The century from Babar in 4th ODI was quite different to the centuries made by Fakhar and Imam in previous 2 ODIs and had therefore people talking about it while terming Babar someone as selfish, who only plays for his average.

I just thought to statistically compare all centuries of these 3 players to find out if their individual strike rates remained the same when they passed 75 runs benchmark or they indeed got slower. I could have done the same with other Pakistani batsmen as well but just one or two centuries in last 4 years wouldn't have given a true picture of their actual performance. So here it goes.

But as everyone knows the statistics of all players were severely distorted by that Zimbabwe series, this is the picture when you remove statistics of centuries made by all three in that series.

Following deductions can be made from this table.

1. Fakhar is the real MVP of this team. I had thought his figures would be heavily affected by that double century in Zimbabwe but his figures remain almost the same even if we exclude 2 centuries of that series.
2. Imam and Babar both are inherently slow and cautious and their strike rates exhibit the same.
3. Babar's pace does not slow down from the scores of 75 to 100, yet Imam does slow down considerably for his century.
4. Both Babar and Imam can maintain a good pace if they want, which is shown by their strike rates after their centuries.

Another interesting set of statistics regarding their individual centuries is whether these centuries were made on the same pace as the other team or they were slower. So for all these centuries, I compiled both the individual's strike rate and other team's strike rate minus the individual's score and then calculates the difference between both. Here is that calculation.

And this is the same calculation excluding Zimbabwe series.

I would leave it to you gentlemen the debate if Babar and Imam are providing stability to this lineup of the others are carrying their weight. But I don't think anyone still needs convincing that Fakhar's batting in each innings defines the batting of entire team in every innings. What do you guys think?

Obviously haven't validated your numbers . . So assuming your data crunching is all correct, this is brilliant!
Also goes to show that all 3 are central to our cause . . And we need them to have great world cups!

Really good analysis. I hope that this is being looked at by the players to be aware of the issue here, fakhar has nothing to change, just has to keep working on his technical game to make sure he's building those platforms for himself. Surprising to see babars sr after 100, he does seem to play very loose after his 100 and gets out shortly after, so it might be inflating the SRs would be good to see the exact runs/balls for each category being used to calculate for each batsman.

If Babar and imam can produce the post 100 sr at 75 that would be ideal for the team.

Having said all of that, I do think that these guys are all doing a great job and only way is to go up. The stability being provided is the most i've seen as a Pakistani supporter, we're definitely not losing games because of them. They do get a lot of undue criticism that doesn't at all feel constructive. Just a lot of bashing going on. Good change of pace in this post. :14::thumbsup

Great work, also proves the point of how vital and unselfish Fakhar is averages 156 from 75-100 with his two hundreds against India and England. Fantastic batting, although I am surprised by Babar's numbers especially that SR of 166 after the 100, I'm sure if you take his Windies tons out though that will go down considerably.

Very good analysis. But this doesn't change the fact Babar's innings on Friday was selfish ;)

So despite scoring centuries, which means they batted bulk of the portion of Pakistan innings, both Babar and Imam end up with overall lower SR than team's SR, which is already being pushed down due to the slowness caused by quick wickets and innings of Malik like 4(12)

Imam & Babar have a different role in the team compared to Fakhar. Fakhar has the license to score freely because Imam & Babar are around.

Yes, Imam & Babar need to improve their strike rotation but its a huge stretch when PPers start to blame them for the loss.

Our main challenge in the batting order lies in the lower middle order, and even Fakhar might get a bit exposed with all the teams studying his dismissal pattern unless he can counteract their plans by chaning his game slightly to handle the ball that goes across him.

Imam and Babar need to pick up on their strike rate should the pitches in the world cup be as close as what we have seen in the ODI series. Their strike rates are just fine for a supportive wicket where there is some sort of balance between bat and ball.
