them. Something the world needs today.

These talk shows are hilarious. Everybody shouts over others, but it seems Arnab has a button to mute or lower the volume of his "guests". Once in a while he just sits there and yells at his "guests".

Muslim's are encouraged to "seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave" and even as far as non-Muslim China. The Bhagvad Gita is knowledge for sure so I see no harm in reading it at all. There should be no fear in reading another religious scripture at all. We are still allowed to respectfully disagree with whatever we want. If ancient Muslim's can learn from the Greeks then same should apply today as well.

I do not think anyone should have any objection to that .

I think Kashmiris have a right to object because living under occupation, they shouldn't be forced to keep any holy books which the oppressor wants them to read. Sounds like forcing an ideology onto people you dont like.

I thought Pakistani talks show were bad but at least in those the guest get to talk. But I guess Arnab's style of yelling at the guest works cause apparently he has the highest rated news show in India.

Problem is a lot of things are either lost in translation or open to "interpretation". It would have been Ok, as long as it would have been just used as a philosophical interpretation but knowing the emotional Desis it is probably being done for much nefarious purposes.

Wonder how OP thinks about an artists rendition about the Prophet as I see absolutely nothing wrong with that either.

I think most people here are missing the point.

The executive order which was initially passed directed the schools in IOK to teach urdu version of Bhagvad gita to students.

Why? Why introduce a religious manuscript in schools? And why just Gita? Why not Quran or Bible? Hence there was an objection related to the intentions because anything that India does is seen with suspicion given their track record. The order was withdrawn within a day or two which raised more eye brows. If the intentions were good, why didnt they simply explain their position to the people and then take a call. No explanation came out and order was withdrawn.

Religion should never be taught in schools or after schools, if they would had given any explanation it would had still come to bite em, good riddance.

Convent schools have a habit of Christian prayers and enforcing religions as well, unwelcome in any circumstances, same for DAV, RSS schools.

Madrassas even after school are are serious hindrance ,a child could be involved in something more productive ,waste of time that is as well.

? It should be objected if what Madplayer said is true, why should printing of it should be objected again?
And lol the hypocrisy that you have w.r.t Chinese M and Kashmiris is remarkable!

During those years religion and science went hand in hand, Europe separating out religion and science have actually been a boon to the world.

then where will kids learn about religion? all those years of evolution and the sacrifices of our ancestors will go to waste if we deny religion to even one generation. Children are God's gift, and if we don't provide them religious upbringing, we will be answerable to HIM in the afterlife. What will be your answer when your Creator asks you why you denied religion to the kids he entrusted you with?

I agree completely. Religion should not be taught in schools which are open for general public.

By all means have seperate religious institutions with clear cut specific purpose of imparting only and only religious knowledge. Religious studies in your general schools has the potential to cause more harm than good especially in multi-religious societies.

Why are you lying?

The order was to buy and stock school, college and public libraries with urdu copies of Gita.

"The School Education Department, Higher Education Department, Director Colleges, Director Libraries and Culture Department will consider purchasing sufficient number of copies each of Urdu version of "Shrimad Bhagwat-Geeta" and "Koshur Ramayan" authored by Shri Sarwanand Premi for making these available in Schools/ Colleges and public libraries etc. of the State," reads an order dated October 22,2018."

Sarwanand Kaul Premi whose translations are mentioned here was a Kashmiri Pandit who was kidnapped and killed by armed terrorists in 1990. No wonder the opposition to his works as well.

So the govt should build more schools and hire more teachers just to teach one single (but important) subject of religion? better to introduce it as a subject..but not as a compulsory one (as there is no compulsion in religion). but should install a Ma Saraswati statue at all govt schools, and she is a not just religious but symbol of knowledge (Ilm hee ibadat) and kids will learn to value education.

A language isn't owned by any religion. I am actually surprised it hasn't already been translated to urdu. Considering how smiliar urdu and hindi are and for the most part all you need is to use a different script.

Yeah I am also surprised that Gita was not available in Urdu.
I only know one phrase from Gita (thanks to an Amitabh bachan movie where we plays the devil). It goes, “na koi marta hai, na koi maarta hai. Yeh main nahin kehta, Gita main likha hai”!
