Can Mohammad Amir better Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 2014 Test stats in England?

M. Amir is been considered as next coming of Wasim Akram, current world's best fast bowler and what not. Let's see if he can better Bhuvi's 2014 stats in England.

Bhuvi's Bowling stats
Matches: 5 Inn: 7 Runs:506 W:19 Best/I: 6/82 Avg: 26.63 Eco:2.92 SR:54.5

Bhuvi's Batting stats
Matches: 5 Inn: 10 Runs:247 HS:63* Avg: 27.44 50: 3

I am not interested in Amir's batting but looking forward to his bowling stats as there is too much of hype going around Pakistan and everywhere about him.
 
Even as a die-hard Indian cricket fan, I find this comparison absurd. Bhuvi is not half the bowler Amir is. So even if Amir does not comparable stats to Bhuvi, its an aberration and will not change my opinion
 
Pakistan bowling till now has been rubbish. They have bowled on pads or wide down the offstumps giving room to batters. The bowling+fielding has been so rubbish that they have made a tuk tuk accumulator look like Viv Richards.

Cook and Root are well set and I back one of them to smash a big century here and make it easy for England.

it's not a comparison thread. It is created just to see how far Amir will go in this series after so much hype around.

No he isn't. Bhuvneshwar can swing the new ball miles but Amir is quicker and more threatening once the ball gets old.

Bhuvneshwar is easily a better Test bowler in English conditions than Wahab though.
 
Bhuvi also contributed with the bat...let us not forget which obviously adds more utility points

I think Amir will have better bowling stats than Bhuvi at the end of the series. He is playing his 1st international test after six long years. Naturally it will take some time to find his rhythm back.

Having said that, Bhuvi was overused by Dhoni in that series, otherwise he would have had ended up with even better stats than what he eventually was. Ishant's injury in the middle of the series didn't helped him either
 
Amir is overrated and shouldn't be compared to the great Wasim Akram. Akram is twenty times the bowler Amir ever be.
 
Bhuvi took an excellent start to his career, but injuries ruined him.

Now we can see how is going to perform against WI, but i don't think he will be lethal.

Bhuvi the great took 19 wickets in 5 matches as per your Post. Aamir already took 19 wickets in 4 matches in at an average of 20 England vs England 5 years ago.

If you count matches against Australia in England, aamir has 31 wickets in 7 matches at the average of 21.

Typical cross border agitation . If you saw the match he was easily on par with getting 3 wickets today
 
Amir is certainly the better bowler but he's clearly not worth the hype. He is lethal on pitches that seam but pretty ordinary on pitches that don't. I will be interested to see how his career progresses as he gets older and pace decreases.. He's definitely very inferior to Wasim. Not even a comparison.

Well strike one to Kumar... not a big deal though, as this guy was returning to Test Match scene after 2010.. while Kumar has been a regular in the side in that series.

To do what he did, after ending his career at the same ground.. it takes a lot guts and its quite an achievement to come back on the winning side.

Amir Lord's 2010, 6-84?

If we count the rest of the series, I believe the matter is already settled.

Give me a break man. His first test match, after 5 years against a top side. And against the same team and in the same venue which killed him mentally.

First test was all about PR and getting back into momentum. 2nd test I expect him to do better but I am not a fool to expect a player who has been out of the game for 5 years to hit top gear; patience is key.

Comparision etc is premature.

Some people just can't accept and appreciate the reality that Pakistan won fare and square with a noob bowling attack and no openers.
 
Misbah is a better batsman than Tendulkar because he has a century at Lord's.

Plus already averages better than Kohli in England, so better than Kohli too.

So much was the hype, Amir, the world's best fast bowler, next Wasim, will run over unexperienced middle odder of England batsmen, will shut up the English fans and blah blah. This fast bowler couldn't even match Bhuvi's last performance where he was bowling at 120 to 128 ks. Pakistani fans shouldn't hype their players so much. Hope crazy fans don't come up with excuses like flat pitch, he is still young, he needs 5 more years to settle, came back after 5 years, no clouds, he don't have experience with Duke balls, etc, etc Amir is good bowler but fans should stop hyping him too much and hope this fast bowler don't go Umar Akmal 's way.

He is not a good bowler in Tests and T20Is.
 
Yes, he's overhyped, a failure, not good enough, worse than Kumar, green track bully, bla bla bla. Now off you go.

Indians seem to be more obsessed with Amir than Pakistanis for some reason.
 
As I have mentioned previously, Amir is no longer a good bowler.The fact that Wahab, Imran, and Rahat -all average bowlers- have outbowled him , shows the true bowling abilities of Amir.

Let's not forget that Amir has bowled poorly since his return apart from 'that' India ODI.

Give him time bruh. Anyone who can bowl 140+ consistently and swing it in the air as well is dangerous. This is probably his first test series since come back, lets not forget he was away from competitive cricket for 5 years.

He may not be as good as the hype brigade behind him suggests him to be but if he hits his stride, he is definitely someone that can trouble top batsmen.

Agree and going by his WC records a better choker than SRT as well.
 
I would suggest let him complete the complete cycle of away tour, then we will see where he stands.

If you go by this logic which OP is saying, then people can point out many many things which will look horribly ridiculous.

Some examples you are seeing in this thread btw :)

2009-10 - Two test matches in Australia - avg 40

2009 - Three matches in NZ - avg 44

2009 - Three matches in Sri Lanka, average 44

Whether Amir outbowls Bhuvi or not, he is likely to have much better international Test and ODI career than Bhuvi who is atmost going to get only sporadic chances now. Bhuvi at best will have good IPLs and domestic seasons for some more seasons before fading out. Ishant, Shami, Umesh and Shardul will be our first preference bowlers. Only way Bhuvi will have a good test career is with Pink ball tests becoming a norm on greener pitches.
 
Why are people comparing Bhuvi and Amir's career. It's obvious who will have a greater career.

The OP was just comparing Bhuvi and Amir in their latest series against England. It's a series va series comparison thread. Not who is greater

@ the OP Amir might have a poor series, but will be a better bowler by Miles with the stats to show for it by the time he retires, the comparator isnt world class

And how old was Aamir when he played in those countries?

Still better than any fast bowler India has ever produced. Only Kapil has a marginally better average (29 vs 30).

Coming from someone whose own team has produced only one fast bowler with under 30 average in their entire test cricket history.

It is like Hafeez criticizing batting technique of Vijay.
 
Amir stil has one more Test to eclipse Bhuvi's stats in England.

By the way BK played 5 Tests and Amir will be playing only 4 Tests. Not a fair comparison.
 
Correct me if i am wrong but BK had more favorable conditions to bowl in. The amount of times England got bowled out cheaply on that tour and below a 100 testifies to this. Pakistan has crossed 200, 300 on numerous occassions and hasn't been bowled out cheaply once on this tour.
 
I didnt watch all the matches between Eng and India but I remember one of the wickets was completely green, haven't seen that kind of wicket this time around.

Trent Bridge - Flat track by England standards. Draw.
Lord's - Green track but Bhuvi bowled in the brown one unlike English bowlers (track changed 180 within a day) but still the track had some life
Southampton - Flat track where England scored big and India scored in first innings (from the 2nd innings, things started to derail for India - Moeen happened..lol)
Manchester - Ball swung.....Good track for bowling
Oval - Good track but we batted badly and England racked up 470...

Actually Bhuvi was averaging 16 after the first 2 tests but Dhoni overbowled him like hell due to 4 bowlers and he averaged 27.

In some tracks, it was favourable but some tracks, it was flat.

India got out to 95 in last innings on a 5th test match track where England scored 470. Scoreboard pressure and all round lullooness...

Fans have different rules for their own players and rival players. Now ask that guy to post Kohli's stats in England and he will come up with a reply like 'it was his first tour let him tour england thrice before coming to conclusion.'

Same goes with amir. He is neither an ATG currently nor an average bowler. He is just 24 and playing his first test series after 6 years. Just like Kohli needs to tour england thrice to improve his average there amir too needs to tour places like NZ, Aus and England multiple times.

You are absolutely right. Both types of posters are wrong, people who compare Aamir to someone like Anderson or Steyn who have taken 400+ wickets and then others who are hell bent on proving that he is a complete failure.

On Bench.

He lost his place to Shami. He also lost his swing as he upped his pace to 140k's. He is still a decent bowler and keeps it tight. He is a must on pitches and conditions that offer swing.

BK is a swing bowler and on flat tracks in India and West Indies, it is very hard for him to get wickets after the inital 15 overs.

Despite the hype and a Man of the series performance,we benched him because we have other better bowlers who have moved ahead of him in the pecking order....that too a guy who just won the IPL(Most competitive T20 competition in the world) for his team with brilliant bowling.....I am glad we have a strong bench strength that we don't have to bring up fat RP.Singh,Banned Sreeshanth and Old Munaf Patel for something they did 6-7 years back like some other teams do :amir

Atleast wait for their careers to flourish before hyping them up.
 
Kumar was/is such a underrated player. Really like him and hope India play him more often too.

Kohli has played 43 Tests in 5 years.

Amir has played 17 Tests in 7 years.
Not sure how they can be compared... :moyo

Why not? Kohli is better than any batsman Pakistan has ever produced. I do not have to wait for him to finish his career.

Kohli has played a lot of matches in his career and has a large sample size. Still I won't be making statements like Rahane is a better test batsman than anyone Pakistan have produced just because he has had a great 1st 40-50 tests in his career.

Amir and Yasir have barely played 15 tests. While they do have very good potential, let's not make tall claims before they have even completed 30-40 tests.

You point is partially valid. Anybody will be a fool if he says Aamir is better than somebody like Steyn or Anderson. However, really from India, the only bowler who I think were better than Aamir were Kapil Dev and may be just may be Zaheer Khan and that is it.

Bairstow and Buttler have small sample sizes too but they are easily better than any wicket keeper batsman Pakistan has ever produced just because good wicket keeper batsmen have been scarce in Pakistan's cricket history.

Indian fast bowlers should hardly be a benchmark. I think when it comes to Amir, people have put him on a pedestal where he never belonged. Everyone chose to ignore 80% of the disappointments and remembered one amazing series where he got the friendliest of conditions. People who dared to mention his limitations were labelled "haters" instantly, but now they are hitting back. At times these people undermine Amir a little, but it is nothing compared to the hype Amir received.

As for his age then, I don't think I would call it a disadvantage. If you look at recent examples for Asian bowlers (example: Irfan Pathan, Ishant, Junaid Khan), age 18-20 seems to be when they are at their best. I still think its too early to judge Amir, but it is quite clear that in his 17 matches so far, Amir has been way below average in conditions lacking prodigious swing. I would call this a valid criticism.
