India are now ranked the no.1 team in the world after the rankings up date!

After a stunning effort from Sri lanka to beat Australia, India are now the no.1 team in the world.

It was hard work! here's a list of India's Test Series results over the last two years

West Indies in India Test Series

2013/14 India 2-0 (2)

India in South Africa Test Series

2013/14 South Africa 1-0 (2)

India in New Zealand Test Series

So the 3 tough series they lost, otherwise just bullying teams at home as usual, nothing really to congratulate or applaud here.

India was ranked number 1 just few months back before Australia claimed it, IIRC.
 
Its going to be a long stint at the top in my opinion

I think they can stay on top for 18 months or so
 
well done i guess but this number 1 ranking feels so hollow considering how pathetic they have been away from home. pakistan just feels like the best team in the world now.

Definitely, their results in the past 2 years indicate that the best is yet to come and it is important personally to congratulate our neighbours in these tense times when I've been called all kinds of names lately! like The Parosi Slayer or The Rabid Teddy Bear quiet uncalled for to be honest because I only deal with the TRUTH.

I agree Pakistan is better at the moment. But once your tours to AUS, SA starts, you guys will be bullied as usual.

Pakistan got whitewashed last 3 times in Aus. Yet to even draw a series in SA. Yet to win in freaking WI. Last won in Eng in 1996. How is it any better than India who won in ENG in 2007, wins for fun in WI, drawn in AUS/ SA in last 10 years, etc....

It's still something be proud of being the no.1 team is no joke and Indians have made that very clear to so fair play to them and I'd like to congratulate them

That would be a shame, but it is important we allow them to enjoy their time in the sun after the hard work they have done over the last two years
 
South Africa slip to number 7. It's unfair on them to lose ranking points because of a drawn series against Bangladesh. The whole series was rained out. Countries going to Bangladesh should refuse to play during the monsoon weather as they are only going to lose ranking points.
 
India have a lot of home games coming up soon and they will hold on that number one ranking for a while so they should show they have big hearts too by letting the Windies win this next test. :afridi
 
Pak deserves it.

But that doesn't mean India would give it up with ease.

In this whole drama....if somehow India loses to WI, many PPers would go mad with joy and maybe die. :)))

I am keeping my hopes low.
 
India will remain near top of rankings until they actually grow a pair of balls and stop hiding from playing pakistan, only time they wanted to play test cricket against us was in mid 2000s when they knew we were a pretty average side. Now india would get hammered in UAE or india.

You couldnt even beat england in last two series you have played them! lost both home and away! thats shameful! at same time we smashed england in UAE and drew... i love how the odd one of decent away series from india and you make out as though India is some sort of great team.

So india won a series in england well done! pakistan didnt lose a series in england between 1987 up until 2006! stats can be spun which ever way to want them to reveal your point of view,

Heres the facts... India continue to make coward like excuses to play pakistan! why because they know they will lose!

I am not sure but i think it would be the 90s. However, the reason behind this is inconsistency.

That being said one thing is for sure, India has remained under our jooti for major part of their history in terms of ranking and head 2 head. Pretty much satisfied with what we have. ;)

Yes we lost to England in India and away . You guys at the same time got whitewashed in SA, lost a test to ZIM of all people. Drw with NZ at home and WI away. We beat WI twice and almost whitewashed everybody at home (except for ENG), drew 1 and lost 0-1 to SA.

Fact is, we have comparable stst for both teams. You guys are behaving like world beaters after drawing in ENGLAND and opening India bashing threads like there is no tomorrow.

And regarding series against Pakistan, as cricket fans most Indians would love to see us play a full test series. Not 1.2 billion Indians are all BCCI lols.... :msd That is a political matter and not in my hands. By the way, off late, Pakistan has lost more matches to India than won (last 10-15 years), so don't know what cowardice you are talking about.

Last test we played, INDIA WON

Not really official though as the test rankings were introduced in 2003. Pakistan's #1 ranking was only a retroactive one.

Interesting to note that that retroactive #1 ranking in 1988 was achieved with a rating of 110.

The current Pakistan team has a test rating of 111 :misbah :yk

A well deserved no.1 ranking to India. Hopefully, we will stay at no.1 for a long time and not pass the no.1 spot again to Eng, SA or Aus( the four teams who have had their share on the no.1 test ranking in last 7-8 years).

That part aside...why your so called legendary phaast bowlers feast on opposition batsman to take your team to rank 1? Test cricket is win by bowling afyer all.

Aw man, by mentioning 2003 you have put a damper on Indian fans and their chest beating which like everything only lasts for a short while.

Pakistan team in odis have a great record vs India in meaningless low pressure bilaterals while their record gets crashed in WC games by 0-11 against India when it matters. Clearly, they are very similar to the great Hashim Amla from South Africa who has piled on runs for fun in meaningless bilaterals but goes missing in WC games.

Batting - No 10K run scorer
Bowling - No 500+ wicket taking bowler
Team - Never got no.1 ranking

Since 2003, three times. Nov 2009-Aug 2011, Jan-Feb 2016 and then today.

If you want to count the 1988 top spot for Imran's Pakistan team then you have to add the times that India was ranked #1 in the retroactive/historical rankings. Once in the 70s, once in the 80s and once in the 90s.

So counting the historical rankings from 1952 to the present day, India have held the top spot for a total of 46 months, Pakistan held it for two months.

Officially, they've held the #1 ranking for a total of 22 months since 2003.

Times is less relevant, how long is more relevant. Right now, India or even Pakistan can get to rank 1, but maintaining it for 1-2 years is harder.

Most england fans on social media and newspapers were surprised that India were playing a 5 match series in england
.
They wanted it cut short so Pakistan could have more matches in 2018 .LOL.

Cant blame them i guess after the spineless performances India have put up in that country.

Yup, Pak have indeed earned their 2nd position by continuiusly drawing tests in UAE phattas and I wholeheartedly congratulate u guys for this great achievement :afridi


But u should agree that we r the best, right? Just one test series at home and we r back to our usual position in ICC test rankings :uakmal

This is totally unfair. How can any team be no. 1 without drawing a series 2-2 with Eng in Eng? Bahut na-insaafi hai :))
 
India should give up their NO.1 ranking until they draw 2-2 against England in England.

Any team which does not draw a series in England has no right to be called No.1

Congratulations to our beloved neighbours.

They deserve it just as much as any other team at the moment.

Having said that - the next Ind-WI game is vital to see who goes to number 1!!

We really need a Test championship or something. I know its something cricket fans around the world have said for years, and these rankings are ok (at best- however, there really needs to be something more solid and definitive when it comes to Test cricket.

OK, banter aside. Pakistan's drawn series is a very good achievement for them - in foreign conditions and against a better opponent. If you ask me, they deserve to be #1 slightly more than India at the moment.

But its not like they are soooo much better than India to justify some of the chest-beating on here. India have accumulated ranking points with a string of consistent results.

Too bad that politics and reality are in the way, because from a pure cricket perspective, it would be a very interesting series between India Pakistan, even without the historic rivalry. Very well matched teams with a variety of strengths. Both teams are on the ascendant. Some young players like Shafiq, Aslam, Azhar coming through for Pak - Rahul, Rahane, Bhuvi and Shami for India.

I think there is a plan in the works for that Test Championship, it has been delayed but will definitely happen and it will be in England to!
