Cheteshwar Pujara - Overrated?

Pujara 11 runs from 93 balls !!!

Only once in his Test career has he taken longer to reach the 'landmark'.

Cheteshwar Pujara's strike rate against pace.

2019 -41.4
2020-25.4
2021-23.1

Cheteshwar Pujara has spent 871 deliveries waiting to get off the mark in Test cricket. The only men to spend more time on 0 since Pujara debuted, are Alastair Cook (978 balls) and Joe Root (972 balls).

- Loud cheers after Pujara gets off the mark with his 35th ball
- Loud cheers after Pujara gets to 100 balls with 12 runs to his name

You gotta love this crowd

Pujara's lean run continues. Hasn't scored a Test century since Jan 2019. In 49 innings since then, averages 27.

Time's up?

His time was up last year. Got recalled on the basis of bashing second division county bowlers.

He is a honest trier and the other options aren't very convincing so can be persisted if one of Rohit or Rahul is injured. Gill should bat at 3 or 5 too.

Pujara isn't half the player he was for a brief period, but still merits place in the eleven for me.

Overrated? I doubt he's hardly rated by opposition or even commentators. He gets into the team because he's got a social media fanbase. Otherwise based upon his performances he shouldn't be allowed in the stadium forget the team.

Perhaps his slow approach to hold one end and tire out bowlers allowed pant jadeja to explode later? So it's strategic? I don't rate him highly but I respect the temperament. Unfortunately in England one ball will always have your name written all over it.

Australians rate him big time. Won a series here for India, and played a major part in another win

He struggles badly when the ball moves around. He is successful in Australia because he doesn't have to contend with seaming swinging over cast conditions there.

His record in England, New Zealand and South Africa is terrible for a batsman with a so called reputation of being a wall, blunter.

Looking at his recent performances, i would assume he would be ridiculed more than rated in Australia. The guy's technique of playing short pitch bowling was to let the ball hit him on his body. He managed to do that 8-10 times in a session. His fans call it bravery, most others call it incompetency. In his entire career he had one good series against australia, frankly it was a series win against australia b side which even Ganguly or most of us don't rate much so i wonder if Australians would even know about it to rate him 'big time'.

That's the excuse his fans have been living with, that he played a lot of deliveries and hence helped the team. Not scoring runs doesn't help anyone but the opposition. Once in a while on 5th day you would be required to bat to draw in a test match, in case of Pujara that's his entire game.

He's not overrated. I don't see many people even rating him. Above average batsman given his contributions early in the career.

Yea me too. I believe the same as you. Just wondering about the strategy though.

There is still every chance that he puts together a gritty and useful fifty in the second innings to assist India’s position.

Good fifty but still not convinced if his form has returned back. He seems to be just good for those occasional 50s.

He has his flaws but his grit is unquestionable. One of the best No.3s India's had.
