Key players out injured as Sri Lanka name Asia Cup squad.

Sri Lanka news:

Sri Lanka have been hit by injuries to key bowlers as they named their 15-member squad for Asia Cup 2023.

Leg-spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is among four key Sri Lankan players who will miss the upcoming Asia Cup due to injury.

Pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara are also missing from the squad due to injuries. Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan were late inclusions in the squad to replace the injured players.

Kusal Perera, returning after a hiatus of two years to the ODI squad, is still recovering from flu according to a statement from Sri Lankan Cricket and will join with the rest of the squad once he recovers.

Hasaranga is recovering from a strain in his thigh that he copped during the Lanka Premier League, where he was the top run-scorer and highest wicket-taker.

Chameera has a pectoral injury, Madushanka hurt himself during a practice match last week and Kumara has a side strain.

Sri Lanka's opening game in the Asia Cup is against Bangladesh on August 31 in Pallekele.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanaka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Janith Perera, Kusal Mendis (vc), Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Matheesha Pathirana, Kasun Rajitha, Dushan Hemantha, Binura Fernando, Pramod Madushan.

Jee bros, how do you all feel about Sri Lanka dominating bangaldesh?

If Asia Cup is Copa America, and India Pak are Brazil Argentina then Sri Lanka are like Uruguay.

Well Sri Lanka certainly has the ability to upset Pak/India and win back to back Asia Cups.

Jeez Sri Lanka are in great form, they could very well win the Cup.

Sri Lanka is a very strong contender to win the Asia Cup. They tend to perform at a different level in big events.

11 wins in a row but mostly against weak opponents.

Home advantage though, so you never know.

Sri Lanka is not at full strength due to injuries.I doubt if it can win the Asia cup.
During last year's Asia Cup Sri Lanka also faced issues with injuries but despite that they managed to win the Asia Cup. So, we shouldn't underestimate Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka bowling ia also very dangerous as they have a good pacer having slingy action and an off spinner having excellent control. Looking forward for a match between pakistan and srilanka.

yeah he is so impressive. slingy action with some good pace and line. he is going to be a major threat for most of the batsman.

Big win that today for them and one that should boost their confidence.

Home advantage too which makes them a dangerous opponent.

Sri Lanka last 12 ODIs:

Won Won Won Won Won Won Won Won Won Won Won Won

Today Sri Lanka demonstrated their exceptional ability to perform effectively under pressure.

Rain threat looms over Pakistan vs Srilanka today. There is 50% chance of rain in evening in colombo

Sure they can win it. Depends on the conditions but Lanka have shown they can bowl out India cheaply. They deserve to be in the final for giving India a much better match then we did.

Yes, they have young energetic players who can win this cup for sure.
Srilanks always perform so well in bigger matches that is what make them unique as a team.
Best of Luck for the Final.

I find it funny how we both predicted Sri lanka would fund a way to reach the top because of mentality and a track record of Tournament performances.

No one believed us 😂😂

I would say that it was the worst final I have seen since the time I have been watching cricket. Boring and so one-sided that even the teams are fed up with the match.

What's wrong with Sri Lankan Cricket Board?

A big blow to Sri Lanka's World Cup hopes as they will be without the services of their top spinner for the entirety of the tournament.

Sri Lanka announced their 15-member squad on Tuesday, 26 September, just two days before ICC's cut-off date and will be without the services of their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 with an injury – a grade three hamstring tear.

The leg-spinner sustained a thigh strain during last month's playoffs of the Lankan Premier League, where he concluded the tournament as the top run-scorer with 279 runs and the leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets. The injury subsequently ruled the spinner out of the Asia Cup.

Earlier SLC had given a statement of doing all that they possibly can to ensure Hasaranga's participation. However, they had also expressed that possibility of Hasaranga missing out on cricket for at least three months if he needed surgery.

Hasaranga was a vital component during the World Cup Qualifiers held in June and July, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious, securing their spot in the main event in India. He topped the tournament's wicket-takers chart with an impressive 22 wickets in just seven games.

Sri Lanka Squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Kusal Mendis (vc), Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka

Travelling reserve: Chamika Karunaratne

Sri Lanka will play two warm-up games ahead of the World Cup against Bangladesh on 29 September and Afghanistan on 2 October. They will play their tournament opener on 7 October against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
