With the hype surrounding Ranbir Kapoor's return to the big screen after a four-year hiatus, fans were expecting a magnanimous response to his latest offering, Shamshera. The Karan Malhotra directorial starred Ranbir in a double role, Shamshera and Balli, with Vaani Kapoor as his love interest and Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist.

However, seems like even two Ranbirs couldn't save the train wreck that this period drama. According to the Indian media, the cinema halls rarely saw an audience coming in to see the Tamasha star's film. As per Free Press Journal, Shamshera 'seems to have failed to impress the audience.'

The report added, "Even after weeks of rigorous promotions, the film could not live up to its hype and witnessed a sublime start of INR100 million." However, according to a report in Zoom, several shows of the film were cancelled due to the absence of audiences at the theatres.

Popular, Indian trade analyst Komal Nahta too tweeted, "Another big film but the same story continues! Shows of Shamshera in the morning and noon, afternoon at some cinemas cancelled due to absence of an audience."

The film is said to be made on a massive budget of INR1.5 billion. Shamshera embarked on its journey with an opening of INR100.25 million on opening day. "The opening is way lower than what the industry expected out of it. While the film was expected to take off during the weekend, looks like the collection remained low despite good word of mouth. In two days, Ranbir's film managed to earn a mere INR200 million. According to early estimates, the film's Sunday earnings have also not been great," reported India Today.

'A Hinduphobic disaster'

Fans took to Twitter and shared their thoughts about Shamshera. Some called out 'Hinduphobia' in the film. "Shamshera, a movie where the villain Sanjay Dutt wears a Tripund Tilak and the hero, Ranbir Kapoor, prides himself on being "free of dharma." Same old Hinduphobia. Same old nepotism. Same old Bollywood," a user penned.

One more user added, "Another Friday, another Bollywood film opens to empty halls and cancelled shows. YRF’s Shamshera has got a very poor opening at India BO; hardly 10-12% occupancy. PR obviously will push fake figures and stories, but the public’s message to Bollywood is loud and clear."

Another tweep shared, "Shamshera is underperforming across the country. If you keep hurting Hindus, you'll have to face this Economic Boycott."

One more shared, "YRF’s Shamshera is now one of the biggest BO disasters, along with all major Bollywood releases post-2020. With 40-50% of shows cancelled, it’s brutally dumped by the audience on its first Monday itself. Tight slap on the ugly faces of Bollywood coke-egos!"

Another added, "It looks like Prabhas and SS Rajamouli melted the brains of Bollywood producers. So many have tried and failed badly to deliver an action film in a historical setting since Baahubali broke records. Add Shamshera to that long list of historical disasters."

A user quipped, "Shamshera movie [was] so bad we literally left before intermission and ate the popcorn outside."

One user defended the film and shared, "Yes, Shamshera isn't a great film but it isn't 'unbearable' as the critics have written. If this was a South Indian film, these same critics would have lauded it and called it a 'massy entertainer'."

Another user shared, "Shamshera is not a great movie but does not deserve this treatment from the audience. It was an attempt from Bollywood to make something good. They missed the mark by a low margin. But makers deserve some praise."

About Shamshera

Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film sets in the backdrop of the 1800s in the fictitious city of Kaza and tells the tale of a dacoit turned tribe leader. Shamshera sees Ranbir in his first-ever double role where he's playing a father-son duo, Shamshera and Balli.

The impressive trailer saw a very menacing-looking Sanjay Dutt as the officer Shudh Singh, who has been brought in to keep a rein on Balli. Vaani Kapoor plays an exotic dancer, who advises Balli to put a stop to his worrying antics. Shamshera was released in the Indian cinemas last week.

"I can be naked in front of a thousand people… It's just that they get uncomfortable," Bollywood star Ranveer Singh told the Paper magazine recently.

That is exactly what happened when Singh recently posed nude for a photo spread in the same magazine. Social media exploded with both appreciation and indignation - but mostly the latter. Memes and jokes making fun of the pictures abounded; and many accused the actor of denigrating men. If this was not enough, a police complaint was lodged against him for "hurting the sentiments of women".

Singh is not your traditional male star. He's endlessly energetic, flamboyant and embraces a frothy fashion style - velvet pants, sequin turtlenecks, jewellery - that Vogue magazine calls a "positive nod to the non-binary fluidity that fashion today is embracing".

In other words, says Paper, Singh has "challenged practically every stereotype of masculinity in a still-traditionalist Indian society".

"He has an ideal kind of male body. But he dresses on the border of androgyny. He is not rigid and openly talks about sex. He doesn't fit in the notion of masculinity in India. That is causing a lot of anxiety, and also making a lot of men uncomfortable," says Rahul Sen, who's doing his doctoral dissertation on literature and sexuality at Tufts University.

The differing reactions to Singh are illustrative of what some call India's "wild moral confusion", where people harbour a strange mix of conservative and liberal attitudes. The most graphic examples of erotic temple art can be found in many small-town shrines. One of the world's oldest textbooks of erotic love, Kama Sutra, is from India. Model and dancer Protima Bedi streaked on a Mumbai beach in 1974 for a film magazine cover. Nudity is not uncommon: thousands of ash-smeared Hindu holy men belonging to a cult turn up naked at religious festivals like the Kumbh Mela.

Instagram and TikTok are full of Indian men in "tiny posing trunks showcasing their bodies in erotically suggestive ways," says Michiel Baas, author of the book, Muscular India. "Some of them have tens of thousands to even more than a million followers. Some of their pictures may elicit lewd reactions but in general people respond to them with emoticons expressing wows, power and being impressed," he says. Also, most Bollywood stars have taken off their shirts for action scenes.

Is Kama Sutra a feminist book of erotic love?

But, Baas says, when Indian men like Singh deviate from more standard and accepted ways of showcasing their bodies - he finds the star's pictures naked in a "vulnerable kind of way" with a hint of a 1970s aesthetic - it "often results in the kind of mocking that underscores how unusual it is for men to show their softer, perhaps more feminine side".

Some find the controversy futile. "I don't get this debate. Nangapan (nudity in Hindi) is not new to India. In Ranveer Singh's case: [it's] his body, his choice," says Shobhaa De, one of India's most popular writers.

Yet leading artists like MF Husain and Akbar Padamsee were attacked for paintings which depicted a naked deity and a man's hand on a woman's breast. Film sets and plays have been trashed for depicting nudity.

In fact, Singh is not even the first actor to pose in the buff. In 1995, Milind Soman and Madhu Sapre posed in the nude with a python wrapped around them for a shoe advert. A case of obscenity against the models crawled in the courts for 14 years. By the time the two were acquitted, "Sapre had left India, the shoe brand had folded up, and who knows what happened to the python", says Ambi Parameswaran, a brand strategist.

'Indians don't talk about sex - so I help them'

A Mumbai-based advertising standards watchdog continues to receive public complaints about obscene adverts. Last November it received two: one about women in "revealing undergarments" and the other was an "ugly ad... of two girls removing their T-shirts to show each other their lingerie". The watchdog swiftly dismissed both the complaints.

"There's more freedom and more confusion. Then there's the moral brigade who are queasy and curious at the same time. A wild moral confusion links us all," says Brinda Bose, author of The Audacity of Pleasure: Sexualities, Literature and Cinema in Contemporary India.

Two years ago, Chennai-based fashion photographer G Venket Ram found himself at the receiving end of this confusion. He shot a young woman tattoo artist in the nude as part of the body positivity movement, which calls for the acceptance of all shapes and sizes.

Venket Ram received a largely positive social media response to his picture of a young woman in the nude
He says he "gathered courage" and posted the picture on Instagram, where he has over 90,000 followers.

"Most people loved it. Others were not so happy. They said, we had respect for you, how did you do this?" says Ram.

Then something strange happened. He lost up to 2,500 followers and gained some 8,000 - all in less than a day.

"It was like a tsunami. Hordes of people followed and unfollowed me at the same time. More ended up following. Teenagers were raving about the shoot. It was a puzzling experience."

This year Ram shot a series called Bare with two models , and posted some of the images on Instagram. It was well-received and there was no trolling, he says. More female and male models are open to posing nude now as long as the pictures are aesthetically done, he says. Now he is planning to shoot men in the buff. "Social media allows you to express more freely than traditional media and advertising," he says.

Vinod Mehta, who edited the now-defunct Debonair magazine - India's answer to Playboy - once recalled a story which underlined India's attitudes towards nudity and sexuality.

During the Emergency, when press censorship was imposed, Mehta was summoned by a federal minister in Delhi asking to see the magazine's centre spread, which usually featured semi-naked women. Mehta showed him half a dozen pictures from which he planned to choose one.

"[The minister's] eye fell on one which was 90% nude. He kept it aside. I inquired if we should perhaps skip the centre spread. He was horrified. 'No', he said, just make it decent," Mehta recounted in his memoirs.

Then the minister kept the centre spread [picture] "without permission".

Is the downfall of Bollywood here? Lots of movies getting flopped.

You cant live on nepotism in this post covid world.

It has to reinvent itself with actors that can read Hindi.

Bollywood is stuck in a place where it can’t make dramatic movies like South because it will be ridiculed and at same time can’t go full western like Gehraiyaan.

Tough situation right now for them.

Fans of one of the biggest Bollywood films have criticised the decision to remake it as a musical where a main character is reimagined as a white man.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, known as DDLJ, is being adapted for Broadway as Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical.

But the renaming of the character Raj as a white man named Rog has led to accusations of "whitewashing".

The role - originally being played by Shah Rukh Khan in the 1995 film - will be played on stage by Austin Colby.

"Whitewashing" is the practice of casting white actors in non-white roles.

And followers of the popular original film say they are shocked that it is taking place in 2022.

Famous Indian chef Vikas Khanna tweeted to his 2.2 million followers that after initial excitement at a stage adaptation, he feels it's "terrible".

And 20-year-old fan Paridhi Puri said: "It's just truly horrible from every aspect, whitewashing the role of Raj."

Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan have made a name for being one of the most iconic pairs in the Hindi film industry
For Paridhi, the "diaspora angle" of the film is one of the reasons why it's so valued and iconic.

Both characters are non-resident Indians (NRIs), with "the sense of immigration and how it feels to live in a foreign land" being strong in the film.

"The push and pull of what a lot of NRIs relate to, having one foot in India and abroad. It must have been so fresh and eye-opening for that time," Paridhi tells Radio 1 Newsbeat.

She says, as with any remake, there's a chance to make it "a better story" and address bits which may not have aged well over time.

But she says South Asian-American actors would want "to be considered and see their culture in a place which historically doesn't reflect" it, so the casting should show that for a main role.

Paridhi feels DDLJ goes beyond being "a simple movie", as it "has bridged generation, from my grandparents, parents to me, and I'm sure the next gen will be too".

Mumbai: Businessman Raj Kundra has filed an application before a magistrate's court here seeking that he be discharged from a case related to alleged creation and distribution of porn films through apps.

Raj Kundra, married to Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, was arrested in the case in July 2021.

He is now out on bail.

His lawyer Prasant Patil filed the discharge application on July 20. It details became available on Wednesday.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Monday recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh in a case registered against him for posting nude photographs of himself on social media, an official said.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Ranveer Singh at Chembur police station in Mumbai last month on the basis of a complaint filed by an office-bearer of a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The police subsequently served him a notice to join the probe into the case.

The actor appeared before the investigating officer around 7 am on Monday and his statement was recorded, the official said.

Ranveer Singh left the police station around 9.30 am, the official said adding that the actor will be called again, if required.

The complainant had claimed the actor "hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty through his photographs." Based on the complaint, the police had registered the FIR against Singh under various Indian Penal Code Sections like 292 (sale of obscene books, etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young people), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) and provisions of the Information Technology Act, an official earlier said.

Ranveer Singh, a recipient of several awards, is known for his roles in films like "Bajirao Mastani", "Padmaavat" and "Gully Boy".

The above trailer doesn't say anything against Pakistan or Muslim's. Hindu's have a right to celebrate their faith like any other community. That Muslim's want to take over the world is a myth created by Muslim haters like they have done this "love jihad" thing. As for commercial cinema I enjoyed "Mr Bhatti on chutti", Mom, Kaabil, 83, Super Nani and English Vinglish. I avoid the over sexualized and exaggerated action films that they produce now. Talking of films our own "Legend of Maula Jatt is releasing soon.

Pornography Case: Businessman Raj Kundra Granted Pre-Arrest Bail By Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to businessman Raj Kundra and others, including actors Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey, in connection with an FIR or police case against them for allegedly distributing pornographic videos.

A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagarathna also directed Raj Kundra and the other accused to cooperate in the investigation.

"Having heard the counsel for the parties, we are of the view that the petitioners may be granted anticipatory bail," the bench said.

Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for one of the petitioners, submitted that a chargesheet has already been filed in the case and the accused are cooperating with the police in the investigation.

The top court had earlier granted interim protection from arrest to Raj Kundra in the case.

Raj Kundra had been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing/ transmitting sexually explicit videos.

The FIR named Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey as co-accused.

Raj Kundra's lawyers claimed that he was in no way connected to content creation, publication or transmission of alleged illegal videos even as the actors, who were named as co-accused, had given full consent to shoot the videos.

Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi banned from Indian stock market

A Bollywood actor and a YouTube influencer are among dozens who have been banned from participating in India's share market.

The market regulator said it made the decision after investigating allegations of price manipulation.

It said videos on four YouTube channels were used to artificially inflate values of certain shares.

Actor Arshad Warsi, implicated in the case with his wife, denied the allegations.

In its investigation, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said it found that YouTube channels The Advisor and Moneywise - owned by influencer Manish Mishra - used celebrities to recommend stocks of two companies to retail investors.

Similar videos were uploaded on the channels Midcap calls and Profit Yatra.

The videos shared false and misleading information about Sharpline Broadcast and Sadhna Broadcast, encouraging investors to buy their shares, the regulator said.

Amitabh Bachchan Injured On Set In Hyderabad: "Movement And Breathing Painful"
Project K co-stars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone

Actor Amitabh Bachchan suffered a muscle tear to his right rib cage while shooting Project K in Hyderabad. The 80-year-old star revealed in a blog post that his rib cartilage "popped" on set while he filmed an action shot, injuring him. He received medical care in Hyderabad and is now recovering at Jalsa, his home in Mumbai. He is "mobile a bit for essential activities" but otherwise resting, Amitabh Bachchan revealed. "Yes, painful," he wrote in his blog on Tumbler, "On movement and breathing, will take some weeks they say before some normalisation will occur." He ended the post, shared on Sunday, with a plea to fans not to gather at Jalsa as usual - a Sunday meet and greet with fans outside his home has been Big B's Sunday ritual for decades.

In his post, Amitabh Bachchan wrote: "In Hyderabad at the shoot for Project K, during an action shot, I have got injured - rib cartilage popped broke and muscle tear to the right rib cage, canceled shoot, did Doctor consult and scan by CT at the AIG Hospital in Hyderabad and flown back home. Strapping has been done and rest been advocated. Yes painful. On movement and breathing, will take some weeks they say before some normalisation will occur. Some medication is on also for pain."

"So all work that was to be done has been suspended and canceled dropped postponed for the moment until healing occurs," Amitabh Bachchan continued, "I rest at Jalsa and am mobile a bit for all the essential activities, but yes in rest and generally lying around."

Bollywood is no longer what it used to be.

They may churn out a couple of good movies every year, but the rest will remain below average.

For me, the last generation of true superstars who gave us iconic films were the actors who debuted in late 80s and early 90s.

Shah Rukh Khan with his early negative roles and his domination of the romantic genre, Aamir Khan who still manages to come out with something unique, Salman Khan in his young days and before the Dabangg era, Akshay Kumar with his action movies and comedy classics of the 2000s, Sanjay Dutt during his swaggish long hair era in the 90s, Sunny Deol's action flicks in the 90s, etc...

This was the Bollywood I actually loved. The current one is nothing but a circus filled with a talentless pool of new actors, who will never be able to replace the names I mentionned above.

Nowadays, it's all about remakes, biopics, nudity, fake patriotism, and nepotism. Sadly, as the 90s superstars have gone old, the quality of cinema has gone down in Bollywood.

Yes because actors alone are what made Bollywood great right?
It’s gone down overall from music to lyrics, that’s why its much more noticeable, the actors r only as good as the directors.

Watch SRK in ram Jaane, Amir in Mann, Antak hi Antak and you will see how terrible they were.
It was always the production team which made the difference.

If anything Ayushman has done way better movies in his first 8 years than Amir did.

They all obviously had terrible movies, but also a lot of more classics than the current generation of actors.

I appreciate Ayushman as an actor, but Aamir in his first 8 years in the industry had already given evergreen classics such as QSQT, Raakh, Dil, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Andaz Apna Apna, Rangeela, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Raja Hindustani, etc...

My point was that the 90s generation of actors were much more versatile than today's crop, hence they churned out way more classics than today's actors.
You could see Sanjay Dutt play a gangster's role in Vaastav, and then see him nail an evergreen comedy Munna Bhai.
You could see Akshay Kumar in several action movies in the 90s, and he would follow it up with back to back succesful comedies in the early 2000s.

Apart from maybe Ranbir and to an extent Ayushman, I can't really see the current crop being this much versatile. They basically are doing the same thing over and over, hoping for different results.

Actually except SRK and maybe Govinda,Ajay, they all did the same set of acting which they would in a comedy and then in action, same set of expressions and dialogue delivery.

To give you a comparison Amitabh did comedy in Namak Halal, Chupke Chupke and would follow up with Muqaadar ka Sikander, Deewar,Kabhie Kabhie.
Only he actually had that range and absolutely different set of expressions for comedy and serious.

Irfan Khan unfortunately died early he was the only one with similar talent and pedigree and thats why he was equal to Amitabh in Piku and at times even outshines him.

Srk and Amir did try..Srk was better overall with versatility before he got accustomed to stardom.

Agree on Ranbir among recent ones.

The actors are same as 1990s honestly, not as good as 70s where Amitabh, Rajesh, Vinod, Sanjeev,Amjad, Sinha, Feroz , Dharmendra,Shashi were present.

But the production has gone down like crazy, I can’t even bear a single song anymore, they all sound the same to me,1990s was able to hide this due to creativity in the backend.
The dialogues are atrocious, I don’t even know for which audience are they making this, it includes the recent Pathan, absolute disaster that one.

Actor-Director Satish Kaushik Dies At 66
"Such a sudden full stop on a friendship of 45 years!! Life will NEVER be the same without you," Anupam Kher wrote on Twitter.

Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik passed away following a heart attack early Thursday morning, said his close friend and industry colleague Anupam Kher. He was 66.
According to Kher, Kaushik was at a friend's home in Delhi when he complained of uneasiness.

"He felt uneasy and he told driver to take him to the hospital and on the way he suffered a heart attack around 1 am," Kher told PTI.

In a tweet earlier, Kher said he was shocked to hear about Kaushik's sudden death.

"I know that death is the ultimate truth but never in my dreams I thought that I would have to write that about my best friend Satish Kaushik. A sudden full stop to 45 years of friendship. Life will never be the same without you Satish! Om Shanti," Kher tweeted.

Satish was not a great director but an absolute delight as a comedian.

My favs are Mr.India and Mr and Mrs. Khiladi.
His acting range was always wasted , it was visible when he did Scam 1992 and played a dalal street bear, a very serious role.

His show Philips top ten was the first tv show i saw as a kid and used to find him and Pankaj hilarious.

Jiah Khan has committed suicide ..she has been sufferring from chronic depression!!

BGgCOagCMAAKMDT.jpg

She acted in Aamir Khan's Ghajini and RGV's Nishabd !!

Rest in Peace!! So sad, she is only 25!!

he family of British Bollywood actress and former Knightsbridge schoolgirl Jiah Khan, whose mysterious death was the subject of a BBC documentary, have accused the courts of “sweeping her death under the carpet”.

Her boyfriend, Indian actor Sooraj Pancholi, was acquitted of abetting the 25-year-old’s suicide late last month in a case that has gripped Bollywood since she was found dead in a flat she shared with her mother in an exclusive part of Mumbai 10 years ago.

The death of Ms Khan, who at one point was hailed the brightest talent of her generation, was declared a suicide by the police, however her family have long maintained that she was murdered.

Ms Khan’s entry into the decadent world of Bollywood sounds like the plot of one of the industry’s typical romantic melodramas. The privately educated, Knightbridge schoolgirl was on holiday in India when she became an overnight Bollywood sensation following her performance as a sexually uninhibited teenager in the film, Nishabd, a remake of American Beauty.

While she ticked every PR box as far as Bollywood debuts go, her death appeared at first glance to confirm every cliché about troubled starlets.

A different narrative soon began to emerge when on the morning of her funeral, a six-page letter was discovered in which Ms Khan made harrowing claims about her relationship with Mr Pancholi, saying it was marred by violence, infidelity and a traumatic abortion.

Mr Pancholi admitted to having an argumentative relationship with Ms Khan, but denied claims he was violent.

Details of the abortion were reported by The Observer and in the BBC documentary. Police questioned the doctor who performed the procedure at the time.

Mr Pancholi, the son of Bollywood film star Aditya Pancholi, had been dating Ms Khan for nine months when she died. He was arrested for abetting her suicide, a charge which carries a sentence of up to ten years in prison, and the story captured international attention, becoming the subject of the documentary series Death in Bollywood. The charge sheet cited Ms Khan’s letter and her claims about their relationship, as well as witness statements alleging she had told friends she was assaulted by him.

The actor was sensationally freed of all charges on 28 April, ten years after Ms Khan’s shocking death, with the court citing a lack of evidence and describing her as “suicidal in nature”.

In a statement, the special Central Bureau of Investigation court, where the case was heard, said: “The available evidence reflects that the deceased was a victim of her sentiments. She could not overcome the emotions. The deceased could have always walked out of the relationship. However, she could not overcome her sentiments and her love for the accused, for which the accused cannot be held responsible.”

Her family has furiously disputed the court’s claims and maintains that she was murdered. Her mother, Rabbiyah Khan, told i: “This case was on the wrong track from the very beginning. It should have been an investigation of murder.

“The inequality and injustice that we have experienced through court is horrific.”

Rabbiyah accused the police and courts of “sweeping Jiah’s death under the carpet” and failing to investigate unexplained injuries revealed during a post-mortem examination.

“My daughter did not have suicidal tendencies. She was much loved by her family. She had everything to live for and was planning a new life away from the film industry. The police and courts built up a narrative to suit their own purpose,” she said.

“They conveniently followed a pre-determined theory of suicide. It was like reverse engineering to show the desired outcome and get the deal done.”

Indian actor Anil Kapoor wins court battle over AI use of his likeness.

The Indian actor Anil Kapoor has won a significant victory in a New Delhi court over unauthorised AI use of his likeness.

Kapoor, who has appeared in dozens of hit Bollywood films as well as the Oscar-winning English-language drama Slumdog Millionaire, won an interim order against 16 defendants, with the court ordering that they be “restrained from in any manner utilising Anil Kapoor’s name, likeness, image, voice or any other aspect of his persona to create any merchandise, ringtones … either for monetary gain or otherwise.”

Kapoor told Variety: “I think [the decision] is very progressive and great not only for me but for other actors also … Because of the way AI technology is evolving every day.”

The court order comes at a crucial point in the struggle between the US writers and actors unions and the bodies representing studios. A key point of contention between Sag-Aftra and the studios concerns the use of AI to profit from an actor’s image in perpetuity, without approval or residuals.

Kapoor expressed his solidarity with striking actors in the US and hoped they would welcome his victory as “great positive news”

“I am always, completely with them in every which way, and I feel their rights should be protected, because everybody, big, small, popular, not popular – every actor has the right to protect themselves,” Kapoor said.

The actor took his case to India’s high court in response to the large number of distorted videos, gifs and emojis which bear his likeness. He was also concerned by the use of his catchphrase, “jhakaas,” first used in 1985 film Yudh, which roughly translates as “awesome”. All are now protected by court order.

“It’s not only for me,” said Kapoor. “Today I’m there to protect myself, but when I’m not there, the family should have the right to protect my [personality] and gain from it in future.”

The ethics of digital recreation of actors who have died were brought into focus by the on-screen resurrection of the late actor Peter Cushing in 2017’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Cushing’s estate approved the work done to bring the actor back to the big screen.

Speaking to the Guardian in March, the actor Michael Douglas said he was considering licensing his name and likeness “so the rights go to my family rather than to the metaverse”.

He continued: “It’s only matter of time before you’ll be able to recreate any dead person at any age with the voice and the mannerisms, so I want to have some control.”

Bollywood actor hopes new film brings 'coming together' of Muslims and Hindus

Leading Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has told Sky News in a UK exclusive that she hopes her new film Buckingham Murders brings a "coming together of communities" between Muslims and Hindus.

The celebrated Indian actress said the murder mystery - set against the backdrop of last year's unrest between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, and at a time when sectarian violence between the groups is on the rise in India - is her attempt at subtly telling audiences to "hope for peace".

"I strongly believe", she told Sky News, that "at the end of the day, we belong to one human race.

"Everyone is under the same sun. We are standing on the same earth - so why should there be any issues?"

"I deeply believe in peace", Kapoor Khan, 43, added.

"When you watch the movie, in a subtle way, we're trying to talk about the fact it's all about being together."

Buckingham Murders, which is set in High Wycombe, is the multi-award-winning actress's first film as a working producer.

It follows the tale of a grieving mother and police detective Jaspreet Bhamra, Kapoor Khan's character, who works on a missing person's case for an Indian teenager - with the main suspect hailing from Pakistani Muslim origins.

Leicester's ethno-religious tensions from last year - which saw violence, riots and marches between the communities - were subtly "woven into" the film for authenticity, Kapoor Khan told Sky News, but were not intended to make a wider political point.

Kapoor Khan herself is of Hindu origin and has an interfaith marriage with fellow Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan who comes from a Muslim background.

It's reported that the couple have received online abuse over the years about their sons' names - Taimur and Jehangir - typically Muslim names.

Taimur is also the name of a 14th-century Turkic conqueror who attacked Delhi in the 14th century, while Jehangir is the imperial name for the fourth Mughal emperor in the 17th century who ordered the killing of a prominent Sikh guru.

Buckingham Murder's director, Hansal Mehta, told Sky News that while his project has multiple themes, at its heart is a "cry for peace and empathy".

Hindu-Muslim tensions, he said, are an "undercurrent that has existed forever".

"The truth is that it exists around us and yet we continue living our lives.

"You live in a country [Britain] where this kind of backdrop exists. So when a conflict situation arises... these prejudices that are deep-rooted… they come up… they come out to the fore".

Mr Mehta added: "This polarisation is a global phenomenon now. We live in very polarised times. It's getting worse.

"Whether it is between Jews and Muslims, whether it's a Muslim and Hindu, the religious divide is getting wider and wider.

"It is becoming a means of manipulating people and staying in power worldwide. That concerns me as a filmmaker.

"I try to show it in whatever way I can through my work.

"I'm trying to connect human emotion to this larger, politically volatile world that we live in.

"A little bit of empathy is all that is needed."

After dating for a couple of years, actors Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani have reportedly decided to get married in February this year. Talking to Hindustan Times, a source said, "Rakul and Jackky are getting married on February 22, in Goa. They are being really hush-hush about it, as they want to keep the affair very intimate." The source further added, "They are really private people and want to keep the wedding also private.” In fact, they are enjoying a break before getting busy with the wedding festivities. "Jackky is currently in Bangkok (Thailand) for his bachelor party. In fact, Rakul is also in Thailand, enjoying the break."

The couple made it Insta official in October 2021. Earlier this year, Rakul Preet Singh received a romantic wish from boyfriend Jackky Bhagnani. Jackky shared a reel featuring the moments he and Rakul have spent together so far. The reel features glimpses of their vacation diaries, dinner dates, red carpet walks as well as on stage performances. Producer Jackky Bhagnani wrote a special note for his girlfriend. It read, "On your special day, I want to express my admiration for the one who always leaves me in awe. With you, every day feels like an incredible journey, and there's never a dull moment. You're more than just my companion; you're my confidant, my partner-in-crime, and the one who fills my life with love and laughter. On your big day, I wish you everything you have ever dreamt of, and more. May all your dreams come true because you only and only deserve the absolute best in life. Happy Birthday to the one who makes every day extraordinary!" Replying to the post, Rakul wrote, "Awwwwww !!! So much you typed !! That makes me feel whatttte a wow !!!thankyouuuuu my" and dropped a heart emoji.

About making her relationship public with Jackky, Rakul told Film Companion, "We're both of the opinion that there is nothing to hide or be sly about a relationship. If you are in one, the best thing is to give each other that respect and acknowledge it. Let's face it. We all know who the couples are, hiding and running. Both of us don't come from that school of thought."

Rakul Preet Singh made her acting debut with the Kannada film Gilli. She made her Bollywood debut in 2013 with Divya Khosla Kumar's Yaariyan. She is known for films like De De Pyaar De, Chhatriwali, Cuttputlli, Thank God, Doctor G and Runway 34.

I don't know any Indian film actors nowadays other then the well established ones. Watched a bit of "Dunki" some days back then switched off. Just totally bored with Bollywood and have been for many years. Don't know why "The legend of Maula Jat" is not available online. Strangely, I find Pak films more interesting these days.

Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha hospitalized days after daughter Sonakshi's marriage

Veteran Bollywood actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after falling ill following his daughter Sonakshi Sinha’s wedding.

Indian media reported that the 77-year-old, known for his iconic roles in Bollywood and his significant political career, was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai and is receiving treatment for a viral fever.

His son, Luv Sinha, told reporters, “We decided to admit him to ensure a swift recovery and to carry out his annual health checks.”

Luv Sinha also dismissed reports suggesting his father had undergone surgery.

“I visit the hospital daily. There has been no surgery; he is simply recovering from a viral fever,” he assured.

Speculation arose when Sonakshi Sinha and her husband Zaheer Iqbal were spotted leaving Kokilaben Hospital on 28 June.

However, it was clarified that they were visiting Shatrughan Sinha, not for any other reason.

Sinha's hospitalisation comes only days after his daughter Sonakshi Sinha's interfaith wedding to Zaheer Iqbal.

On June 23, actors Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony, confirming their love in a beautiful private celebration.

The newlyweds were recently photographed entering hand in hand for a family dinner in Mumbai.

Sinha, who transitioned from a successful film career to politics, has been a prominent figure in both fields for decades. He has served as a Member of Parliament and has been actively involved in various political activities.

Dhoom 4 enters pre-production with Ranbir Kapoor as lead role

Pre-production on the highly anticipated Dhoom 4 has officially begun at Yash Raj Films (YRF), directed by Aditya Chopra.

The Dhoom franchise, which began in 2004 with the release of the first film starring John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan, is renowned for having revolutionized the action genre in Indian cinema. The franchise has undergone a continuous evolution.

Indian media reports that Ranbir Kapoor will play the lead in the upcoming part, entitled "Dhoom Reloaded," which will be a major change for the series.

Ranbir, who has long expressed interest in the project, is set to portray the antagonist. “The discussions with Ranbir have been going on for the longest time. He had always shown interest in being a part of Dhoom 4 on hearing the basic idea and is now finally confirmed to lead the franchise. Adi Chopra feels that RK is the ideal choice to carry forward the Dhoom legacy,” a source close to the development stated.

No members of the original cast will be returning for this revival; instead, two well-known heroes from the younger age will play cop buddy roles. The crew is prepared to proceed into the casting phase now that the primary story has been finalized.

Dhoom 4 is expected to be the largest film in the series and a tentpole feature that satisfies international standards for Indian cinema, according to sources.

Produced by Chopra and Vijay Krishna Acharya, the script aims to deliver an unparalleled cinematic experience.

By the middle of 2025, Yash Raj Films (YRF) intends to select a director, who will work with the group to do a thorough scouting and pre-production phase. Filming on the movie is anticipated to start in late 2025 or early 2026.

As his 25th movie, Dhoom 4 is expected to be a significant moment in Ranbir Kapoor's career.

The actor is keen to add something exceptional to this silver jubilee project.

Maula Jatt banned from releasing.
Good move

No Pakistan related movies to be allowed here.

India puts blockbuster Pakistani film on hold

The release of a blockbuster Pakistani film has been put on hold in India after officials in Delhi refused to give permission for its screening, the BBC has learnt.

A remake of a 1979 Punjabi film, The Legend of Maula Jatt, is the highest ever grossing film in Pakistan.

The movie was set to release in the northern Indian state of Punjab on Wednesday, which would have made it the first Pakistani film to hit Indian screens in more than a decade.

The South Asian neighbours share a frosty relationship and tensions often affect cultural exchanges between them.

On Wednesday, a source close to Zee Studios - the film's distributor in India - confirmed to the BBC that its release had been stalled indefinitely, after the information and broadcasting ministry denied them permission.

It's not immediately clear why the film was put on hold. The BBC has contacted the ministry for comment.

Starring Pakistan's biggest stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, the 2022 film tells the story of a local folk hero who takes on the leader of a rival clan.

The film was initially supposed to release in India in 2022, but its screening was postponed indefinitely - until last month when its maker Bilal Lashari announced it would hit Indian theatres soon.

“Two years in, and still house full on weekends in Pakistan! Now, I can’t wait for our Punjabi audience in India to experience the magic of this labour of love!” he wrote on Instagram.

However, the news sparked protests in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, where the regional Maharashtra Navnirman Sena political party said it would not allow the film's release "under any circumstances". Mumbai, which is located in the state, is home to Bollywood, India's largest film industry.

Following tensions, Zee Studios decided to limit the film’s release to Punjab state, which shares a border and language with Pakistan's Punjab province.

Despite tense relations, Indian and Pakistan have always shared an affinity for each other's art and culture.

Movies and web series made in India and Pakistan travel widely across the border. India’s Bollywood and Punjabi movies are particularly popular in Pakistan, while Pakistani series enjoy a large viewership in India.

Performers in both the countries also have a history of cross-border collaborations, working together on film and music projects.

But such collaborations came to a halt when Bollywood dropped Pakistani actors in 2016 and Pakistan banned Indian movies in 2019, over military tensions between the countries.

A few Punjabi movies from India have been screened in Pakistan in recent months.

In 2023, India's Supreme Court dismissed a petition that sought a complete ban on performers from Pakistan, asking the petitioners to not to be “so narrow minded”.

Encouraged by this mild thaw in relations and Maula Jatt’s global success, its makers had hoped the folk drama would attract audiences in India.

The leading actors of Maula Jatt are well-known in India for starring in popular Pakistani dramas. They have also previously appeared in big-budget Bollywood films.

Police Wait For Actor Govinda To Give Statement On Gun Accident

Actor Govinda is out of danger a day after he was injured when his licenced revolver discharged a bullet inadvertently, sources said.

Some questions remain though, which only the actor can answer after he recovers, sources said, adding he will stay in hospital even though he is out of danger.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam said it was an accident and there was no question of foul play.

"Govinda is still in hospital, so his statement could not be recorded. His daughter's statement has been recorded," the police officer said.

The officer confirmed that the gun from which the bullet was fired is the actor's own licensed revolver. "This is just an accident, so no case has been filed yet. The incident has been reported only in the police diary," the police officer said.

Some questions that linger on include how did the revolver get triggered on its own after falling from the actor's hands, as claimed.

Sources said there were six bullets in the revolver, out of which one has been spent. Another question that came up is why the revolver was loaded if Govinda had planned to leave it at home before going to catch a flight. There is a possibility that the revolver's safety lock was broken, sources said.

The 60-year-old actor underwent a surgery on Tuesday and is recuperating in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.

"Govinda sir is fine today. He will be moved to the normal ward today. He will be discharged tomorrow or day after. With everyone's blessings, he has recovered. So many people are praying for him, he has such a massive fan following. I'd like to tell fans please don't panic. He will start dancing in a few months," Govinda's wife Sunita Ahuja said today, news agency PTI reported.

Dr Ramesh Agarwal, who tended to the actor after the accident, said the bullet hit him below his left knee and that he had got eight to 10 stitches.

Suniel Shetty sustains serious injury during shooting for web series

Veteran actor Suniel Shetty sustained a serious injury while filming an action sequence for his upcoming web series Hunter in Mumbai.

The incident occurred during an intense fight scene involving several action performers, where a wooden log prop was accidentally mishandled.

The sequence, designed to showcase Shetty’s renowned commitment to performing his own stunts, took a dangerous turn when the log struck him directly in the rib cage. Sources close to the development revealed that the impact caused significant pain, prompting immediate medical attention on set.

Despite his long-standing reputation for executing high-intensity action sequences, Shetty’s injury appeared to be severe enough to raise concerns among the cast and crew. A doctor was quickly called to the scene, and an X-ray machine was brought in to assess the extent of the damage.

Fortunately, the X-ray results have not shown any fractures or internal injuries, though the full implications of the injury are still being evaluated.

Shetty, who is well-known for his dedication to performing stunts with authenticity and precision, has always pushed the boundaries of action filmmaking. His commitment to physically demanding roles has earned him a loyal fan base and respect within the industry.

However, this incident has served as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with action filmmaking.

The actor, who is also gearing up for the release of Welcome to the Jungle alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, is expected to take time to recover from the injury.

Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar dies at 87

Veteran Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar has died at the age of 87 in India's financial capital, Mumbai.

The actor died of "age-related health issues", Dr Santosh Shetty of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where the actor was admitted, said.

His son, Kunal Goswami, told ANI news agency that Kumar had been battling health issues for a long time.

Kumar leaves behind a rich legacy of patriotic films, which propelled him to fame in the 1960s and 1970s.

Kumar, who was originally named Harikrishan Goswami, was born in 1937 in the northern state of Punjab.

He carved a niche for himself in the Hindi film industry with films like Shaheed, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and Kranti. Known for their patriotic fervor, his films struck a chord with the Indian public.

His contributions earned him the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest cinematic honour.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media to mourn his death.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him an "icon of Indian cinema".

"Manoj Ji's (a term of respect in Hindi) works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations," he wrote in a post on X.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said his death was "a great loss to the [film] industry" and that the entire industry would miss him.

The film, directed by Priyadarshan, marks the return of the iconic characters Raju, Shyam, and Baburao in another hilarious adventure.

Saw Sikander online.

Salman Khan has always been my favourite out of the Khans and in general in Bollywood. This latest film of his, ‘Sikander’ is nothing but a disaster. Thank God I didnt watch it in the cinema. I was going to but had other plans to visit cousins out of town, on eid.

Sallu needs to choose scripts wisely man is nearing 60, moving like a snail but choosing to do such high powered action, his whole body language, everything just looks slow and awkward, his dancing looks like a proper desi uncle at a party. Like he seems isnt bothered nor trying hard enough. Watching his interviews He looks like hasn’t slept for months.

There are films that entertain.
There are films that provoke thought.
And then, there are films that seep into your soul and stay there, changing the way you see love, war, country, and even yourself.

Mani Ratnam’s unofficial trilogy of Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), and Dil Se.. (1998) is not just a cinematic arc of love stories; it is perhaps the most powerful meditation on what it means to love in a divided land, to seek tenderness in a world constantly breaking, and to find poetry in the face of political fire.

These three films, often grouped as the “Terrorism Trilogy,” should instead be seen as the Great Indian Tragedy of Love, where every heartbeat must negotiate with history, hatred, and homeland.

Roja: The Awakening of Innocence
IMG_0257.jpeg
A simple village girl is pulled into the vortex of Kashmiri separatism when her husband, a cryptologist, is kidnapped by militants. But the beauty of Roja is not in the political thriller that unfolds. It is in Roja’s sheer emotional clarity, the quiet, persistent, devotional kind of love that prays instead of panics. It’s a film about India itself—naïve, vulnerable, yet insistent on hope. And through Roja’s eyes, we feel the unbearable fragility of holding onto love when the very language of your identity is being negotiated at gunpoint. It’s not about Kashmir. It’s about conscience.

Bombay: The Collision of Love and Riot
IMG_0256.jpeg

No film in Indian cinema captures the brutality of communalism with such unapologetic honesty. A Hindu man and a Muslim woman defy their families and the world to live a life of love. But when the 1992 riots engulf Bombay, their personal Eden burns in the fire of collective madness. In Bombay, Mani Ratnam turns the city into a battlefield of ideology and identity, where children are orphaned not by fate but by inherited hatred. The image of twin boys, lost and wandering in ash-covered streets, is not a scene—it’s a scar. And yet, Bombay dares to believe in secularism—not as a policy but as a survival instinct, as an act of rebellion. It says: to love across boundaries is political. To raise a family in peace is radical.

Dil Se..: The Death Dance of Passion and Pain
IMG_0258.jpeg

This is not just a love story—it is an elegy. In Dil Se.., the most haunting of the three, a radio journalist falls in love with a mysterious woman—who is, we soon learn, a suicide bomber. Their doomed love story plays out against the insurgency in Northeast India. And in the end, love is not victorious. It explodes. It’s the only way that story could end. Because how do you redeem a love when both lovers are broken by forces larger than themselves? Dil Se.. is not a political film—it is politics as emotion. It’s about how violence erodes the ability to be tender, and how some people carry bombs because they’ve run out of songs.

Together: A Trilogy of Love Amid Fire

These films are not sequels. They don’t follow the same characters. But they share a soul. A singular question: Can love survive in a fractured nation?

Mani Ratnam doesn’t offer answers. He offers mirrors. To your beliefs. To your complicity. To your fears. And through A.R. Rahman’s transcendental music, you don’t just hear the pain—you feel it vibrating under your skin.

There is a sacredness to what Mani Ratnam did with these films. He transformed cinema into a form of national soul-searching. He told us that romantic love isn’t escapism in India—it’s often defiance, dissent, and deliverance.

And perhaps that is why this trilogy is the greatest in Bharatiya cinema. Because it asks of its audience not just to feel—but to reflect, to reckon, and to remember.

Worth mentioning, these three films collectively also have the greatest music ever composed in the history of Bharatiya cinema. Young AR Rehman absolutely unleashed his imaginations and talent in these three films.

No film in Indian cinema captures the brutality of communalism with such unapologetic honesty. A Hindu man and a Muslim woman defy their families and the world to live a life of love

If it was unapologetic honesty they would make some films where it is a Hindu woman and Muslim man for a change. There are some unspoken truths about why that is never the case in these films, I wonder if anyone will want to address it though?

In Ae Dil Hae Mushqil, Anushka bhabhi ditches Ranbir Kapoor for a Pakistani DJ.

Worth mentioning, these three films collectively also have the greatest music ever composed in the history of Bharatiya cinema. Young AR Rehman absolutely unleashed his imaginations and talent in these three films.

Agreed. Stunning songs from the 90s. Peak AR Rahman Bollywood.

Just the music btw, not the actual films.

For me after watching ghajini I was so heartbroken that I have never picked up a Bollywood movie willingly ever again.

You should had seen Tamil Ghajini it was so heart breaking coz not only they copied Memento but the ending had Prestige twist where Ghajini were twins lol.
Worst is Amir khan while adapting Ghajini to Hindi removed the twin angle, but yet went on to make Dhoom :3 which exactly has the twin twist.

Srk alone has done worthy films that will pass the test of time, the other two khans are useless.

Chaava was a propaganda movie but very well directed, kudos to right wing to have come a long way from their boring nonsense stuff.

Kesari:2 heard is ruined by Akshay , expected.

Stree 2 was the only decent entertainer last year.

I prefer webseries by far nowadays- all of TVF series are better than entire bollywood quality of last 5 years.

PK, My Name is Khan both superhits.

DCH , Rang De Basanti , 3 Idiots are awesome Amir Movies.. but three of them are multi starrer, I believe Amir cant carry a movie on his own, at best I’ll say PK ,sarfarosh and Dangal but nothing else and most of these movies will be forgotten.

Yeah but we should appreciate Bollywood kind of multi starrer movies. In south it was all about a single super star in every frame. So multi starrer good movies were kind of cool for atleast south audience.

Multistarer were common in Tamil for a long time.
Kamal and Rajni acted together in many, Surya - Ajith did in start too.
It’s the fan bases which ruined it for evryone.

I appreciate Multistarer but I do recognise the need for side actors to make main look amazing, Amitabh had that going for him in 70s and later in 2000s, he flopped when he tried to do solo.

Having a solo hit is really tough.. esp a good film that will be remembered.

PK, My Name is Khan both superhits.

Never seen PK but as far as I know from what I read here PK was some dimwit character similar to Forest Gump. My Name is Khan was about some Indian ex-pats in the US, story was not really about the couple dynamic being Hindu/Muslim. Considering love jihad has ignited such emotion in the country, I would have thought there would be some movies covering such relationships. I am sure there are, but since I am not familiar maybe you could point me in the direction.

PK was an Alien, Sarfaraz the character was Pakistani and ends up with the girl

Devdas SRK rendition was a heart breaker too, the dark tonality Bollywood movies create hit way harder than Hollywood’s dark movies.

Too many heartbreaking movies in Bollywood so I had to switch to Hollywood and Marvel to make it easier.

Three most poignant movies in Bolly history:

1. Mother India - This movie best captures what south asian moms mean.
2. Swades - This movie proved what is possible when you stop chasing the UK visa.
3. Lagan - This movie helped shape the identity of underdog teams from asia; it helped India overcome the minnow mentality, it made the Bangla Tiger roar and one day the Pakistani Kitten will join this illustrious list when Rizwan bhai succeeds against Uganda.

I bet all these movies increased the suicide rates in India back in the day lol
Tere Naam was a tamil movie copy, suicide rates probably were high in Chennai coz Tamil Industry produced highest number of such movies, insane!
