What's new

"Come and talk in India buddy, I will see what you do in India" Rohit Sharma

Even if we accept that argument how is he best ever pacer? he average in 30s in 3 countries which includes england also and late 20s in australia and and new zealand. So how is is he better than Marshall Imran Ambrose etc?

I'm not saying he's the best ever. Just pointing out the flaw in that argument.

At least the aussies accepted they were simply outplayed in india, no crying about pitches like kohli and gambhir or threats about what india will receive back in australia.

It's no wonder india have never won a single series in aus or SA when they have such a childish and weak mentality.

How many test series has SA won in India?one

AUS required their best ever team plus rain to win a series in India.

So neither of those teams have a greag record in India.

Kohli has the game to back his words Rohit doesnot.

Regarding Steyn well he sledges batsmen he knows are not good like Rohit Hafeez etc etc.He tried to sledge a certain Sachin Tendulkar once and was shut up very rudely with the bat.So Steyn is no brave soldier either.

It depends on the batsman though. Brian Lara was renowned for picking a fight when he got to the crease because he wanted to get himself fired up. He would actually start sledging the slips fielders and the wicketkeeper. Steve Waugh gave his team very strict instructions to NOT respond to Lara when he started sledging them when he came to the wicket. Javed Miandad was another, he would start sledging the bowler to fire himself up.

They were minority in my opinion.

We had one batsman in our team who used to sledge fielders to get himself going but majority of batsmen will get themselves distracted by getting into a sledging war. Or if you want to do it then do it intelligently by controlling the sledging from your side. Not by simply responding to what a bowler is starting.

I have sledged a fair bit while bowling. I remember one time a batsman had a break-up and his girl friend left him for a much older man. I didn't know the whole story but while bowling/fielding, time to time I was saying - watch out for the old man. That got him really irritated. I was cool with him off the field though.

Having thought about it for a while I think it's not a bad idea to stop sledging totally. In some places , it's so natural that people don't think for a second about it and other places people say it's fine as long as it's not personal. Now, it does get personal in my opinion. If we want to claim that sledging is part of the game and tests a batsman or bowler then let's have stump microphone with loud sound so everyone in stadium can hear it. After all spectators are paying for the game and they should be able to hear if it it is so critical. I find it bit unfair where 11 players are just cussing 2 batsmen and those 2 can't really do much expect try to make big scores. It would be different if batsman were allowed hit back to close in fielder if they are cussing ;)

Just ranting here because I used to sledge a lot during bowling but feel differently now. I simply want to see the skill of batting, bowling and fielding. I don't care much about who can give a mouthful. I am still fine but not so big on it now.

Did you even read my post?

Our teams don't simply excuse overseas losses as blips on the radar and then start making boasts about the damage we will inflict back home.

This new indian generation act like they have tendulkar records with the bat and a team record that matches the great aussie/wi teams of the past.

If we lose in the uae next year and our blokes are boasting about what we will do to pakistan back in australia i will be the first one calling them arrogant -.

Never seen a guy given so many opportunities to get into form (force him to form, as he scored some double century :)) )

Kambli was the last one I remember

I think that it's just competitive juices coming out. People talk in most sports. I've sat courtside in NBA games and the sledging is pretty bad. What makes it more of an issue in cricket is because as the fielding team you can sledge to a captive audience - the batsman can be there for many many balls and there are long periods of the game when not much is happening. In rugby we got a lot of chat but in honestly if the game is moving you don't have time to take a breath let alone talk. It's more in between tackles or in a ruck that you can get mouthfuls.

What a lot of people don't realise is that while you will always have people who don't get along with each other, in many cases these players know each other and socialise with each other in the dressing rooms, if not after the match then after the series. I was called every name under the sun when I used to play rugby but after the game you shake hands and that's the end of it. The only time I got angry was when someone tried to stick their finger up my bum during a tackle (yes some players do that to put you off your game).

pathetic response. guy doesnt know how to sledge...poor loser. he should be out of the team for that sledge irrespective of his talent on papers......

What was Steyn's comment this not mumbai?

Good luck for your struggles ahead in domestic cricket Rohit.

What a pathetic mindset. learn from your fellow teammates Vijay, Pujara, Kohli and Rahane how to respond to on field sledges or learn to walk the talk. But this kind of mindset will not take you far in Test cricket.

Extremely disappointed with Rohit. Always thought he was better than this :(

Indians should take all the insults thrown at them, with their heads down.
If they do they are cowards, if they say some thing they are arrogant.
If they win at home they are FTBs, others win at home they are greats.
what a great intelligent discussion going on here!!!!

A win is a win, and we at least drew a few series indicating that we were competitive. No excuses and vague threats made about waiting until you play in SA. That's the sign of somebody who is not confident of their ability in alien conditions.

South Africa have won 5 and lost 5 matches in India and a couple of draws thats what you call a bloody good record. They have won a series and drawn two IIRC.
What has India done in SA except being rubbish?

He's had a poor series, Steyn exposing him ruthlessly. In fact the difference between Hafeez and Sharma is that Hafeez didn't last anytime vs Steyn, Sharma has lasted a bit longer. There were times when Steyn was bowling like an absolute titan, so no shame in getting owned by him. Perhaps keep your trap shut if you're getting beaten so badly?

Not likely if Rohit had been an opener. Rohit took strike when the new ball had been seen off and batting conditions were easier - he could not even make use of that.

Really pathetic stuff from Rohit. First he didn't perform and now he is trash talking against the world's best pace bowler currently. Steyn has already proved himself in india. Remember his 7-fer rohit? May be you weren't born then.

South Africa is the only team that has played consistently well against india in india there is no denying that.

Pure ignorance. Steyn has been a beast everywhere he plays. He is the best pacer in history, miles better than anyone who played in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
Courtney Walsh
Curtley Ambrose
Dennis Lillee
Malcom Marshall
Michael Holding
Jeff Thompson

All these bowlers above were not only faster than Steyn in their prime but also better sledgers.

Insinuation of that comment is similar to what Rohit said but one was delivered by a rookie and another by a legend and also in different circumstances. Circumstances is the key here.

Parallel would have been -- SRT telling Aus team at start of the tour that it's not Perth when they visited India. Then it would have been apple to apple comparison.

I don't mind comments too much and but it can come back to bite you. Steyn found it hard way in the first test. Now Rohit may actually not even do well in India. He has played just 2 tests in India so I don't see on what basis he is even saying that come to India.

You are right. Captive audience where 11 guys can keep cussing 2 makes it bit different. In many physical sports, you could be paid back with interest immediately but you can't do much here.

I also found out that depending on culture, some things are tolerated more than others. So it makes it very difficult to set the boundary when it comes to teams playing from all over the world. After thinking a lot about it, I think it may not be bad idea to simply outlaw these cussing or if it is so important part of our game then let's have it on full volume so I can hear everything when sitting in stadium.

Rohit is typical modern Indian cricketer. Loud, arrogant and spoilt.

how do you know this ?

Watch the videos and first speed guns

There were no speed guns in the 70s and 80s and even most part of 90s during regular broadcast. The only time there was a speed measurement was during that speed contest in which no bowler crossed 90mph IIRC.

During the speed contest jeff Thompson alone crossed 99.8 and that was past his prime

Watch the videos, some of the best batsmen of pace bowling were hurried up

Really and how many runs did he score in this recently concluded Bi-Lateral Series? This guy is seriously short of confidence and yet likes to open his mouth. At the end of the day we lost the ODI's and the Test-Series and the only bright light was 4 solid players emerging out of their shell.Pakistani fans have every right to criticize us as we went without a win on this tour.
Now let us re-group and focus on another tough tour in New-Zealand

Stop hating on this Classy right Hander. It's Rohit v2.0. Only a matter of time before he bounces back and hits back to back centuries.

Of course he will be waiting for the return to India.

I would say ROhit is a nobody in cricket.

People should ignore what this average cricketer has to say.

Until he proves that he is not a home track bully, he is a nobody.

Bump. Guess Rohit took the flight to India alone. Seems Gambhir 2.0 and quite silly, if you look back now. Happened around same time last year. Hope someone knocks some sense into him and makes him realize about the challenges in the upcoming Aus tour.

Not only does Sharma fail miserably with a bat but he is also very weak at trash talk. With only 4 down instead of trying to prove a point at Durban against Steyn he is already thinking of Indian pitches :))) What a quitter.

This was the funniest thing in ages. RS is a lion at home, away he is a cockroach.

LOL, so each time this dude will give this talk whenever he fails playing away? We may be seeing few more 200+ form this dude then because he is going to fail so many times when playing away.

If you think about it, Warner and Rohit are no different. They are just as hopeless in India and Australia respectively

Eventhough Kohli flopped miserably in England i don't think he would utter such nonsense.
Well deserved Bump thread for a FTB almost signed a 5 year contract with BCCI coz double century..

It was still an insane innings.
This innings should receive the reception Afridi got for his 37 ball 100.
We as Pakistanis get pleased so easily.
We have been obsessing about this idiot Afridi for over 20 years just coz he played that one knock.
And Indian batsman are breaking 200 barriers in ODIs like cakewalk.
Even then people find it tough to appreciate Rphit Sharma for his efforts.
If this was Umar Akmal he would have a free pass in the team for the next. 20 years, ditto Afridi.

Just saw this thread now.

Atleast he shows fight and character. Not a begerat like our fake wannabes who want to control their positions in the team at all costs even if it takes not scoring runs for the country.

Rohit Sharma never delivers in pressure games. Kohli masks over so many holes in the Indian team.

Rohit scored 50 runs in the entire T20 World Cup consisting of 4 games, that's pathetic.

At least our players no matter how bad would score at least 100 runs in 4 games, but you're correct that's only because our idiots play for their spot and Sharma actually goes for the win from ball one causing him to lose his wicket.

This big mouth softie goes missing when the heat is on.
Good strokeplayer on flat wickets but so is hafeez .
Kohli is the real deal.

He's talks too much. I really thought he was humble when he first played but actually he's quite arrogant.

Strike Rate yeah just like :amla and 99% Pak batsmen.Except that Rohit has a hundred in a KO match vs a top 8 team :yk

That maybe one tournamet Ali, look at his whole career, infact those of most India's batsmen Dhawan, Raina etc. Its true that India has batting culture like Pakistan has bowling, but what separates their team from us is that they dont have kameengi in them, they are not individualists.
They care for their own countrys image as much as they care for their own. Generall honesty is respected and rewarded in the whole world, plus it also brings success. Simple.

Every word you said is the truff.

Rohit has been mercilessly trolled for his come to India statement over the years.

What are your views on Paine today telling Ashwin he can't wait for them to get to the Gabba. It's like some fortress or something. Ok fine. But how is that any different from what Rohit said.

Very much different. Paine is talking about the current series, while Rohit is focussing on a future series when the current is not going well for him.

Not comparable to what Rohit says.

Btw Indian cricketers are proper tourism ambassadors on these tours. I think Ishant said same to Steyn way back

I remember after Rohit made that comment, the commies retaliated back at that time only by saying that last time when Steyn came to India, he didn't do too bad. Took a 7fer for something in Nagpur or some other venue it was don't remember lol.

But he has looked far more assure in test cricket over the last few years compared to before even though he is still throwing his wicket unnecessarily.
