PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Thursday that he is self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.

Taking to Twitter, Bilawal said that he was currently experiencing mild symptoms. "I'll continue working from home and will be addressing PPP foundation day via video link. Wear a mask everyone, see you on the other side."

PPP Senator Rehman Malik wished the party chairman a speedy recovery.

KP Health Minister Taimur Jhagra also gave the PPP chairman his best wishes, adding: " To everyone sitting on stage at the PDM jalsa, if in Pakhtunkhwa please call on the 1700 helpline and get yourself tested through our rapid response teams".

"[The govt of KP] cares about everyone's health; all tests are free of charge. Wear a mask!"

The development comes days after the 11-party opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement, pushed ahead with the decision to stage a rally in Peshawar despite warnings from the provincial government and the Centre about a second Covid-19 wave.

Coronavirus cases and deaths have risen in the country during the past few weeks, with Pakistan reporting more than 3,000 daily cases for the first time since July on Wednesday.

However, Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated that the government will not shut down factories and businesses despite a spike in coronavirus infections and deaths.

“We don’t want to lead people to death due to hunger, while saving them from coronavirus,” the premier said while speaking to the media during his day-long visit to Lahore on Wednesday

KARACHI: PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will not be attending sister Bakhtawar's engagement on November 27, Geo News reported on Thursday.

Bilawal, who tested positive for the coronavirus earlier today, is currently under self-isolation.

Although the party has not made a formal announcement, sources said Bilawal will skip the engagement party. While his father, former president Asif Ali Zardari, will make a brief appearance at the function.

Zardari is currently receiving medical treatment for his ailments at a private hospital.

In a tweet, Bilawal said he is experiencing mild symptoms. "I will continue working from home and will be addressing the PPP foundation day via video link," he said. "Wear a mask everyone, see you on the other side."

The Bilawal House has requested all guests to undergo a coronavirus PCT test 24 hours prior to attending the event. No guest will be allowed to enter the premises without a negative COVID-19 test.

Bilawal and the staff at Bilawal House took the coronavirus test on Wednesday after his political secretary tested positive for the virus. The testing was done under Zardari's directives.

Speaking to host Sohail Warraich during the show Ek Din Geo Kay Sath, the PPP leader talked about his personal life as people have been curious about his plans, especially after his sister Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari's recent engagement to the son of a UAE-based businessman Mohammad Chaudhry.

He would increase the scope of the Income Support? Didn't they do that to pay their own workers and 800,000 were caught stealing it? And talking about democracy, who the hell does this loser think he is, he was selected by mother if his crooked Father is to be believed and rejected by the people of PK. This loser makes my blood boil.

Hope he stays in isolation, nobody's missing him. His father Asif Zardari stole billions from Pakistan and was a murderer (killed his mother's brother Murtaza Bhutto). His grandfather Zulfiqar broke up Pakistan by not letting Awami League the party who won the elections in 1970 govern the country and was subsequently hanged by Gen. Zia for murder. His mother Benazir was killed by an unknown assailant (his father had the biggest motive and benefited the most from her death). His uncle Shahnawaz was a druggie and was apparently poisoned by his wife Rehana. A family history not to be proud of. Name one good thing that a Bhutto / Zardari has done for Pakistan. The cumulative damage done by this 'dynasty' to the country and to the lives of ordinary Pakistanis will take generations to recover from.
