I've seen people having a bit of a go at the PCB for making this so public.

I think they've dealt with this perfectly, it sends out a message and protects the image of the PSL for the rest of the tournament.

You are being monitored and you will be caught, you will be shamed and you will be banned.

Well done PCB in conjunction with the ICC.

Agreed, the PCB always gets so much flak from us fans but I think they have done well to try and nip this in the bud.

Totally agree. Shahryar and Sethi have been ruthless about it and the amount of transparency is refreshing.

They get a lot of hate, both both of them know how to get things done. Very impressed.

I think they have done a wonderful job. They definitely deserve praise. Don't understand all the flak they're getting.

Yes,They were very quick to act upon it and suspended those players involved in it giving up a good lessen to other players.

They did well this time... Cant say the same about earlier instances

Was pleasantly surprised with this. Let's hope this is one of the first steps towards PCB becoming a transparent and professional body.

They have been vigilant as compared to past.

However, too many names have been leaked just on the basis of suspicion. Will unnecessarily besmirch those names if they are found innocent.

That's the media who may have jumped the gun with some names.

yeah zero marks for professionalism by disclosing names of players that were under investigation.

Yes, if there is some substance to the allegations. If any player is accused wrongly then there should be a price to pay for the old men.

They should be absolutely strict against corruption if they've found someone.

I'm guessing there is credible against evidence Sharjeel / Khalid.

BUT.. the way media and awaam is jumping the gun on judgments and taking statements like "they're being questioned" to mean "they're cheats".. is amazing.

I can't take the PCB seriously until it is completely removed from Politics.

The PSL is the biggest cash cow for the PCB so I would expect them to be vigilant against anything that could potentially harm this. The last thing they would want is for sponsors and international players to pull out.

I would hold my horses.

Would you praise the PCB if Sharjeel and Latif are "magically innocent" (unlikely though as it seems)?

You can't praise or unpraise someone without knowing the full story.

At the moment it seems praiseworthy because all the guns point in right direction.

But you never know when the opposition starts firing too.

The PCB also needs to re-invest PSL money in to the first class system.
By this I don't mean in to infrastructure.

They should decrease the number of teams and increase the salaries of players to a decent level which would make playing cricket a viable career option.

The added benefit is that it may stop players from indulging in immoral practices.

I will praise the PCB once they put an end to their own corruption/bureaucracy and start investing in the domestic game!

Let's wait and see how this unfolds and what the clearer picture is first.

I don't know about making it public but they seem to have a strong stance AGAINST fixing which is commendable. Respect to the PCB but lets hear out the rest of the story

Absolutely agree. Fixing or any attempt to vilify the league deserves ruthlessness. - As for them turning out to be innocent eventually, then well and good but the PCB being dedicated to eradicate corruption and looking for all opportunities of being vigilant is to appreciated nonetheless.

Brilliant work by the PCB, sends out a very strong message. There is nothing good that can ever come out of this but, if ever there was a silver-lining to this sort of thing, the timing couldn't have been any better, right at the beginning when you have the bad apples segregated, the PSL's reputation stays intact rather than the unfolding of such events after the end of the tournament. Also, the final is to be held in Lahore which will shore public confidence in the league.

If anyone is found guilty and pcb bans them for life than yes they should be praised.

Nothing to praise them for. Instead of a statement saying ''we have suspended two individuals and pending further investigations we will not comment'' we have our two chairmen running live updates with their interviews naming innocent parties left right center.

They are also not doing it for the good of our cricket. More like they want to protect their only cash cow so they can loot for years to come. The money (hint bribes) in tens of thousands to journalists on tours have been highlighted time and time again. The seemingly millions of pounds profit, esp this year, has vanished while our domestic players even in premier tournaments earn as little as 5-10kPKR. Sethi, appointed by a man who is right now fighting a court case about corruption extending to millions of pounds, is going to end corruption in our cricket? If you're stupid enough to believe that I feel sorry for you.

100% agree. Saaray lawyer banay huay hain. :usman

Sorry but I feel PCB is more responsible and punishable than these vulnerable players who are being made escape goat by PCB where they should have better security and surveillance to prevent such people from being anywhere near players or maybe some inside people in PCB have been aware and promoting these acts.
Also why it happened to all 3 cricketers from Islamabad team which has previously accused Wasim Akram as their coach
This kind of incident was expected to defame and devaluate PSL
PCB did this only because ICC caught this act and now PCB needed escape goats for their incompetence.

I only want to laugh at Pakistanis all over social media trying to blame things other than the players themselves. The victim mentality is absolutely disgusting. Good stuff by the PCB. Ban them for life. No more of this crap. The sole responsibility is on the sellouts who chose a little bit of money over giving it all for the team. I really hope they aren't guilty but if they are then lay waste to their career.

OK what else would PCB do when ICC caught these guys and reported them to PCB for further action but keeping a strict eye on how PCB handle this issue.

What is there to praise PCB for?

No we can't.

They represent Pakistan so we obviously have to keep bashing them regardless of what they do.

Basically this.

Sharjeel and Latif are stone dead in this - guilty as ever.

Ban them for life.

No one is denying their action but the way things were handled was poor. They should have taken out Sharjeel,Latif sent them home and give a press release about the ongoing investigation against them. There is no way Najam Sethi should be coming into studio and giving all the details of the matter in this way. They could have minimize the damage.

Praise them for catching suspects so early.

Criticise them for blabbering everything in front of the media.

exactly. while they should get praise they should get heavy criticism for the way they handled all the mess.

No they are not.

Nothing has been proven so lets stop this now.

It seems obvious to me MIG bhai (unless we here something new in the coming days)- they were publicly accused in the middle of a match and sent back home without investigation or questioning.

Seems like the PCB already has evidence against them.

Innocent till proven guilty too many courts running these days. Lets wait for the actual outcome rather than just going by individual bias. PCB has evidence of them meeting some elements but putting pieces together may not be that easy so lets wait. Only time will tell whether it was right or wrong.

i have seen many people claiming that but how do you know thats all they have? I dont think their contracts would be suspended just for that

Well Like I said all these are immediate actions pending investigation. Contracts are suspended not cancelled or revoked which could be part of policy under such cases. Lets wait for the outcome which should be out in 15 days as per reports.

As controversial as it was, I think it was the right thing to do. It sent a strong message that PCB won't try to push things under the carpet anymore to 'minimize the damage' like they have been doing for years. It's time to name and shame people.

I for one believe that PCB has handled this issue atrociously. The two oldies at the helm have been extremely unprofessional. And what does it mean to say "we're trying to gather evidence against others". Don't they know about the kind of irresponsible, corrupt, and shameless media outlets that we have in this country?

Players names are being mentioned left, right and center without any idea of what's going on. These so-called journalists have absolutely no shame and I do hope some of the players go after them in courts for defamation and win big so that these guys think twice before slinging mud at innocent people again.

No one is denying that PCB should have named and shamed but you cannot pass statements after statements on such a delicate matter. In such times you have to re check what you are saying and these two were making headlines with hourly updates. Nowhere it happens like that.

A simple media release of taking SHarjeel and Latif out of PSL on basis of corruption would have saved from a lot of embarrassment. These two just want to be center of every attention. This time only issue was it was very highly delicate matter. You cannot give interviews without having the ability to keep your mouth shut which SHK clearly lacks. This guy should be sacked for his incompetency.

1) PCB were right to name the two players provisionally suspended in Sharjeel and Latif. It was inevitable after the success of the first PSL that there would be attempts to corrupt players as has happened in other T20 leagues around the world and PCB have been proactive in their surveillance.

2) I can see why people object to publicising the names of Irfan, Shahzaib and Zulfiqar, especially on Twitter, if they were simply being questioned and not accused of any activity. It led to a whirlwind of speculation. But part of me welcomes the naming and shaming as it sends out a strong signal to the rest of the players that they are being actively monitored.

3) I don't buy this "PCB are corrupt, when are they going to investigate themselves" line. Firstly, we can both act against corruption on the field as well as in the board.

Secondly, so many sporting federations have been implicated in corruption but they still have a responsibility to enforce the laws of the game when it pertains to their players. Their motivations don't matter, PCB above all else has a duty to deliver an honest product where the players are performing to the best of their abilities and anything that tarnishes the integrity of that product must be acted upon regardless of how flawed the people in charge are.
