This adult animation is based on the video games which were developed by Konami during the 80s/90s, it revolves around the last survivor of the Belmont Dynasty defending the country of Wallachia from Dracula and his army.

It is by far the greatest video game adaptation ever and one of the best TV animated series in history and arguably the best ever among mature animation productions.

The shows themes/genre revolve around horror, dark fantasy and action/adventure; there is a great emphasis on story telling and character development unlike past adaptations and then when it is time for the action to pick up it is truly a spectacle to behold and also meaningful.

Doesn't matter what your taste buds are but this is definitely a show you must check out.

Season 1 and Season 2 are available on Netflix, the first season was very short with just 4 episodes, I believe they were testing the waters a little but Season 2 is about 8 episodes, I just looked at both as one Season in this regard given how they are intertwined, binge watched the 12 episodes. Had started watching You prior to Castlevania but mid way stopped checking that out as it annoyed me and just couldn't put Castlevania down.

I finished it last week. The ending was anti climax to be honest. The build up was perfect.

Episode 7 was the perfect climax to be honest, it was incredible. But Episode 8 was mostly used to set up Season 3, I see what Shankar was going for; he wanted to convince the distributor to order another season.

I’ve only played rondo of blood and symphony of the night but I loved them both

Haven't checked out the others on the platform but it is definitely one of the best I have ever seen for sure.

Again imo it's the best one but theirs a lot of good ones like hi-score girl, one punch man, baki and kakegurai , but with castlevania it just has this charm that makes you love the show if that makes any sense lol

It was an amazing series, those two releases were among the best probably in top 3. Would be great if they release a new game on PS4 at some point am not sure if it is in the works. Have you checked this TV series? it takes inspiration from Dracula's Curse and Curse of Darkness but Adi Shankar makes some tweaks in order to make the adaptation work.

Would be hard to disagree with that, any other similar shows you would recommend ?

Also do you think Vlad will return in Season 3 ?

There will be a season 3? The Story has finished.... But i just wished vlad would have shown more in action. It was disappointing to see the anger and the revenge didn't match the intensity.

Does it include characters or storylines from various Konami games?

Some episodes are a bit slow. But don't leave it in the middle. It suddenly picks up randomly and becomes awesome again.

As Shaz said I guess there is character building which makes for a better story as the show goes on. Thanks

Yes mate, mainly from the Castlevania series back in the day. Some of these gems tend to fall under the radar because they are an animation but there is so much quality compared to even some of the live action series

Yep, the final episode also planted the seeds for Season 3 narrative. I see what you mean, but also look at all that Vlad had been through and plus he was also weak given how he had lost the appetite for human blood despite his ultimate goal/mission, he wasn't doing so well mentally and also look at who he was up against in his son, that episode 7 was outstanding given the context behind the spectacular action.

I enjoyed all those moments where there is a big focus on developing the story and narrative, the reason why man past adaptations failed was because they were missing this. But I thought the pace was terrific personally, couldn't wait to get to the next episode while binge watching

Also watch kiss me first. Based upon deception between virtual world and reality. Interesting concept.

Is that based on a book? I have the book with that exact name but never got around to reading it lol

Will do bro. After Spider-Man I’ve started to take your recommendations at more value lol.

The shows I recommended are not similar to castlevania , their just anime on Netflix I truly enjoyed but as mentioned castlevania is the best one

In regards to your spoiler alert question I do think so yes

True, it really is a cut above the rest among modern animations. Another series you should check out is Young Justice if you're into the super-hero genre, although be warned that the story-lines are a lot more complex which can resonate with people like marmite at times but I thought the first one was brilliant, yet to see the other 2.

Suleiman thought you would like this also because I remembered you enjoyed the last season of Samurai Jack as much as me, this is of the same vein although with Jack you ought to be more emotionally invested in the character given his epic journey and struggle, however this is just the start for Castlevania and they've done a great job

Watched all the episodes off the back of this thread.

Very enjoyable watch, Episode 7 was the best.

Looking forward to Season 3.

I don't want to digress too much, but I'm hoping Netflix sticks to having these sorts of cartoons/anime. I'm waiting for Season 2 of One Punch Man and Attack on Titan.

I thought Castlevania might be as lame as Batman:Ninja, but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at how engaging it was.

On S3E3 right now, the show gets soo much better in S3, after the main event in S2 the story actually forms with some great characters.

While first two Seasons are good too I feel the characters get more of maturity after S2 end.

S3 was way better than S2 and S1 for me, I'm guessing S1 and S2 were for the game fans.

Season 3 was amazing. Even though it was very bleak and depressing, it worked. The final scene with Alucard was haunting.
Spoiler bro :P

The whole third season was very game of thronesesque , almost all characters that had no depth in S2 got such good story arcs.

Completed S3 as soon as it came out, it was outstanding; wont spoil much but even at this stage there is so much scope for progression when it comes to the story lines and character development given the level of detail and depth, I like how each angle is given equal importance. Isaac is my favourite given that despite his own motives inspired by feelings of betrayal and anger, he is still prepared to question his crusade regardless of what that means for mankind. If you look at season 1 and season 2 as one package then it certainly compares in my view, but season 3 has had an unexpectedly positive follow up post Dracula

Same here I didn't say out his name coz it's almost a spoiler, Issac's story arc has been amazing. Glad 4th S finally got a go ahead but Warren Ellis is not going to be involved.

I somehow feel the story has so much more now than it did in S1,S2 because of the whole Dracula angle (which is fair) in the backend than front.

Also have to say the Game of Thrones had similar narrative structure as in S3 with all the past and stuff.

Another recommendation I'll make is Attack on Titans excellent excellent anime, 2nd to Deathnote for me.

Hahaha, oh come on only those who watched the season know what I'm talking about.

Yes and to be honest I was taken aback initially, but after finishing I realized how much they've gotten me invested in all the characters. Especially Issac who I didn't even remember from season 2. They now have substantial leverage over the viewer when and if they decide to raise the stakes.

I guess it was very heavy on the Dracula angle, I didn't mind it being a fan of the character but I liked the take on him as you feel a bit of sympathy as well and inherently he seemed okay before becoming insane. It has strangely followed the initial GOT structure come to think of it, good comparison that. If am only looking at single seasons then I'd say the final one for Samurai Jack was the finest piece of story telling ever and you combine that with the modern animation tech it was beautiful, defo worth checking out if not already. I will have a look at attack on titans
