The BLACKCAPS ICC Champions Trophy hopes have been boosted by the return from injury of Mitchell McClenaghan, Corey Anderson and Adam Milne.

The trio were today named by selectors Mike Hesson and Gavin Larsen in the 15-man squad for England following months of rehabilitation, and after demonstrating their fitness with their respective Indian Premier League sides.

McClenaghan has featured for the Mumbai Indians; Milne with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and all-rounder Anderson has returned to the bowling crease with the Delhi Daredevils.

The BLACKCAPS squad for the ICC Champions Trophy features five specialist batsmen, four pace bowlers, three seam-bowling all-rounders, two-spinners and a wicket-keeper.

Batsman Tom Latham will continue to provide an option behind the stumps.

Hesson said the three players returning from injury had done everything possible in a bid to be fit for selection.

“It’s been good to see all three back on the park and bowling; together they add a lot of experience to our squad.

“Mitch and Adam have been running in well, and Corey has shown he’ll be capable of providing an option with the ball.”

The squad was not a straight-forward one to pick, Hesson said – with strong competition for places across the board and a lot of discussion over the final balance.

“We believe it’s an exciting squad; an experienced squad, and one that has the batting power and the bowling variations to prevail in a potentially high-scoring tournament.

“Having four all-rounders (including Mitchell Santner) certainly helps with balance, and the return of Mitch and Adam will offer options with the new ball, through the middle of the innings, and in the death overs.”

The BLACKCAPS will play an ODI tri-series in Ireland ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy and Hesson confirmed a small group of players from that squad were likely to remain in England as cover during the tournament.

Their pace bowling resources are arguably the best in the world at the moment. NZ have a good team. They however will find it tough to qualify from a group that has Australia and England in it.

This pace bowling is capable of going for plenty, hardly the best in the world.

Australia going in with Hazlewood, Starc, Pattinson and Cummins easily acclaim the title of having the best pace bowlers in the world.

Gun squad.

However as mentioned above, they're unlikely to win.

I can see them finding their way through to the semis, though.

Very good and competitive team on paper for sure. Its really hard to predict which one will qualify from that group (aside from Bangladesh). All 3 are equivalently good. NZ's bowling attack is also looking strong.

If BD somehow manages to sneak in a win against AUS/ENG, it will make NZ's qualification much easier.

A fantastic squad that can challenge other teams as well as playing modern ODI cricket. Only problem is that if they can qualify for the semis. I think there is a chance given if they can beat both Eng and BD.

Some good selections and some poor ones. They are always competitive in icc tournaments. There fielding will always keep them in the game.

Why does Luke Ronchi always get selected?

this team will go to the semis, in their group it is a tight race between aus, eng, nzl.. all three can beat each other any day...and I back all three to beat Bangladesh because of the experience the other 3 teams...

Lol @ people saying this squad is weak. It's a terrific, well balanced squad. Probably THE best balanced of all teams participating in this year's CT. Having Guptill and Taylor back is a massive boost for the Black Caps. Bowling is as strong as ever, with the only weakness being the lack of spinners, apart from Santner (Jeetan Patel is MEH).

According to some Pak posters this team is nowhere near Pakistan team.

Always indirectly bashing Pakistan in every post mate. Please find a single post where someone has said that. Get over your inferiority complex already. Your posts are starting to get really annoying.
