What's new

Congratulations India for reaching ICC World Cup 2019 semi-finals

Phenomenal team. I hope they win the World Cup if England don’t, both these sides deserve it more than Australia and New Zealand.

It is a privilege watching them play.

their victory against Afghanistan was one of the most humiliating one in this tournament

Don't see us bearing either Australia or England without Dhawan. Atleast with Dhawan in the team it was 50:50. I actually hope Pakistan qualifies so that we get either Pakistan or NZ in semis :P

Our middle order and the bowling in the recent two matches have me a bit worried. I hope some players take a break during the SL match so they can be fresh for the semis.

It wasn’t. They didn’t bat well but they bowled superbly and Afghanistan never looked in control. You simply cannot compare it to our embarrassing performance against Afghanistan.

I'm certain you do this just to rub it in. :))

how can I not compare??.. lets admit it when pak won close game against afg its embarrassing and when Ind wins close game its Ind who played brilliantly.. you are something else. You shift your statements according to your narrative... shameful:mv:mv

Almost confirmed second spot accepting Australia win over SA.

We might face England or New Zealand in semis.

This is the strongest Indian side that has been fielded at the World Cup, mainly because it has so many match-winning bowlers! On current form, they really shouldn't have lost to England either and it was a minor speed bump in their tournament. The team to beat for sure!

As always agree with you Mamoon

With pant in and Rahul finding form and team showing intent in first 10 with Karthick at 7 , it seems we may have a chance . All india needs is a little rub of the green

The game against England in retrospect was lost due to toss and tactical errors - two spinners and batting second - today’s game showed that upto 280 is chaseable on that pitch but india managed 306 against England which is a good performance

if SA bats first, than it is fully capable of beating AUS. If india win last match than india can top the chart. I hope it happens and india can face no 4 and win the semi.
it would be great if the no4 is pakistan :moyo2 a free entry to world cup final.

India's semi-final spot was never in doubt (unlike England).

Two knockout games are their real test.

Pakistani, but why should that mean that I can’t appreciate India. Anyway, I don’t want to derail this thread so I won’t comment on this further.

You need to see some of his posts from the past. His definition on how to be a true Pak fan is determined by how much you can hate and disrespect Indian players.

They deserved to be in the semi's no doubt about it at all.

Congratulations india for reaching the semis!

Congratulations to sharma for his 4th century in a single wc tournament. Had luck in all 4 innings, but made that luck count!

Lets see who you face in the semis(pakistan, inshaAllah!)

Nature of the pitch will be our biggest concern, even more than the team combination. If we get a road against England, we are done. If we get a green pitch(unlikely)/swinging conditions, we are done.
Not comfortable facing Australia under any condition unless it's a turning pitch.

Well done to India. They a very good ODI outfit. They have a formula and everyone in the team knows their role. No surprise they are in the semi finals.

Thanks Mamoon ji :-) for the fulsome praise. But as Ind fans we cannot but think of the big shortcomings, which I feel may cause Ind to be knocked out in the Semis itself.

1. KL Rahul is learning on the job. And thinks fielding is not for such royal people as himself. Rubbish player, rubbish team player. Just drop him. Forever.
2. Bowlers now want to bowl to Dhoni, keep him on strike. Thats how much bowler friendly he has become.
3. Shami seems to have been found out despite his 5 wkt hauls. Opposition knows they can hit him if they want to.
4. Cha-ku is underperforming. Agreed last few games were not spin friendly, but even after allowing for that, they have disappointed.

And Kohli is not giving the same confidence as wen the campaign started.

Lol what is this thread?

Anything less than a victory in this world cup will be a disaster. Bumrah, bhuvi, shami, Chahal, Rohit, dhawan, KL, Kohli are all in their prime years. If we can't win this world cup it will be a poor performance.

India has made it to the 50 over ODI world cup semifinals for the seventh time and only Australia has qualified more times than India - 8 times to be precise.

It would be great to see them go all the way and lift the cup this time

This is a battle hardened team that knows how to play in tournaments. They do just enough to win and are very smart and calculated. Shami's death bowling and Dhawan's injury caused a few jitters but they are the team to beat in the SF. Only Aussies stand in their way to glory.

How much I hope they crash in the semis. Surely not a champion team cause champions always play to win.

This Indian team is way too soft to win the CWC.

May be, they are trying to learn from Aussies on building up to the knockout stages of the tournament and peaking at the right time. Ricky Ponting always talks about this

One of the worst batting line up for sure. Going with 2 batsman & 4 wicket keepers.

That loss against ENG was probably a blessing for India as it forced them to try new combinations. Without that they would just keep playing the winning combination no matter how flawed. It forced a rethink before the SF.

Indian team is interested in winning the war and they are ready to lose small battles for that.

Great know-how in to monevouring through passages in tournaments when it really matters.

They can defend totals when most other sides can and barring the England game, they can put up a real fight to chase down a total too.

Can see Australia/England and India winning this, and unfortunately for NZ relying too much of Williamson may come back to bite them.

I think the strength of this team is that they rarely lose all of the sessions. Even against England, they dramatically slowed the England batsman during the 30-40th overs and then Bumrah was excellent in his 5 last overs against the excellence of Root, Stokes and Buttler. When batting, they won the session where Kohli and Rohit had a 100+ run partnership. So they won atleast a couple of sessions even in a lost cause.

India was always going to get into the SFs.

The Australians will be favourties vs. India in a potential clash for the trophy despite winning the regular league match. Definitely something suspicious about Warner's inning in that match and that was enough to help India through. That won't happen every time.

India is also without Dhawan and maybe Bhuvi. The batting replacements have not impressed me personally. The equation to win against them seems simple yet difficult, get Kohli and Sharma early and the game is yours.

with dhawan India is stronger than Aus.
without they aren't but now they have Mayank who is world class too. It's even and he has given Aus a phainta in their own den before albeit in tests.

whoever wins the toss will have and advantage but india has a better chance of beating Aus if the lose the toss as of now with the addition of Mayank.

Also depends on the pitch. if it's turning then Aus have no chance. if it is flat the toss matters. if it it's swing then it's 50 50.

If they bring Mayank at 1 and Rahul at 4 this will be a beast of a batting lineup with Pant in. DK and Jadhav miss out. The Shami conundrum is done too thanks to England and BF. India will be with their best batting lineup and back to their regular gun bowling lineup starting next game.

Congratulations India! You have been a great team for a long time now! Scary thing is that you have not played your best cricket in this tournament and still found a way to dominate.

Who is Mayank? Did he play a game yet?

He smashed Pat Cummins, Starc, Lyon & Hazelwood on Australian pitches in Australia this year during the test series. Missed the century in both the games he played bc at times he was overaggressive

in cricket anyone can beat anyone anyday. The same way Sri Lanka beat England. The same way India beat australia , The same way we lost to england. Cricket is one funny game right :rabada2

Exactly... Counting eggs knowing they wont hatch. It will be the c r a p KL Rahul who will play and cause Indias SF defeat. We are unhappy with his batting, and appalled by his fielding.

I dont know how trying not to win against England helps us in any way or form

Only one trophy though

Gotta win another

If not now when?

I am not congratulating them, after their dubious gameplay in the last 8 overs against England, which, as a Pakistani, frustrated me a lot. I really hope they are knocked out for good in the SF. They will be knocked out. Bye in advance.

I had similar thinking! I hope this happens... South Africa should also be possessed to win! (They will have to get back their memory, they were the only team who were fighting neck-n-neck with Australia competitively - home, away & neutral since 90s!) Then as you said we may get free entry to finals as Australia & England can be avoided! (We may meet NZ or Pak!)

But from other angle I prefer England & NZ instead of Australia & Pakistan (because the latter know how to win cups!) Pakistan can also be determined (as they will be underdog as in CT...!) and want to end the streak (Semifinals maybe the sweet place to do that!) Also England this time maybe determined as they are playing at home & have a very good team!

Overall we should not think like Pakistan and depend on other teams for favorable conditions! Let's play well against any team and win the cup :)

Most likely
India vs England
Australia vs new Zealand

If Australia loses against south Africa, india will be no #1.

india are going to butcher England or n.z or pak in th3 semis. don't worry. kohli and boys will be motivated. Mayank is a phenomenal player. he makes india on par with Aussies. if dhawan had played too then india is clearly the better side.

KL Rahul has been playing pretty well. Runs on the board!

In WC2011, I didnt care whom India face in final or semi. But in this tourney, I am little concerned because lack of power hitter and Dhoni's tuk tuk. but other than that, beating Eng in semi would be a great deal. knock out the home team , best feeling.
last match against england , india made two tactical errors. 1. playing with spinner in short boundary 2. 10 over 28 runs. I am assured that Kohli learnt it from that match and next time if we are against Eng, we will be better prepared. and most probably a indian victory.
However, Australia is difficult to beat. Somehow they show top game at crunch time. The lord's ground is also difficult for indian team in last two decades. So it will be hit ya miss in final for india.
