I’ve got this playing on a loop. Last I heard, the legendary Gumby is a part of this project, but I suspect he didn’t show up for this song because Ali Hamza is producing this season and after Gumby’s last falling out with the Noori brothers, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with them.
I loved the tenor and timbre of the vocalist. It was great to hear a song in what the Iranians used to derisively call Subuk-e-Hindi, i.e. Difficult Urdu. There’s been a tradition of Farsi kalam singing, and one used to be able to hear the odd Farsi kalam at the various Sufi shrines, and it was invariably sung in this manner, i.e. without attempting a true Persian accent, which most of us can never quite get right.
