Bun Kabab or Paratha Roll

So while in discussion with [MENTION=135038]Major[/MENTION] on another thread this point came up and I began to wonder what is more popular street food in Pakistan.

1. The illustrious bun kabab with a long history to boot.


OR


2. The new kid on the block, the paratha roll.


So which street food do you guys prefer. Personally I'm a major foodie so I can have both in large quantities :babar
 
The original Paratha rolls were the best when they first started in isloo/pindi

They used to be very tasty, i remember munchies made the best ones.

Now Paratha rolls have become crap. Every other person makes paratha rolls. Now its just an oilly paratha, with over spiced boti, mayonaise loaded.

There is no taste nothing. Some even put large botis in it. The real quality paratha roll is gone.
Even munchies doesnt make them like they did before.

I will never accept bun kabab as a name. Its Anday Wala Burger!!!!! Even if you dont put an anda on it.

Love it. It has its own maza. Though, sometimes i do wonder if the shami kababs they make are clean or not.
 
Anday wala Burger easily wins, but its not very clean food.

Back before paratha roll existed, leg piece or chest piece tikka were famous, but they dont come under desi fast food.
 
If this is Pindi we are talking about. Then Ayaan bakery(lalkurti) shawarma wins it. Only good Pakistani sharwarma
 
Generally paratha roll but Tipu Burger in Karachi over any paratha roll

Actually it is called anday wala burger Punjab side pe.. In Karachi we just call it Bun Kabab, because that is what makes sense. The kabab could be daal, aloo, keema, anda shami... hence a generic kabab. :yk



And I agree the meat bun kababs are generally sketchy and I prefer not to have them if I do not want a bad tummy. I really like aloo bun kababs. Coupled with that questionable green chutney WOW

Easy.

Bun kebabs tend to make your breath stink and your stomach upset. Also, they don't taste as good especially because of the onion. And where you get them from makes it a bit shady.

Paratha roll for me. Especially with chicken tikka in them.

It must have come about after I left... I do visit nearly every year but tend to go to places I already know and not experiment too much because of lack of time
 
Dont you guys think the paratha rolls have been terrible lately?

It was not as bad in the past.
 
one of each please...and please go easy on the mayo. Extra mayo is probably the grossest thing you can get on anything...also why do Pakistanis and all other desis assume the Garlic aioli served with middle eastern food is garlic mayo?

Bun Kabab i had in Lahore, one of the best burgers I have eaten
Never had Paratha rolls

I'm not sure, but i think roll paratha came to the rise when dawn paratha were introduce.

You see, Dawn parathas were used intially for roll paratha. The chicken they used nsdie it was not even tikka boti, but masala boti, this made the roll paratha more delicious.

Must be the case in ISL/RWP but in Karachi (where the paratha roll was first introduced) it was always in the deep fried paratha.

It is bun and a kabab :yk


But seriously... it is generally found on road side stands in Pakistan. The bun is a typical bun but the kabab is made out of potato or lentils or minced meat. Some times on the customers request the kabab is fried in egg giving it the traditional name of the anda shami burger. The bun kabab is complete with layer of ketchup, mayonnaise and mint chutney. The entire assembly is then fried for a bit and then served to the customer in a newspaper (for to go orders) or in a questionable plastic plate for "dine in"


Next time you happen to be in Pakistan look out for it, but be warned a lot of people who are visiting from abroad get a bad tummy if they have street food in Pak. Thankfully I have never had any bad incident. However, I do prefer staying away from the minced meat on these road side stands as it might be sketchy.

Looks like Pakistan has stepped up its street food game.

Last time I went (about 12 years ago), All I could find was traditional food or sweet potatoes with spices all over it, damn that was nice!
 
As a true karachite you cannot pick anything other than a bun kabab, I as it almost everytime I went out on my last trip there.

I think you are just a softy. onions are a key ingredient in any worthwhile desi food, same with food that makes your breath stink. The stomach upset only happens with those who haven't been exposed to enough street food in their time to develop immunities. You sound like my uncle when I stayed in Pakistan who warned me not to touch any street food because it was dodgy for this or that reason. Unfortunately I probably got a bad stomach eating food made at his house.
 
Do I really have to choose one? Both are amazing snacks.

If I had to pick just one tho would be a paratha roll. Hot n spicy or red apple paratha rolls in Karachi are just too good. Plus I’m bigger on burgers than bun kebabs.

your uncle was right.

No matter what, street food is dodgy.

Pakistan doesn't have quality control. gloves arnt used.

Oil used for food is the best example. Restaurants always go for the cheapest quality oil here.
 
paratha rolls are not even popular, apart from in some urban centers

when it comes to sales and popularity, it seems shawarma trumps them all, these shawarma carts are opening non stop all over the place
