What's new

Congratulations Rohit Sharma for hitting the joint-fastest T20I hundred

This is eerily similar to the last time before the SA tour. Sharma had scored his ODI double century against Australia and was being billed as the next Viv Richards in world cricket. Come SA and Dale Steyn and the same Rohit Sharma couldn't touch the ball in the first 3 overs of the 1st ODI, a scene I'll never ever forget. That was easily the most pathetic display of opening batsmanship I had seen in my life. Let's see if he's developed even a bit on that front or is he just an even bigger FTB than he was in late 2013.

Thanks for encouraging words, so what should he not score a run where he is able to score. Learn to appreciate when he scores, you can criticize him when he fails, but today he is scoring so its your pure hatred towards him.

He is going to get to 200 soon in T20. Usually batsmen get tired after 100 runs This guy looks fresher and fresher once he gets to 100. That is why he is able to do that.

Yeah, pardon me for not going gaga over a T20 innings on the flattest pitch in the history of cricket against freaking Sri Lanka. And this is how FTBs like Sharma become demi gods while players like Pujara are less than even afterthoughts even though they perform in 100x tougher conditions home or away than what Sharma has been getting to perform in in the previous few years. I'll rate Pujara's 28(117) on a Lords green track which helped India get through the new ball on way to a famous win in 2014 over 99% of Rohit Sharma's slamathons in India.

I have seen Dale Steyn been trashed .. Does that make him an ordinary bowler .. Everyone has an off day .. I have not seen such hitting by any batsman just playing pure cricketing shots

Well I rate Ishant's defense against Austarlia awhen he came at 135 for 8 to help INdia win over Sachin's poor innings against Harris in SA. So Ishant must be greater than Sachin. Funny logic.

Bro, I am not fan of T20s either, but criticizing a player even when he scores, what's that???

At least pardon Rohit on a day like this.

No matter how flat the pitch is, no matter how mediocre the bowling is, it’s not easy to hit sixes the way Rohit does.

Most T20’s are played on super flat pitches. If hitting sixes was this easy, many batsmen would have done what Rohit does. But you don’t see this happening everyday.

Some batsmen are gifted. Like Gayle, ABD, Evin Lewis, Warner and Rohit. They can bat like Gods out there when they are in the zone.

THere is a good chance Rohit sharma can do what Pujara does. Lot of tailenders have blocked and survived tough sessions. There is no way in hell Pujara can even remotely close to repeating what Rohit did.

Everyone failed in odi series pitches were green. No doubt every current will struggle against attack. If pitches are similar now (which i doubt) then you can see every batsman failing once again even with their experience.

I swear, If he hadn't been interrupted by the breaks and lost his concentration, we would''ve witnessed first double century of T20s. Given there were 8 overs left for him to feast upon.

Once again FTB at it's best! Damn srilankan bowlers are really awful and less said about the pitches is better!

This 1000 times.

All this rubbish about tough conditions. Whatever the condition, only 5 or 6 players will ever be able to replicate Rohit's scoring in good conditions.

And since 60-70% of cricket is actually played in good conditions I don't see why that's a knock.

60-70%? I would say 90 - 92% in good batting conditions.

When on song, no body can bat like him (that includes AB and Kohli)!

Beast! :afridi
No one ca match AB . He can smack from ball 1 which rohit cant. 149(44),162(66). Kohli is no way near ab and rohit. Ab can score fast against any opposition. Rohit plays slow against top bowlers . AB can never play a inn like rohit played in ct 1st match.

Can AB do as an opener?

Agree with rest of the post except the Bold. Do you mean AB cannot score 200 runs in 100 Balls in an ODI? I think AB bats too low to be able to play 100 balls on a consistent basis.

He can do. But in most of the matches someone like Amla or De Kock set the plat form for him to launch the attack. In Rohit's case he has to set the platform and he has to attack as well.

If he gets a chance as an opner. Rohit has a lot of match losing knocks due to slow sr. His 171 off 163 vs aus . Smith scored 149 off 135 on the same pich. His 150 vs ind . His 121 vs aus.
Warner is the best opner in the world though

What stops him from opening?

Both 149 and 162 were against west indies which has similar attack to srilanka. I don't think ab can do same against good quality attack nor rohit can do it.

Ab has 119 off 60 vs ind. Fastest test 100 by sa batsman against ind. 136 off 100 vs australia.

I am assuming all other non Indian batters scored tons in SA easily. The scores of 47, 51 ,48 seems to suggest differently but that part can be ignored right.
I wonder sometimes which batter scores consistently in all part of world...green or spin or flat track.
Perhaps you might have few names to suggest?

Yeah that innings can only be played by ab not rohit (as he is slow starter) also I was talking about mad hitting like he did against west indies or rohit did today. (Both can't do against quality attack though ab can do with better strike rate than rohit can)

Nobody questions the ability of AB to attack. He can do better than almost anyone on the planet. But his role is not comparable to an opener role where they have to occasionally deal with new ball that is doing a bit and good bowlers.

I cannot believe what I'm reading on this thread. The bitterness is incredible.

Pakistan T20 cricket has produced only 1 ever T20 century....Shehzad against Bangladesh!

Scoring a T20 century, no less the fastest in T20I history is a fantastic achievement, no matter what the opposition.

Sharma is a beast when on form.

Weird thing is Pakistanis seem appreciative aside from the usual trolls. It is some supposed Indians themselves who are bringing up his failures on green tracks rather than an appreciating a tremendous knock. Like is there even a true green track around anymore in ODI or T20 aside from odd ones here and there?

Was just wondering what excuses will these posters come out with if rohit goes all guns blazing in SouthAfrica.

Yet Sharmaji is bashed and not rated by people but expect Azam to get appreciated highly by scoring hundreds against Lanka and WI.

Everybody knows this guy is a LOI talent of the decade. He can score runs like crazy for an extended period of time, you either have batsmen who hit big for 30-70 runs and then get out or silent accumulators who get to 100 or whatever at around a run a ball or be pushing a SR of 120. He can get to big scores with just clean hits.

People call him Hitman but he's bit of a Bruce Banner given how he turns from a meditating monk into a pure smashing machine in no time. You just can't tell he's that guy by seeing him at once lol.

Took off early from work for a personal reason and happened to watch this bloke bat. Man-o-Man, that was some good clean hitting with some incredible shots.

We will have to wait for Junaids to answer that :)

That guy is over the moon after watching all those quality runs scored by Root and Cook. On top of that he saw wonderful bowling by Englishman which has left him dumbfounded he is currently recouping after all that excitement and will be back to celebrate next big Indian loss or devalue any achievement from India

He's honestly ridiculous against Sri Lanka, poor guys are probably traumatized by him

Still don't rate him. A huge FTB

Flat pitch is not supposed to have decent bounce as well. He has done well in Australia. Even batted well against in his debut series against OZ against red hot Brett Lee who as at peak of his powers. We are confusing between true wicket and flat wicket. Unless there is exaggerated movement he will hold his own. Again who can belt the ball around when there is exaggerated movement. Probably none.

Rohit Sharma: 108 out of his 118 runs today were scored in 4s or 6s

91.53 percent of Rohit's runs today (108/118) were scored in boundary shots. Has any other centurion ever scored a higher percent of his 100+ innings in 4s or 6s, in any international format (Test, ODI, T20)?

Rohit is still no Sehwag, but in zone he is good, sadly that zone is very rare and not much in ICC tournaments.

Found one better than in terms of balls. Afridi 102 runs 94 runs came in 4s and 6s. Against India. He also did once where he made 89 runs out of 101 runs in fours and sixes.

Flat track or not it was an epic innings. Could have definitely gone on to make 150+ had he batted the full 20 overs!

IT is no surprise Afridi would have such knocks as i never recall Afridi taking quick singles lol

Sehwag did that in Tests that too against Murali lol. 284 runs in less than a day at Wankhede. That was breathless knock.

jnaveen1980, great work coming up with the stats of other batsmen who have high percent of their century in 4s and 6s.

jeetu, great job collecting these stats. Very well organized! Surprisingly, I dont see Afidi listed here. Someone commented earlier that he had one or two 100+ scores with even higher percent of 4s and 6s.

Lala is a Legend.

He has done it in ODIs while above listening is for T20Is.

Tour of SA:

Innings: 14
Runs: 280
Average 20
50+ scores : 1

I think we got our answer. Best opener in the world folks.

So which is more important - Home matches or Away ? I dare you to answer that question CLEARLY ... instead of bolting from the thread like you normally do when confronted :91:

I dare you to answer who is the better Test batsman - Rohit Sharma or Ajinkya Rahane.. CLEARLY.

I will ONLY if you answer my question CLEARLY without being evasive which you are trying already. ( And if memory serves me right I have already answered this question elsewhere). So which is it ? Home or Away ? ( Looks like bolt ) :91:
