Pakistan going back to Mohammad Nawaz in T20Is as a left-arm spin option in the middle. Does this mean we have given up on preparing or developing youngsters like Arafat?

Is nawaz a good option bro?
He’s an alright 3rd spinner. He’s a handy batsman. Not a poor fielder

He is a risky 1st/2nd spinner option. That’s the issue he had under Babar. Bobsy team often depended on him as 1st/2nd spinner

Abrar is key bowler

Salman
Khusdil
Nawaz

That’s an OK second string spinners attack

And they have selected sufiyan as well going to fun watching spin pitches of bangladesh

I don’t mind Nawaz, he is better than Imad and doesn’t have a mouth bigger than his talent, but he should have done more between 2022-2023 period where he got a long rope.

Going back to him again is not a very progressive move though.

If I have choice between Arafat and Nawaz right now. I'm still picking Nawaz.

They maybe close in their bowling form but Nawaz has more experience and is a better bat

No it means Arafat needs to pull his socks up

He was not confident during PSL and had some poor performances. He’s not ready yet. Needs to improve
Both are ordinary and have no future in international cricket

Pretty sure Nawaz has lost Pakistan more matches than Imad and I doubt he has helped us won as many.

He can't bat and he can't ball, what value does he add to the team?

Nawaz’s 42 (20) in a successful run chase vs India is bigger than Imad’s entire international career.

However, I agree that going back to him in 2025 seems to be a backward move. It is time to move on from the likes of Nawaz and Shadab.

I would rate Imad's performance against Afghanistan much higher since it came in an ICC tournament and in a very high-pressure situation. Also, if you look at it statistically Imad's bowling numbers are some of the greatest in the history of T20I cricket. Especially his ER.

Nawaz has dropped the ball numerous times in big matches. His performance in the 2023 World Cup should have been enough to never be selected for Pakistan again.

It shouldn’t be a surprise.

PCB tend to bring back tried and tested players but then hope for a different outcome which is rarely the case.

Nawaz is a utility cricketer , a poor mans Jadeja.

he can give you couple of overs as spinner in the middle , and with bat can contribute.

Nailed it

Nawaz was comfortably better

Too many people want a player in the team simply because they are a youngster and they want to see fresh new faces

Well, those same youngsters are not even performing in the domestic tournaments, so intl. call up is way out of the question

Nawaz is an ok player but he has choked twice in big occasions, once with the bat and once with the ball. I'm not sure how much we will learn about him in a series like this, when he has already had chances on the big stage.

It was sad to see Arafat going into this mental shell during the tournament. Warner, Bopara and Haider Azhar were clearly backing him. They wanted him to do well. He was dropping dollies on the boundary too.

You won’t get many chances to thrive in an atmosphere that is built to promote youngsters. He should have been more up for the fight.

Arafat had an ok ish psl..nothing much to see there... His performance was below par but arafat is discarded after 1 game only... 8 think he needed more chance to prove himself but obvisouly PCB likes to fire misfired bullets...

Well if you can't give young players the chance to develop against likes of Bangladesh then throw them in against top teams and brand them as failures winning against minnows is no big deal they should treat these matches as grooming players but in pakistan cheap victories are glorified.

I like Arafat long term potential but he is a bit raw. I don't mind him being kept out of the squad for the time being until he can get some more domestic matches under his belt. If he is sticking around T20's for upcoming series, he will miss out on FC once again like last season so I don't mind him going through rigors a bit domestically to perfect his craft.

What this situation has shown is how dire Pakistan all-round spin department is. Very few good spinners to begin with and ones who can spin and bat are almost non-existent domestically. On top of that, they are poor fielders like Sufiyan. Considering spinners bodies don't get beat up like pacers, I think there is very little reason for spinners coming up to not be taught how to bat as well.

Nawaz has looked like a lost kitten since wt20 2022. But in no way Arafat Minhas is some Vettori waiting in the line. The hype train well before the start of career of these young guys tricks these guys into thinking they are much bigger than what they really are. Same thing with Naseem.

In Pakistan, we have a habit of not giving chances to youngsters in these kind of low profile series, but when the series againe SENA will come in SENA conditions, we will throw them under the bus.
