We are only in the 7th game today but have had so many games go down to the wire (apart from yesterday) already. What do you think it the reason? Bad bowling, Good batting or maybe a combination of both?

You were disappointed as soon as we had one one sided game. Now I am not sure if you are happy or still finding faults

Yes I was as I would be with any other game anywhere if it did not live to the expectations. Have liked all the tight finishes so far which I logged into, so yeah genuine question.

so in cricket, for that matter, in any sports, its common that you would see one sided games once in a while. not sure why to get disappointed and show the frustration towards the league or sport body.

I'm not showing disappointment towards the league, in fact I was appreciating the close games and was wondering what the reason could be. If a league has a boring match, it will be criticized by the viewers, be it IPL, PSl, CL, EPL etc. Stop being so sensitive.

The teams are much more evenly matched this season than a few years ago. CSK and MI, and to an extent KKR were significantly overpowered compared to the rest in the past. DD and KXI just made up the numbers. That's all changed.

All sides are flawed sides, and that actually leads to interesting games.

T20s will always be close - because of the duration of the game. T20 overs are too little for 11 players, therefore the gap between teams reduces. Also, no one is out of T20 in most cases; in changes in every overs. On contrary, in Test better teams has more better individuals and every player can come into the game at some stage (for example that WI or AUS side had 11 greats, and some ATGs playing together - IND/PAK/ENG probably had 2/3/4 players who could have got into those XI ).

By maths, 1 over in T20 is 5% of the innings - so one good over, can cover up to 10, even 20% of the game from no where (Kartik recently recovered 100% in one over :( ); which is near impossible in ODI. It's more surprising for me if any T20 ends in more than 10% gap (that's roughly 2 overs or 18/19 runs). It's cheap but instant entertainment - why people are wasting time to figure out food value of pop corn?

Besides, IPL (any PL/SL) is draft system - on papers, every team is almost equal. In regional cricket, talent isn't equally distributed, while T20 leagues' expenses are bounded by upper & lower limits, therefore sugar dads can't serve cheque free books (not like soccer, where Sheikh Mansoor can buy Pep some of his class & genius...); here every game should be close by default. For the sake of saying, instead of T20, had IPL teams (any T20 leagues) played List A or FC Games; I am sure most of the games would have been very close there as well.

Teams well balanced it seems - great news for IPL organizers.

Quality of players is extremely high. All teams have 3 or 4 world class players.

Evenly matched teams with 7-8 international class players so this is bound to happen.

Same scenario in PSL , the thread title was "PSL is not for the weak hearts"

4 cliffhangers, 2 highly competitive and 1 one sided game in IPL so far!!

Bring in more!! loving it !

In addition, there are Indian kids like Kaul, Markande and Samson who are punching above their weight as well.

every season there were at least couple of such players like that. Sadly they totally fade out next season.. Paul Valthaty, Swapnil Asnodkar, Manpreet Gony etc.. Its a good thing IPL performances dont carry much weight for Indian team selection

Lol. Not for the weak hearts. Whole tournament had only 4 or 5 tight games. That too teams struggled to chase 120. We have already seen that many tight games in 1 week of IPL.

IPL is not the only creteria for team India selection, first class games and A tours also play major role. Good way of choosing right players IMO. IPL will bring fringe players to limelight for sure :19:

How close the games may be ..how competitive the teams are.....it finally boils down to toss...winner of toss is winning all the games ...END

Two more cliffhangers today, first match went till the last ball and second one won with only 2 balls to go.

Hope KKR win again, have my support since Akhtar days.

Surprising as it may seem, I haven't watched even 1 ipl match till now.

Finally, team managements are getting smarter and choosing proper teams, with few exceptions. There is a new thing this time though, drafting players at middle of tournament. There is a window for transfer, this will change few things. It's been very entertaining tournament this year, no team is out of it completely so far. But looks like DD not winning few easy games for them will haunt them.

Guys who couldn’t buy a run in psl are piling them in ipl

I know. The top 10 batsmen in IPL so far Samson, Rahul, Kohli, Williamson, Gayle, Pant, AB, Rayudu, Surya Kumar, DK combined scored fewer runs than McCullum or Narine in PSL.

I only catch highlights once in a while and saw 1-2 good finishes. My trouble with IPL is it's hard to keep straight how many teams, what the format and schedule is, etc. I feel like every game I watch is CSK vs. KKR or some other alphabet soup, but they all seem to blur :33:

Sour Grapes.

This year IPL has been very closely contested which is great for the tournament. Even though MI and DD find themselves in the bottom of the table, they have go some very close games which could have gone either way.

What made you conclude that?

If you were a test fan like some here, I would have taken your hatred comment as something coming from T20 league hater. But You were one of those watching PSL closely if I remember correctly. I consider you like some of the Pak fans who hate IPL because it is the best league in the world and importantly it is BCCI’s tournament.

Yikes. Lots of issues and insecurities here.

I prefer test cricket, and don't mind T20 leagues though I don't associate any meaning/importance to any of them, including PSL. PSL is probably the league I watched the most of, as it is natural to have some preference towards your own league, but I didn't really care who won/lost, and watched highlights mostly then too.

IPL is the league that I know the second most about, and probably the only other league who's highlights I watch, because the coverage is so in-your-face. My criticism of it was genuine from my perspective. It may well be the best league in the world, but I couldn't care less.

I dont like this cliffhanger bussiness!!!

My team is always the one who falls off of that cliff. :( #mumbaifan
