Charlie Hebdo trial: Fourteen found guilty of being accomplices in 2015 terror attacks [Post #115]

It (anti semetism)can get you jailed and arrested even in NA (who the hell are we kidding).

Only person kidding is you yourself unless you can produce actual examples of people being jailed for anti-semitism while not doing something else that was illegal (for example, inciting violence).

Oh bhai, owner of facebook page of Holocaust denial got jailed. Mel Gibson was the example you game that he didn't get a gig, but he got jailed too and stayed there for a while. Go google this thing and be in denial. You are going on and on just so you can justify Islamophobia. Whatever you come up with in regards to Islamophobia being Freedom of Speech I will always reject your stance on that. Deep down you kinda love it that Islamophobia is prevalent and you are just lying to yourself by just posting all the "freedom of speech" non-sense you just came up with.

It (anti semetism)can get you jailed and arrested even in NA (who the hell are we kidding). Compare that to Islamophobic comments made by so many, are they arrested or in Jail? NO!

World needs to realize that Islamophobia, just like racism is real. We are dealing with racism in the west and there are numerous protest. This should be combined with the rise of Islamophobia we are seeing. This is definitely not "Freedom of Speech". A law is in place in Canada for Islamophobia, but it has a massive grey area. Atleast that is a start. Such a law should exist everywhere for what is not regarded as Freedom of Speech.

Mel Gibson got jailed for domestic violence not anti semitism. In the US; anti semitism is not a criminal act unless accompanied by physical threats

Why is US even being used an as an example? This magazine is based in Europe and in most European countries anti-semitism and holocaust denial results in jail time. It seems fair to say the same standard should apply to this case as well

'Nazi Grandma,' sentenced for denying Holocaust, goes to prison

In Europe and Canada just Holocaust denial or anti-semitism is enough for a jail sentence. Your point is only valid for the US. In European countries there doesn’t need to be a threat for violence for it to be illegal.

Yes, I know. I already wrote in post #70 above "Actually anti-Semitic comments won't get you jailed or even arrested in the US, <b>but it could in Europe.</b>"

The magazine sacked a cartoonist for a Jewish cartoon.

Proves its not about freedom of speech but to use this excuse to attack certain religions. Magazine will falling apart as a business anyway.

Try this from wiki and then google for further information.

In July 2008, Siné's column in the magazine Charlie Hebdo contained this comment on Jean Sarkozy's rumoured impending conversion to Judaism so he could marry a Jewish heiress of the wealthy Darty family, Jessica Sebaoun-Darty: "He'll go a long way in life, this lad!" [7] Sarkozy and Sebaoun-Darty married but Sarkozy has affirmed that he did not convert to Judaism. The incident led to complaints of anti-Semitism and journalist Claude Askolovitch described the comments as anti-Semitic.[6]

The magazine's editor, Philippe Val, ordered Siné to write a letter of apology or face termination. The cartoonist said he would rather "cut his own balls off", and was promptly fired. Both sides subsequently filed lawsuits, and in December 2010, Siné won a 40,000-euro court judgment against his former publisher for wrongful termination.[8]

Siné reported a death threat posted on a site run by the Jewish Defense League. The text said "20 centimeters of stainless steel in the gut, that should teach the ******* to stop and think."[9]

They've done plenty of jewish cartoons.

Do you have trouble reading? I wrote a man was fired , of course they have lol.

None of those showed Jews as terrorists, they wouldn't get published. There is a clear hypocritical stance from this magazine, only a fool would suggest otherwise.

Care to explain why he was fired, if freedom of speech is so holy?

A few years ago there was mural in London which depicted Jews with long noses, star of david, wads of cash, you get the idea.

It was deemed offensive, and the painters hunted down.

In the West, causing offence is acceptable under freedom of speech - except when Jews are depicted.

Pretty much sums up the freedom of speech in the western nations is a load of bull.

Not just the Jews, European nations have banned foriegn news outlets.

Holocaust denail is another crime in France, people have been jailed for it. Jailed for denying a historical event, a joke when the same nation pretends its the bastian of free speech.

Google them. They'll be deleted if I post them here.

You have just proved the point.

According to you these cartoons you speak of are perfectly legal under freedom of speech in the West, but when asked to cite them (post the link not the cartoons), you run scared. Why?

I bet you wouldn't hesitate to post cartoon depicting Muslims in bad light would you? No, you defend them!

Where do you lot come from???

lol Poor chap has fought racism all his life.

What is worse is Israel as an entity cannot be criticised for it's foriegn policy as this will now be anti-semtic. Even worse Arabs are also semites.

Problem is too many sheep esp in Europe, they believe whatever is fed to them while watching Eastenders and going to bed , in order to work as slaves the next day.

This is also freedom of speech?

Vile disgusting magazine spreading hate in a hate filled country.

Wow! I didn't see this before.

Making fun of a dead child. How low can Charlie Hebdo go?

The magazine is filth and it's employees too. Of course it doesnt mean they should be targetted but I have no sympathy for any of them, dead or alive.

A French court has found guilty 14 accomplices of the attackers behind the January 2015 attacks on the French Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine and a Jewish supermarket in Paris.

Among the 14 was Hayat Boumeddiene, former partner of Amedy Coulibaly who killed a policewoman and then four people in a Jewish supermarket.

One of three suspects to be tried in absentia, Boumeddiene was found guilty of financing “terrorism” and belonging to a criminal “terrorist” network. She is thought to be alive and on the run from an international arrest warrant in Syria, where she joined ISIL (ISIS).

Coulibaly was himself an associate of the gunmen behind the deadly attack at the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo in January 2015.

The accomplices were found guilty on different charges, ranging from membership of a criminal network to complicity in the attacks. Terrorism-related charges were dropped for several of the defendants who were found guilty of lesser crimes.

Sentencing will follow shortly. Prosecutors have demanded sentences of between five years and life for the alleged accomplices.

The trial has reopened one of modern France’s darkest episodes, with the attacks marking the onset of a wave of violence that has killed scores more since.

The three days of attacks in Paris began on January 7, 2015, with the killing of 12 people at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, which had published derogatory cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

The assault at the weekly satirical magazine was followed by the shooting of a French policewoman on January 8, and an attack on the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket, in the south of Paris, a day later.

The three attackers had links with al-Qaeda and ISIL and were shot dead by police in separate standoffs.

This issue doesnt seem to go away - hope this is the end of it.

ROME: Italy’s anti-terrorism police and Europol on Tuesday arrested Pakistanis suspected of links to the man who attacked France’s Charlie Hebdo magazine in 2020.

The sting led to “arrests in Italy and abroad of ******tani citizens with direct ties” to Zaheer Hassan Mahmood, a Pakistani man accused of attacking two people with a meat cleaver weeks after the magazine republished controversial cartoons of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), Italian police said.

It did not say how many were arrested.

Europol’s European Counter Terrorism Centre coordinated the operation along with anti-terrorism police in France and Spain, according to police in Genoa in north-western Italy, where a judge signed 14 arrest warrants concerning offences related to “international terrorism”.

Genoa’s Il Secolo XIX daily said eight of the arrest warrants had been carried out in Italy against people belonging to “a network of Islamic extremists... who were plotting attacks”.

The probe began in Genoa because one of the suspects lives in the area, but months of “wiretaps, stakeouts, tailing suspects and comparing numerous data with police in other countries” revealed other members of the gang in other parts of Italy, France and Spain, it said.

The investigation continues into others with alleged ties to those targeted in Tuesday’s sting, it added.

Mahmood injured two people during the 2020 attack, which came five years after 12 members of staff at the satirical weekly were gunned down for publishing the cartoons.
