Can Australia avoid follow-on?

Pitch getting worse to bat, the Australians are tired and Pakistani bowlers will have a cushion if nearly 500 runs. Can they avoid it? Discuss.

Batting fourth on day 5 pitch against Lyon could be dangerous, even a score of 120 could be match winning. If it comes to it I hope we don't enforce follow on.

Pakistan have got this in the bag. Don't worry.

I don't think they'll make them follow on if they bundle Australia out for a low score. Pak will bat again, and force Australia to bat in the 4th innings when the spinners are going to be a nightmare. Enforcing the follow on could give Australia a chance back into the game.

Having said that, I think we will get a lead, but I don't think Australia will be behind by 200 runs or more. Think the pitch isn't that hard, and I don't think it offers too much even for the spinners (and I thought Lyon bowled well).

Yes Pakistan should not enforce follow on but my question was more about whether this Australian lineup can even score 282?

We'll score 400 and show the pitch was not worthy of Test cricket.

I think Australia will score 350 here, match may meander towards draw unless Pakistan can show some urgency in the 3rd innings.

I am really interested in observing Sarfaraz's captaincy here.

If Aus score 350, by Lunch on Day 4, what will Pakistan do. Will he go for the kill, bat 2 sessions, score 200, and ask Aus to chase in 325 ish within a day?

Or if Aus are able to push Pak even further and score 380ish. What will Sarfaraz do? His decisions in this test could reveal whether he is still the man to lead Pak in 2019 WC.

I think Australia are being underestimate. There batting isn't amazing but our bowling isn't amazing as well. Khawaja and Finch could be dangerous once set.

Hoping for Australia to draw the match. I am against this negative batting of Pakistan.

I believe they should have gone with a more aggressive approach. You cant score only 480 runs in 5.5 sessions. That's one session complete slow from Pakistan. Mind you this is a very weak Aus team.

Finch playing his first test and Khwaja is as terrible against spin as one can think of.

Yes but once they are set they can be deadly.

Never underestimate Australia. This may not be the most talanted team but I'm sure they will give a good fight.

Yes, one shouldn't underestimate Australia at any cost obviously.

Struggling to see Pak getting 20 wickets on this pitch in 200 overs, as you will be required to bat second for 40-50 overs. Pitch is still good to bat at and not sure our spinners are good enough.

I think Aussies will get 260 ish if they bat really well 320, can’t see Pakistan losing this match, maybe a draw if Aussies bat well first innings

Enforcing the follow on will be a foolish move as it will mean we will bat in fourth innings against Aus spinners. What will determine whether we win this match or not is the captaincy. We should attack from ball one at the start of today and try to get them out <300 and then score 150-200 and declare. Forcing Australia to chase around 300 on a turning pitch against Yasir, Hafeez, and Bilal Asif.

Can Pakistan stop Australia from scoring 500?
