China's foreign minister told his Israeli and Palestinian counterparts his country is ready to help facilitate peace talks, state media Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The separate phone calls between Foreign Minister Qin Gang and the Israeli and Palestinian top diplomats come amid recent moves by Beijing to position itself as a regional mediator.

Qin encouraged "steps to resume peace talks," and said that "China is ready to provide convenience for this," in a Monday phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, Xinhua reported in a summarization.

And Qin told Palestinian foreign minister Riyad Al-Maliki that Beijing supports the resumption of talks as soon as possible, according to a Xinhua summary.

In both calls Qin emphasized China's push for peace talks on the basis of implementing a "two-state solution," Xinhua said.

China has been on a recent diplomatic offensive, brokering the restoration of ties in March between Iran and Saudi Arabia -- rivals in a region where the United States for decades has been the main diplomatic powerbroker.

Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations have been stalled since 2014.

Citing reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, China has urged Israel to resume peace talks and take steps towards a "two-state solution" to end the conflict with Palestine.

Qin Gang, China's top diplomat, told his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen that Beijing is "worried about the current tension between Israel and Palestine."

The top priority at the moment, Qin told Cohen, "is to control the situation and prevent the conflict from intensifying or even getting out of control," a statement by China's Foreign Ministry read.

The phone call between the top diplomats on Monday night came after the recent Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

Many worshippers were injured and arrested by the Israeli police during and after the raids that happened during the ongoing Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims across the globe.

"All parties should remain calm and exercise restraint and refrain from radical and provocative words and deeds," Qin told Cohen. "The fundamental way out is to resume peace talks and implement the 'two-state solution'."

Urging Tel Aviv to "show political courage and take steps to resume peace talks," Qin said: "China is willing to provide convenience for this… We believe that the key to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian issue lies in upholding the concept of common security."

Referring to the thaw in bilateral relations between Riyadh and Tehran, Qin said the two erstwhile rivals "resumed diplomatic relations through dialogue… setting an example of resolving differences through dialogue."

"China has no self-interest in this issue and only hopes that Israel and Palestine can coexist peacefully and maintain regional peace and stability," the top Chinese diplomat said.

In a major headway towards normalizing ties after years of tensions, Riyadh and Tehran announced resuming full diplomatic relations last month after days of diplomatic conversations in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

Political commentators called it "a diplomatic coup" by China. Later, top Saudi and Iranian diplomats met in Beijing and the two Muslim-majority nations are set to open embassies by May 9.

"It is hoped that all parties will seize the favorable opportunity to promote dialogue and reconciliation, implement the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and maintain peace and tranquility in the Middle East," Qin said.

The Chinese foreign ministry said Cohen thanked China for its willingness to provide support for resolving the conflict between Israel and Palestine but added: "It seems difficult to resolve this issue in the short term."

"The Israeli side is committed to cooling down the situation," Cohen said.

"Israel attaches great importance to China's influence, pays close attention to the Iranian nuclear issue, and expects China to play a positive role," he told Qin.

They should stay out of this one. There is no two state solution anymore

China can have a go at this but the US influence on Israel will mean that they won't get far.

Guess would be a good PR exercise if they are seen to be thwarted by the US in this.

China deploys six warships to Middle East as tensions in region boil amid fears Israel crisis could become all-out war
SIX Chinese warships have been deployed to the Middle East as tensions boil over Israel, reports claim.

China's 44th naval escort task force has been involved in routine operations in the area, and spent several days on a visit to Oman last week.

The task force - from the People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theatre - left Muscat for an unspecified location on Saturday after taking part in a joint exercise with the Omani navy.

It includes the Zibo, a Type 052D guided-missile destroyer, the frigate Jingzhou and the integrated supply ship Qiandaohu - all stationed in the Middle East at a time of heightened tensions.

During the visit, Chinese commanders met Omani military officials and visited military institutions, while sailors from both countries toured each other’s shops.

They also organised a basketball game, according to state news agency Xinhua.

The PLA task force has been involved in escort missions for shipping since arriving in the Gulf of Aden north of Somalia six months ago.

But it handed over its mission to the 45th escort task force earlier this month.

The new convoy, from the PLA’s Northern Theatre command, includes a Type 052 destroyer Urumqi, the frigate Linyi and a supply ship Dongpinghu.

On Thursday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said a two-state solution to establish an independent Palestine is the “fundamental way out” of the Israel-Hamas war.

“The top priority now is a ceasefire as soon as possible, to avoid the conflict from expanding or even spiraling out of control and causing a serious humanitarian crisis,” Xi was quoted as saying by China’s state-broadcaster CCTV.

It comes after the US has been sending off a powerful arsenal to the Middle East, as Israel's war against Hamas deepens.

The American military is increasing its firepower in the region, looking to prevent Iran and other Iran-backed groups from getting involved in the conflict.

The US empire of steel includes a network of bases in the Middle East with 2,000 troops, 2,400 Marines, and 13 warships now on alert.

A few A-10 Warthog and F-15E attack planes arrived in the region last week, with more advanced military aircraft expected to join.

The Pentagon is also rushing air defences and munitions to Israel, as well as an aircraft carrier monster fleet to the eastern Mediterranean, Reuters reports.

Another carrier is also set to be sent to the region in the coming days.

The United States has also told some 2,000 troops to be ready to deploy within 24 hours if notified - instead of the usual 96 hours - and could include units that provide assistance like medical aid if needed, a US official said on Monday.

Washington says the moves are meant as a deterrent, not a provocation.

On Friday, a US Navy warship fired what are believed to be America’s first shots in defence of Israel near the Red Sea coast of Yemen.

An official said the USS Carney shot down 15 drones and four cruise missiles fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in a nine-hour onslaught.

It comes as every big gun is pointed towards Gaza, with the world holding its breath for Israel’s imminent invasion of its Hamas enemy’s stronghold.

And humanitarian aid has begun to flow into Gaza after the border crossing with Egypt was opened, providing a "lifeline" for those suffering in the enclave.

China doesn't have the skill or the motivation to broker any international compromise. They like to stay away from foreign conflicts and just give standard platitudes about peace and saving innocents as a token world power.
They have hard time handling their own internal and border conflicts. They just like to do business and focus on economic metrics, rest all is not for the Chinese.

China is in middle east to secure maritime business routes and nothing more. A lot of international navies are already present in this region. Nothing new about it.

China can’t even solve its own border conflicts, but wants to act as a peace pigeon in Middle East. 😏

Top Chinese diplomat to visit Washington to discuss Israel-Hamas war

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Washington from Thursday to Sunday to meet US counterpart Antony Blinken as well as National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, say US officials.

Officials also say they will push Beijing “to take a more constructive approach” on the “situations” in Israel and Ukraine during his visit. But it is unclear if Wang will sit down with President Joe Biden.

Ahead of his trip, Wang spoke to Israel’s foreign minister Eli Cohen over the phone late on Monday – framing the current conflict as “a major choice between war and peace”.

“All countries have the right to self-defence, but they should respect international humanitarian law and protect the safety of civilians,” Wang added, according to a Chinese readout of the call.

Wang also spoke to Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki, and called for an “effective international peace conference as soon as possible” and reiterated China’s support for a two-state solution.

His calls come amid a flurry of diplomacy by Chinese officials during this conflict. Beijing sent its Middle East envoy Zhai Jun to the region earlier this week in an attempt to broker talks.

US official says will work with China’s top diplomat to rein in Mideast tensions

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has told the UN Security Council that he will work with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, to prevent the conflict in the Middle East from spreading when they meet later this week, Reuters reports.

“Members of this council, and permanent members in particular, have a special responsibility to prevent this conflict from spreading,” Blinken said, warning Iran and its proxies in the region not to open up more fronts in the war.

“I look forward to continuing to work with my counterpart from the People’s Republic of China to do precisely that, when he visits Washington later this week,” he said.

Washington does not seek conflict with Iran, Blinken said, but warned that it would act swiftly and decisively if Tehran or its proxies attack US personnel anywhere.

Blinken is expected to meet with Wang on Thursday afternoon. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said the Chinese minister would also meet with Sullivan and Blinken on Friday.

Touche..but lets see if it actually results into anything. Because at present, the present quagmire in Gaza is result of Iran trying to prevent saudi recognition of Israel.

Everyone plays everyone on their level. So far china has a reputation of being non -interfering in regional politics of others. As a broker, you can't maintain the same image. It's a complete 180 role.
