But Saeed Anwar and Younis Khan have comparable records, but only ever played three Tests here.

Until now.

So today is the first chance for Younis to try to stake his claim to displace Salman Butt as Pakistan's Greatest Batsman of All Time in Australia.

Or to leave Salman Butt leading by an even wider margin.

I loved Younis Khan until 2012-13, when it was obvious in South Africa that he was in steep age-related decline.

Younis in his thirties was a far better all-round batsman than Salman Butt ever could be.

But it's no fluke that Salman Butt has the GOAT record in Australia. He has a front foot and back foot off-side set of skills that no other Pakistani possesses.

Younis Khan has probably now lost the chance to take over as GOAT in Australia.

I still remember Salman Butt's debut series in Australia, he looked the most comfortable of all Pakistani bats at the crease. He had freaky wrists, stylish stroke play and had this elegance which I have not seen in any another batsmen in along time. He scored runs against an ATG aussie bowling attack standing way outside the crease while the other Pakistani batsmen a lot of times struggled to put bat on ball. Even my father became a big fan of his, its a shame his career went the way it did, he was one batsmen if everything went properly, could have been a top 8 ATG bats of all time...

I think the chance has gone, to be honest.

Pakistan's batting has been held back in recent years by an excessive deference towards old age. It's shocking that after Babar Azam's superb century against Australia in October 2014 he had to wait almost 2 years for his Test debut.

Pakistan did okay at home for years with Younis and Misbah as veteran batsmen. But it really worked no better outside Asia than Australia's disastrous flirtation with veterans which has just ended.

I'd have liked to see some forward planning.

Misbah should have been replaced by Babar Azam in October 2014.

Sami Aslam should have been persisted with in September 2015, ahead of Mohammad Hafeez.

Younis Khan should have been replaced a year ago by the-then 31 year old Salman Butt. We know he is Pakistan's GOAT in Australia, and he and Azhar would have been the oldest batsmen, at around 32.

I am well aware that Salman Butt is the only Pakistani with a competent game outside off-stump.

But if this last six weeks for both Australia and Pakistan has taught us anything, it's that in Test cricket the answer is NEVER "veteran batsmen" it is always "Young batsmen".

I do happen to think that Sami Aslam and Imam-ul-Haq would become better from spending every day watching Salman Butt play in the nets. Purely in terms of their shared weakness - scoring safely outside off-stump.

But ultimately I can't justify recalling a batsman to play at the ages of 32, 33 and 34.

Mickey Arthur has put up for almost a year with Misbah's team of old men. Now he deserves the chance to have a team in his own image, a team in which the oldest players are Azhar Ali, Wahab Riaz, Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah and Sarfraz Ahmed, all in the 29-32 age range.

And every other player in the squad should be aged under 27.

I agree with you to an extent with regards to Khan being past his prime due to age etc but despite that I believe he is still capable of playing a match winning knock.

Anyway, there are various arguments being made by posters that Khan is not only god awful in this moment but has been so throughout his career! unless you're a casual, hater or one who lacks an aptitude for the game of cricket it can't be further from the truth because the man has scored runs all over the world. Younis Khan has accepted that we was 5 years old in 1978 which makes him 43. So No Problem. It's a culture. I have no doubt that had Younis's age wriiten with his name in 2001 would have been 28 he wouldn't have been picked because we picked Inzamam and Yousuf and even Faisal Iqbal etc in their early 20's and 28 by Pakistani standards in 2001 was too late.

Though personally I am against any human being faking his real age for any purpose whatsoever. I see it as a dishonesty.
