China bans dozens of Muslim names for babies in Xinjiang

Masood/Azhar/Hafeez are names of individuals who are pious Muslims as they do not affect China in anyway. In fact, they help China by pestering India.

If any, China will encourage those names.

Why would Muslims name their children Mecca,Imam,Jihad? :s even Saddam?

Chinese paranoia at it again. And people think that if these guys replace America as the worlds number 1 power it will be better for Muslims. Delusion.

How do we know that it is not a TOI propaganda against China-Pak friendship?

never heard anyone name Mecca but Imam and Jihad are commonly used. Jihad is mostly used by Arabs and Imam by SE Asians.

I wonder why they think that? Do you think China will bomb the middle east if they ever replace America as number 1 power?

That raises the question, would Ahmed rather be called Jonny or take a cruise missile hit while retaining his name of choice?

Cpt. Rishwat the way China treat its own citizens is already bad enough. never mind what they would do in the middle east if their interests were threatened like Uyghur separatists threaten Chinese sovereignty.

Has China fought any wars abroad in recent times? The last one I have heard about is with India. Other than that, neither of them seems to get involved in wars abroad much, India/Pakistan excepting.

Vietnam war and Sino-Vietnam war.

China does not fight wars. Look at the countries surrounding them. Intimidation usually works for them.

Just see how China is bullying Duterte and Philippines. Poor Philippinos cannot even go to their own Islands. One Chinese warship and a few planes are enough to destroy those SE Asian nations mentally.

Outside of India & Taiwan/Japan(US help) no one can militarily challenge them.

Shan Masood, Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez?

Put that on a Shan masala ad. And for the love of god, it's Hafiz(haa-fizz), not Hafeez. His name isn't Hafeez. Hafiz is a title for someone who has memorized the Quran.

News anchor fired after referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping as 'Eleven' Jinping

There country so can do whatever they want. As there is no such thing as the Ummat Muslim's just have to live with it.

Never heard anyone named Mecca and Jihad. Yes Islam and Imam is not uncommon. Osama is a very common name in Pakistan, and its nothing to do with the terrorist Bin laden

Many Saddam's in India, not only is their name Saddam but also Hussein to go along with it.

Saddam Hussein was popular in India for taking on America, back when India wasn't pro US. Personally still have respect for him.

I see. Pakistani's, from what I've seen, like naming their children in their own language. A lot of people in my family have Persian names, my pakhtun friends have Pashto names and names of their icons and it is similar for other provinces. However, now, with the forced Islamization and Wahabbism, people are more commonly naming their children in Arabic. However, still a lot of people with non Arabic names.

In Bengal, where I am from, there is an entire generation of men named after Subash Chandra Bose, and after Amartya Sen won the Nobel, now there is a generation of Amartyas. Praan used to be a popular name, till there was a famous Bollywood villain by that name, and now this name is extinct. There is also the trend to name kids starting with double A's so that they will be on top of any alphabetical list.

From a personal view I think China has actually not done a bad thing preventing kids being called "Islam, Quran, Mecca or Medina". On the otherhand I understand it violates Human Rights though, but I think China is committing far has worse human rights violations than this

China bans some Islamic names (if Fox News is to be believed)

BEIJING – Authorities in western China are prohibiting parents from naming their children Islamic names in the latest effort to dilute the influence of religion on life in the ethnic Uighur minority heartland.

"Muhammad," ''Jihad" and "Islam" are among at least 29 names now banned in the heavily Muslim region, according to a list distributed by overseas Uighur activists.

No one can do anything to the Chinese. So the Uyghurs will carry on being persecuted.
