Can Babar Azam grow from his experience during this tour?

I had high expectations for Babar given his brilliant form during 2017 and the fact that he had a stellar tour of NZ 2 years ago.

However - he disappointed with his poor form and his constant poking of the ball ouside off stump which led to most of his dismissals.

An average of 14 at a SR of 40 does not lead to pretty viewing.

However - I do not buy the argument that he failed under pressure and is a “bottler” since at the end of the day this was just a random ODI series. However - his manner of dismissals was definitely disappointing.

Question is can he learn from this experience by being more watchful outside his off stump and learning to leave the ball early on in his innings?

Hope he comes back even better than before!

He will grow. I think he was demoralized by first couple of failures - 2nd ODI failure particularly heartbreaking because umpire decision was wrong.
Not sure if Sarfaraz tried to mentor him but it is very necessary for seniors to put a hand on shoulder of younger players in difficult times.

His timid Asad Shafiq type body language is a huge turn off. Does not give the impression of a street fighter by any stretch. Sometimes being dropped from the playing 11 is warranted when a batsman is out of form and struggling for confidence.

Kane Williamson, Rahul Dravid, Hashim Amla, etc. None of them have great body language but they are great players and hopefully Babar can get close to them.

Please. Those guys look much more confident in defence. Dravid was not called the wall without a reason. Babar Azam looks like a walking wicket right now.

I have seen times where KW and Amla are walking wickets. But they have always bounced back.

Only time will tell. But for pak cricket's sake I hope he does.

He didn't have a great CT either and so far only thrives against weak oppositions and UAE. However when it comes to our batting nothing be taken for granted hence I am happy for the moment if he atleast performs in UAE. Due to the unnecessary hype about him created by immature fans some people are too harsh with him. He was extremely poor in this series, still to lump him with the likes of Azhar, Malik and Hafeez is a bit over the top.

One of the most overrated players to play for Pakistan. Gets called "Pakistani Kohli" for smashing centuries against small teams like SL and west indies. Should either open like he used to in his u19 days or be dropped. Even then, Mukhtar Ahmed and Sahibzada Farhan might be better options. and Haris Sohail should bat at #3

No player will grow from the 5-0 thrashing which eventually could be 8-0 with 3 T20s coming up.

It's the same team with the exception of Shahzad coming in. So should not expect much.

I did not mean literally but the fact that he improves his performance in challenging seaming wickets.

I think he has the capability to bounce back. He is an accumulator, not a reckless dasher like his cousin. So his dismissals are easy to analyze and plan around.
The only thing that would worry me is that if you have a team where the seniors are guys like Malik and Hafeez who have huge flaws in technique and temperament: it’s easy for the juniors to feel that if the senior guys can play for 16 years without any improvement, then so can I

Agree - hopefully Mickey is able to guide him and he is able to draw inspiration from foreign batsman rather than the likes of Hafeez and Malik.

Why don't batsman like Babar go back and talk about their game with batting legends like Younis, Yousuf or Inzi. At least they can correct where he is going wrong. I remember people like Kohli went to Mumbai to work with Sachin to sort out his technique post the England tour.

Remember, he was out to a very bad decision in the first match, and got unlucky in one of the others if I remember correctly. At other times, he poked at the seaming delivery, which a lot of modern batsmen not acclimatised to it do (see Kohli). But ify ou see his matches in Australia and the CT, he is clearly learning and adapting. Give him another tour in NZ and he'll be much better because he is that type of batsman. Very level headed and knows his game.

definitely has helped Shadab Khan gain more experience by allowing him to play 20-30 overs [something he sould've been doing] and solidify his credentials as a mentally tough fearless prodigy.

He needs to go back to the free flowing batsman he was when he started by turning in to an accumalator all he jas done has turned himself in to a Uae bully watch the 2 fifties he made on the Nz tour two years back he was batting on instinct .Grant Flower has tried to turn him in to a mechanical batsman and he is not one by nature.

He batted at 5 in the Sri Lanka Test series and failed there too.

With this long gap between our next series he needs to go back to domestic and pile on the runs to regain his confidence.
