Perth Scorchers (133/4) seal a 6-wicket win over Sydney Sixers (132) to clinch the 2025/26 Big Bash League title [Update@ Post420]

Melbourne Stars opener Sam Harper has been named the KFC BBL|15 Player of the Tournament, capping off a dominant season in which the wicketkeeper delivered career best performances and emerged as one of the competition’s most damaging top-order players.

Harper enjoyed an extraordinary home and away season, scoring 371 runs at an average of 61.83 and strike rate of 155.23, including an unbeaten century against the Sydney Sixers on Boxing Day.

His 110* came off just 60 deliveries and saw him score 75 per cent of his team’s runs in the successful chase against a quality attack.

The wicketkeeper-batter’s hot form continued with 84 not out from 51 balls to lead the Stars to victory in the second Melbourne Derby of the season.

Harper’s consistency at the top of the order, combined with his trademark energy behind the stumps, played a pivotal role in the Stars’ qualifying for finals.

Player of the Tournament is adjudicated by the on-field umpires, both awarding 3-2-1 votes from each match.

The KFC BBL|15 Team of the Tournament will be announced tomorrow.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“Sam has enjoyed an outstanding season and has delivered highly entertaining and match-winning performances for the Melbourne Stars.

“Sam is one of the BBL’s most popular players and has wide-earned respect across the League for his dedication and humility across the past ten seasons. We’re absolutely thrilled to see him named Player of the Tournament in BBL|15.

“The even spread of voting demonstrates the quality of players in our competition and just how well balanced our teams are, which leads to great cricket every night over summer.”

@Nikhil_cric What do you think of Mahli Beardman? I was impressed by him in the U-19 World Cup but surely he has to one of the shortest fast-bowlers to come out of Australia in recent times. But besides his lack of height he seems to have alot of the ingredients you need to make a good fast-bowler. He's got pace and hits the deck hard. I like the action and some of angles he creates could make him skiddy on certain pitches. He also seems to have the trademark Aussie attitude and aggression too, which is always a plus.

Just the way he set up Smith the other night shows that he has the aptitude for fast-bowling.

I heard that Dennis Lillee played a big role in his coaching and is something of a mentor to him, which alone tells you that he probably understands alot of stuff that takes fast-bowlers years to understand.

The team is led by Sydney Thunder skipper David Warner, the BKT Golden Bat winner, who blasted two centuries and finished with 433 runs for the season.

BBL|15 Player of the Tournament Sam Harper joins Warner in a batting order that includes each of the home and away season’s top five run scorers.

The competition’s leading wicket taker Haris Rauf (20 wickets) spearheads an attack featuring five of the season’s top six wicket takers.

Stars captain Marcus Stoinis earns selection for a record-equalling fifth time, while Aaron Hardie is in the team for the third time in four seasons.

Alongside Rauf, Finn Allen and Tom Curran are the international players to be recognised with selection.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The BBL|15 Team of the Tournament features the perfect mix of established and emerging stars who have performed exceptionally during this campaign.

“It is brilliant to see the likes of Sam Harper and Matt Renshaw earn selection for the first time, alongside a host of other experienced players. Their performances over many years reflect all players’ dedication to the BBL.

“It’s no surprise to see the likes of David Warner and Marcus Stoinis in the side again. They are two of Australia’s finest white-ball players and their ability to perform on the big stage consistently is testament to the way they approach the game.

“Similarly, BBL provides for world class players including Finn Allen and Haris Rauf to showcase their talent. We know fans love watching them, and all members of this team, every night over the summer holidays.

“We congratulate the entire Team of the Tournament on their selection and thank our head coaches for their work in selecting this side.”

Isn't he around 6'0" ?

I don't remember him much from that U-19 World Cup. I thought Vidler was the better prospect back then and he was bowling genuine heat.

They clearly like him and that's why they are selecting him for T20 squads .

Having said that, he will have to tighten up his alignment at the crease. Certain deliveries, his back foot was going beyond the horizontal - towards midwicket and front foot towards slips .

But he's very young and Tim MacDonald, the Western Australian bowling coach, and the setup at WA is very knowledgeable and I'm sure they are monitoring his run up speed, stride pattern etc.

Hope he plays against PAK because I haven't seen a full spell by him, yet. Just bits and pieces

Babar Azam not playing any further bbl as per fox

Probably thought he should come back before he gets dropped

I checked and it seems you're right. I guess he just has a really slight frame because I legit thought that he was 5'9.

That's a good point. His action seems inspired by Steyn somewhat. Hopefully it doesn't put too much load on his shoulder too. But he has something. Interested to see how he does in the Pakistan series, if he plays.

So I guess the Sixers will be without any international players considering Sam Curran is on national duty too

Kicking out of zimbo has improved sydney's chances of winning the tournament. He was bringing down the quality of sydney's batting.

Hopefully he is never picked up again in BBL. He has embarrassed whole Pakistan with his pathetic batting.

Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers, Final

Sydney set a target of just 133.

Perth is heading towards victory easy here.. 89/2 atm

It wasn't a great final (very one-sided) but this year's BBL has been great in terms of quality.

Enjoyed the BBL this year. :inti
