Hardly! 1975, 1996 and now 2011.

Great victory for England (South Africa 'B' team) and don't they deserve it..

The South Africans sorry the English put up a great show on this tournament and are a force to be reckoned with...

It is going to be a tough long summer for Pakistan...

I thought after the momentum that Aussies had beating pakistan, they should have beaten Eng with ease but thats the reason T20 is won more by luck than 50/50.

Do not think luck has much to do with it, the english team totally outplayed them. Unlike us, they kept the pressure on them in the field throughout and this showed as the Australians did not get away with murder towards the end of their innings.

Maybe we drained all the juice out of the aussies in the semi ;-)

Aussies gave up so easily... especially Michael Clarke.. what the hell was he doing today whilst running between the wickets? Was so nervous and it showed... I think that really did Australia in today. I just wish if the Aussies were going to give up the cup so easily in the Finals that Hussey retained his miracle-innings for another day and let Pakistan progress to fight England... cuz once we were in form (from the SA game), we weren't going to go down so easily!

My thoughts too, while watching the final I could not help but feel that it would have been a better final if the Pakistan team was in it, this is subjective ofcourse. I asked myself why they had to play like devils against us and as sheep against the english. But then again you neva know.

Oh well, guess I still have not completely gotten over it. Sorry guys for my rant, maybe a few more days and it should be out of my system.

great win for s.africa a, but have to say clarke was instrumental in england win, running warner out then playing singles in the crucial power play overs, the game was gone once he strode out to the wicket

To be fair RA, it was a poor performance by Australia. Very poor.

Sure we got flogged. But we were in the final. Those that want to hack us for being lame in the final should consider we were better than every other team except England while carrying Michael Clarke.

RA keep in mind that these posts are a bit biased as we are still in shock of what happened in the semifinal. From your posts, I believe you are highly intellectual and probably have this figured out.

It is just that there is this mental stigma when it comes to the Aussie team, maybe it has to do with the last 11 or so games we have played them. It is just that we all were expecting a lot more from this team in the final.

We were carrying Colly though. He was out of nick all tourney, and Wright hardly got in with bat or ball at any time.

Australia didn't have a bad match - they batted OK and scored enough runs to defend, but their bowling tactics were a bit stereotyped and England had planned for them. Also, Watson is not really good enough as a fifth bowler.

we made it to the semis while carrying Hafeez, Latif and Misbah ;-)

Congrats England on 1st WC win.

They had the most balanced team in tourney with a strong batting line up and a good bowling attack.

England finally got away from picking Bits and pieces players etc....

Hard luck mate. I thought that Australia were just stupendous in all the matches and would easily steam roll England, but England played really well and all their moves yesterday paid spectacularly. It simply wasn't Australia's day.

Australia are a class team and even if it isn't their day finish on top on most cases. But may be even that quality of theirs had an off day yesterday.

But all this shouldnt take any creadit away from England. They played fearless and high octane cricket and were deserved winners.

Congratulations pal :). England are worthy winners. Hope this victory acts as a fillip to English cricket inspiring more youngsters to take up the game.

Meh. I'm finding it hard to care. So I'm English. So England won a trophy. But it doesn't really feel like it. Now, how about some real cricket this summer? Or will England just become a bunch of rubbish cricket specialists? I hope they don't forget on which side their bread is buttered.

Yep. Not the greatest idea bowling all out pace on flat wickets at English/South Africans used to playing on seaming tracks.

But that's done, it was a disappointing performance from us but at least we didn't go home in the first round this time.

Maybe because almost your entire top order is not English? :akhtar

As opposed to those mighty other teams who didn't make the final? :13:

I never said Australia is a worse team in comparison to the others in the tournament... clearly they were 2nd best. It's just that they didn't put up a fight in the final, which was a big disappointment. I was backing Australia to win this one comfortably but as one of the other posters said, they played like sheep against England vs the mighty hearted performance they put up against Pakistan.

And yes, Clarke was a total passenger in this Australian side and it was one of the major reasons they put up such a poor score. Those saying 149 was enough are out of their minds. England was the in-form team and 149 was at least 10-15 runs below competitive, and 30+ runs short of what they would've ideally wanted. Can't blame the bowlers IMO

Lost to Sri Lanka in 96 in the final.

It's weird to see that an English cricket fan is finding it hard to enjoy their only big international multi-nation tournament victory. Maybe it has to do with how the retarded ICC hosted two T20 WC's within the space of one year?

Considering their trends, we should now expect them to win the next three World Cups comfortably. :ibutt

Maybe that contributes as well, Twenty20 gets very repetitive after just a few games. However, I also thought this was quite a poor tournament that highlighted some of the weakest sides of the sport. Take England's opening game as a fine example, stupidly decided by D/L. Plus all the bureaucracy and other nonsense. ICC tournaments are always as dull as dish water and this was another one for the ledger.

Aussie media gloomy over 'painful' T20 loss

(AFP) – 3 hours ago
SYDNEY — Australian media Tuesday admitted the World Twenty20 final defeat to England "hurts" and hoped it did not foreshadow more pain in this year's Ashes series against their arch-rivals.

Low-key newspaper coverage also predicted the axe for captain Michael Clarke, whose failure with the bat helped England secure their first ever world cricket title by seven wickets in Barbados.

Sydney's Daily Telegraph ran a picture of the dejected Clarke standing in front of England's celebrating players, under the headline, "Poms target Ashes after our painful Twenty20 hiding".

"It's not like losing the Ashes -- but it still hurts," the story read. "Against England, it always does."

Victoria captain Cameron White was tagged as favourite to replace Clarke, who is suddenly in the firing line despite Australia's positive tournament including a memorable semi-final win over Pakistan with just a ball to spare.

The Telegraph found echoes in England's Ashes victory last year, and gloomily pondered whether Sunday's result was a precursor of this year's Test series.

"As England romped to their seven-wicket win, the sounds of an enraptured Barmy Army echoed around Kensington Oval in such a manner that you thought, for a second, you were back at The Oval when England reclaimed the Ashes last August," said the article headlined "Dead and buried".

"While they mightn't have been kissing a little urn and soaking themselves in champagne, that they were on a victory dais holding a piece of silverware at Australia's expense provided a disturbing mental image of what could lie ahead."

The Sydney Morning Herald ran with the headline: "Clarke in firing line after final capitulation", while The Australian's back-page story was titled, "T20 defeat puts heat on Clarke's future".

Media is Media no matter from which country ;-)

I think its odd that Englands WC winning news is STILL on cricinfo.
Contrast when we won it was quickly removed the next day.

You are correct there are thousands of people sat in a very large underground complex spending their entire lives thinking of petty ways to put Pakistan down
On the other hand it seems there are many Pakistanis looking for these slights no matter how small they are
