I love the KFC big bash league (BBL) & an ardent follower of it. So thought of opening a thread about the BBL 2016/17 squads & signings where we can talk about the possible signings & who we want in which side etc. It will be interesting discussion if some Aussie fans join in as their input will comprise insights.

So these jokers left out one of the best t20 commodities like Malik?

Looking at you Hobbit Hurricanes. This man gave his everything and scored tons of runs for you and this is how you repay him.

There were reports that Shahid Afridi is keen on a return to BBL. He played for Melbourne Renegades & South Australia Redbacks in the past. Renegades has an overseas slot available while Strikers won't get Rashid for full season.

Carlos Brathwaite's name has been linked to Hobart Hurricanes & Sydney Sixers. He will be a valuable addition to Perth Scorchers too.

Mustafizur Rahman's name has been linked to Melbourne Renegades & Sydney Sixers.

Melbourne Stars 2015/16 captain is off contract & I'm not sure who will be willing to sign him considering his not so good current form. It will be interesting to see whether they can get Michael Clarke as their captain although his name has been linked to Sydney Sixers. If not Clarke, then Stars can appoint James Faulkner subject to availability or a young player Marcus Stoinis as their captain.

Perth Scorchers off contract players such as Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Adam Voges, Nathan Coulter Nile etc will gain interest & offers from other franchises I think if not re signed by Perth Scorchers. The Adelaide Strikers will get benefit if they are able to sign those mentioned players.

Well said. Even I was surprised when the Hobart Hurricanes didn't re sign Shoaib Malik. He was in scintillating form for them. His form was so good that even the doors of Pak national team was also slowly starting to open at that time I believe.

What about Amir, Yasir?

I'd imagine that Pakistani players like Riaz and Yasir Shah will be playing for Pakistan during the BBL season (as will their Australian test opponents) so they're pretty pointless signings.

I'm not sure about you but over here a batting average of 14 is considered pretty mediocre

Voges/Marsh bros and Coulter-Nile are not leaving WA/Perth (same owners/same coach).

They're not contracted yet because they're not going to be available during the BBL season anyway because the Australian internationals are at the same time.

Yasir Shah would dominate BBL. Most the batsmen are utterly clueless against quality wrist spin.

He'll have to stick to dominating the tests though

Read that Mitchell Johnson is closing in to sign a deal with Perth Scorchers. I can't understand why Perth Scorchers is going for him considering the fact they already have a number of pacers in Jason Behrendorff, Joel Paris and Andrew Tye plus the spinner Ashton Agar & James Muirhead. There was already a controversy surrounding Scorchers that because of the presence of Brad Hogg, they couldn't give chances to the other spinners & eventually Hogg quit.

I do want Johnson in BBL, but for either Brisbane Heat or Melbourne Renegades whose bowling struggled.

Because he lives here.

Hogg eh. Wouldn't really call it a controversy.

Not really what Renegades are paying him.

Just becuase Johnson lives in Perth doesn't make it necessary for the Perth Scorchers to pick him. Perth Scorchers already have an array of pacers. Johnson could have added more value to franchise who needs more of his service than the Perth Scorchers.

Don't think Fizz or any other BD player will be picked because we have BPL followed by NZ tour

Yeah but people want to see Johnson again and if both Behrendorff and Paris are fit (highly dubious) we'll end up missing at least one to Australia.

Stuff the other franchises. Thunder already stole Hussey. Johnno's one of ours.

The Ban-NZ series clashes with BBL. So, this definitely rules out the Fizz.

BPL, as far as I know it is slated to be staged on Nov 2016, will it go ahead ?

That's right & a very good point, both Behrendorff and Paris will be called up for Australian duty.

Any potential contract for Jesse Ryder ? He is someone I want to see in BBL. He was previously contracted by Melbourne Renegades but he pulled out some seasons ago. He will be a hit in the crowd.

Plus where has the doc Daniel Harris disappeared ? Played for Northern Districts in CLT20 2014. He was a decent T20 bat (played in IPL, BPL), last played in BBL for the Melbourne Renegades in Jan 2014. Didn't see him for the last 2 seasons of BBL. Has he retired ?

I hope the Adelaide Strikers are signing Ben Laughlin. I rate him highly, excellent death bowler. Strikers have got the tall exciting Billy Stanlake & Kane Richardson.

Should be likely. Big question mark on whether English players will participate. SL, Pak, Zim, Afghan, WI who make bulk of the foreign quota will probably be coming. Also, this depends on the England tour this year, if this tour goes ahead then BPL is certain.

Government in BD has been very vigilante off late regarding terrorism. BCB too has been desperate. By the looks of it, England probably will tour Bangladesh. However, any further terrorist attack might push back the series. I just hope that this insanity ends world wide.

Harris?

Think he's just disappeared due to being no good but may have retired.

I wouldn't know about Jesse Ryder. I don't pay much attention to Big Bash in July

I keep the attention as most of the signings are done in the off season.

Good news by the way, Mitchell Johnson has been locked in by the Perth Scorchers. Young upcoming pacers like Jason Behrendorff and Joel Paris will learn a lot under his guidance.

Sharjeel Khan would wreck havoc on the Australian pitches. If the Big Bash teams' owners have any sense of cricket, they should buy him immediately.

Good suggestion.

BBL runs from Dec 20-Jan 28.

Pak is slated to play ODI vs AUS in Jan 13.

So, if Sharjeel Khan is signed, he will be available till Jan 13.

I think making any signing that won't be available for the finals is not a great investment.

New Signings:

Mitchell Johnson (Perth Scorchers)
Jason Sangha (Sydney Thunder)
David Hussey (Melbourne Stars); as captain
Daniel Worall (Melbourne Stars)

Apparently, Michael Clarke has opted out of playing BBL. Instead he will do commentary. This may very well rule out any return of him to top flight cricket. Shame, will miss his classical batting, soothing to the eyes.

Hope Salman Butt gets signed, has an outside chance, but once in he can be a solid anchor for any team, and it will make him match ready for the Australian tour and a front runner test opener. Junaids

Sharjeel wil be free from october 10 to jan 10(3 months)I guess as we play only tests these days..

If he can play in BBL, then conditions won't be alien for him for LOI matches against Aus

Pakistani cricketers are a bit of an unknown commodity in australia at the moment (other than the usual tired faces). Add to that we haven't really done well in limited overs.
Perhaps next year, if we have a decent tour of Australia especially the limited overs team.

Sharjeel played well in England, They watched him. Got selected in t20 blast.

Hopefully he plays well in Aus, and gets selected next season, if not this

The BBL will underway before the ODI series. If he performs he could be signed by a team for the 2017-2018 season.

Players who are available for the whole season are more likely to get contracts
