Can Babar Azam reach and maintain an average of 60 in ODIs?

Babar Azam has 1758 runs at the impressive average of 58.6 right now :babar:babar

He needs at least 42 not out or 102 in the next inning to obtain the average of 60.

Can he do it and most importantly if he does can he maintain it?

He can get it. But cant maintain it.

It is hard to maintain an average of 60+ in ODI's. He will surely get there once though.

Maintaining it is difficult but he can certainly reach it.

Steve Smith has been hovering around that mark for a while in Tests.

In test cricket one doesn't have the pressure of scoring fast or SR and can bat for as long as one can. Main thing is not to get out. I think it is harder in LOI.

60.... once the away tours start, i will be happy if he mantains a 45+ (ie over the course of his career)

Might get there, but maintaining it? Not a chance.

I'll be happy if he maintains an average of 50 or around 50.

What's the obsession with the numbers? If Bobby is helping Pakistan win it doesn't matter if he is averaging 50 or 60.

But winning against Aus, SA, Eng, NZ and India even in UAE , not just against SL and WI.

We can only beat what's infront of us.

Obviously and you can beat those teams in UAE too given the transformation Pakistan has seen in ODIs since CT.

But it is still not clear enough if Babar would win you matches the same way he is winning you now when you will face those sides ?

It remains to be seen whether Babar can truly be a world class batsman both home and away and against all opposition. Still early days though.

Will get there and might even maintain it if he keeps playing in UAE against the likes of SL and WI but the moment he steps outside his comfort zone and faces tough opponents, who won't serve him pies to inflate his average, that's when his true test will begin.

Suffice to say that he has padded up his stats on the flatbeds of UAE against mediocre opposition who weren't good enough to challenge him, it remains to be seen whether he has the ability to accimilitize to alien conditions and replicate the same level of success overseas. Wouldn't want to see another UAE Khan in the making, this time in ODIs.

Maintaining it will be impossible..

Would be great if he can avg around 53-55 with a SR of 90.. He will win many matches for Pak

Wow I see so many negative comments still when this guys is playing so well ever since he entered the side. What a shame Pakistan has some really pathetic fans here who can't even appreciate their own and would praise anything outside of Pakistan. Be happy with with what you have. Babar is world class and has scored pretty much against whoever he has played so please save your opinions to yourself and start appreciating the talent in Pakistan.

I guess these fans are the ones that were of the belief that talent has dried up in Pakistan but hey, as soon as Misbah leaves and we start injecting youngsters, things start changing in Pakistan. It's also a matter of time before Pakistan's test team will also start performing once they gain some experience and confidence. Until then, Cheer for them support and don't criticize just for the heck of doing it.

It is early days but he avg 72 @95 in nz
And 56 @ 85 in aus

Across 7 games

England his avg is only 35-40 range after 11 odis but i think england will actually suit his game.

No , he can't maintain it even if he reaches it.

His stats are really quite odd. An average of 23.75 in Tests and 58.60 in ODIs. These two numbers should move towards each other as his career progresses.

I hope you mean move towards the 50 mark and then settle there :)

He can maintain it at a strike of 70, would it be worth it?

Between 45 and 50 somewhere , he is pretty good but I will love to see how he bats in high scoring chases and on pitches which provide 350 plus runs. So far he has done reasonably well in low scoring chases and to be honest he has not been involved in any high scoring chases apart from maybe the chase of 370 against australia where he scored a 100 at a rather conservative rate wrt to the situation. Still is young and learning and i hope great things will come for him.

I think he will maintain an average between 50 and 55.

Amazing stats for a Pak batsman in this format though.

Away series in new zealand, Aussies (In UAE) and South africa (away) to come, his average is likely to take a dip then an increase.
