Mrs Robert and I just discovered this marvellously inventive animated show as it ends its run. It is produced by Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, who also co-stars. It's really thought-provoking in its portrayal of depression and addiction. When it isn't LOL funny.

We are into season five now (their comment on the MeToo movement) so there are about 25 episodes to go. We watch about three a night, but some are so thoughtful that we have to stop and talk about the issues raised.

Any fans?

I watched one episode. Found it was too fast paced and jumps around the story A LOT. didn't watch later episodes so don't have a clear idea.

Haven't watch it before.

Just watched one clip on YouTube.

It reminds me of Family Guy or Simpsons.

One of my all time favourite animated shows, however the latter seasons have been becoming darker and darker. Started watching the final season after contemplating it for quite some time because the show actually affects me for some reason and I couldn't get into the right mood/atmosphere.

However I have completed 5 episodes and they have found a good balance between contemplation, darkness and humor like in the earlier seasons and it has been a worthy finale so far.

I watched a few seasons of it before coming to Germany. Really great animated TV series.

However, i enjoyed watching ARCHER a lot more, was addicted to it. Give it a shot if you have time. It is available on Netflix.

Aray bhai, can you go one post without mentioning Germany? :angelo

I do not have time for watching movies right now as I am a full-time student and I watched them while I was in Pakistan - so I did not know how many seasons are there now and what is the quality of the show at the moment. With these TV shows, they never have an ending in the meantime your kids end up going colleges from kindergarden.

one of my faovurite shows of all time, the way the show deals with mental health and the hidden anxieties of modern society is superb. at no time does it feel preachy, or like its telling you what to think, all the characters are flawed but relatable.

i cant think of many shows that have at times resonated so heavily with me. some people find it a tad too nihilistic, which i can understand at times. also Robert have to say your in for a treat, the last few episodes of the final season are a crazy rollercoaster.

Cool. We are into the final season.

The stories about Honey Sugarman and Beatrice are just jaw-droppingly good. The depiction of Beatrice’s dementia is so clever and touching.

And what a marvellous episode where BoJack spirals into painkiller addiction and ends up choking Gina.

ElRaja the more I think on this story the more thought-provoking it becomes. Honey’s husband Joseph was unable to cope with her grief at the loss of Crackerjack. She was then unable to nurture poor BoJack, who got a rotten example from his terrible father Butterscotch, and then passed awful advice to poor Sarah Lynn bringing about her own addiction issues and untimely death.

And all this in a funny animal cartoon.

yep, which is why i think if it wasn't an anthropomorphised cartoon depiction the show would be far more difficult to pull off.

from the story point of view tho i think the supporting cast is really important, look at mr peanutbutter, diane, todd chavez, and pc, none of their back stories are explained in as much depth as bojacks but its obvious they are all significantly hurt people, but they are no where near as destructive as bojack.

i found the episode where pc is imagining her daughter to be one of the most moving episodes in the series, and the way they dealt with her adoptive single mother story line was brilliant. she had every right to spiral into self destruction like bojack, but constantly fought not too.

i love how nearly all the cast members mature as the show kicks on, its a good reminder that no matter how bad things are, you are fundamentally responsible for your own happiness.

just writing that out makes me realise how much ill miss the show.

The cat always lands on her feet. PC is extremely focused and that keeps her on track for what she wants.

Todd kind of wanders in and out as comic relief, but also a catalyst to move the plot forward.

Diane may be my favourite character - she is so like Bojack in that both are introspective and self-hating but she seems to cope better, perhaps because she seeks out positive people such as Mr Peanutbutter and Guy.

Mr Peanutbutter just wants to please everyone and be happy all the time, and that runs him into trouble as pleasing two women at once doesn't work.

It was recommended to me by so many people but didn't really get a chance to binge, seeing the rave reviews here I think I gotta give it a watch soon.

Give it a few episodes. It starts off a funny animal cartoon and slowly gets darker.

I stumble upon on it a when the first season just finished and I thought why not try it cause I was bored and had nothing else to watch and genuinely fell in love with it. Never missed a season and have watched all of it. Kind of upset about the end though.

all building to one of the most powerful one minute bit in tele imo

Not clicking!!!!!!

As of 6.13, BoJack appears to have lost everything - career, house, Diane and even his loyal Princess Carolyn.

But I bet there is somewhere further left to fall....

Finished it ElRaja.

Loved the last episode and how BJ spend some time with each of the other four principles, with his dance with PC the best part. The final wordless scene, where Diane and BJ don’t lock eyes, show that they no longer need each other and can move forward in hope and peace.

i think bojack still needs all of em, but he cant control the fact that they will pbly all walk out of his life given his situation, and in some way not having that control makes it easier for him to let them go.

fwiw i loved todds interpretation of the hokey pokey, and the significance, or lack of, of interpretation, to art. i don't even understand why this show gets such a strong emotional reaction out of me.

Because we are all Bojack, PC, Todd, MP and Diane.

I live in hope that Bojack and PC find each other romantically in future.
