What's new

Congratulations to India on achieving the No. 1 ranking in Test cricket!

England is ranked well below pakistan in tests, hence Pakistan winning the series against Eng 3-2 will not be enough, they will have to win some more before moving to No 1,however on current batting form,Pakistan is a better team than any of the teams around in tests

I think there is a plan in the works for that Test Championship, it has been delayed but will definitely happen and it will be in England to!

Yea its been in the pipeline for years.

Initailly the final was meant to be held next year but now I think it's been pushed back for the 78th time and will be held in 2062 :inzi

India will remain near top of rankings until they actually grow a pair of balls and stop hiding from playing pakistan, only time they wanted to play test cricket against us was in mid 2000s when they knew we were a pretty average side. Now india would get hammered in UAE or india.

Played quite regularly from 1999 to 2007 ... pretty sure those sides were much better than the current one. I know for a fact that there were similar peurile bravado hurled around calling India as lacking guts to play Pakistan ... Really ?? How did that Jeet-Lo-Dill Series turn out ? I recall 2 matches being won by an Inngs.

Congrats to Team India. For me Test ranking is more significant than LOI. It would be interesting to see Pakistan vs India at a Neutral ground preferebly england

:))) :)))

Well played shaz619.

Can't believe so many posters here didn't see what Shazzy bear did in the OP :))

Besides, we'll be taking it back in a week's time anyway :afridi

India are now ranked the no.1 team in the world after the rankings up date!

After a stunning effort from Sri lanka to beat Australia, India are now the no.1 team in the world.

It was hard work! here's a list of India's Test Series results over the last two years

West Indies in India Test Series

2013/14 India 2-0 (2)

India in South Africa Test Series

2013/14 South Africa 1-0 (2)

India in New Zealand Test Series

2013/14 New Zealand 1-0 (2)

India in England

2014 England 3-1 (5)

India in Australia

2014/15 Australia 2-0 (4)

India in Bangladesh Test Match

2015 drawn 0-0 (1)

India in Sri Lanka Test Series

2015 India 2-1 (3)

South Africa in India

2015/16 India 3-0 (4)

Damn. This record is nothing to be proud of for India. They lost 4 overseas series. How the hell they get #1 ranking with this bad record?

Also were we "Afraid" to Play Pak IN Pak back in 1989 and 1997 ? :))
Don't know but considering you lost to us in India and India's terrible record outside India then it is safe to assume Pak would have won(lost 2 matches and won 1 in India against us in 99)

They beat #1 SA which gets them a lot of points as they were #5 then

If West Indies beats India this last match they will get a lot of points and India will drop to 3rd I think sue to just one match

I don't care people dissecting how we got to NO1 as long as we are No 1 :)

We didn't steal or cheat....we played, won and we got it

Haterz gonna Hate

On Topic if rain plays spoil sport and the next test is a draw,Pak will be No.1 and you won't see Indian fans cry foul about that...it is what it is

Just FYI....This series was a draw :)) You guys played well but let's not get ahead of ourselves....good achievement that's about it

Pak has not won/drew a series in Aus and SA in like ever...India been there done that.

Pak haven't won a series against England since 1996-India Last won a series in 2007

no man you should be ashamed for getting #1 ranking like this; it feels like you did not earn it and someone give it to you as a charity; getting charity is nothing to be proud of

Of course it will feel like this if you are a Pakistani supporter. And that's what makes this no 1 ranking even sweeter.

Here is some more fat in the fire. Lots of Pakistan's points were acquired against Bangladesh!!!

Hopefully WI finally turn up then and set the record straight.

But then again they are hopeless at this format.

According to Kohli, being short term no 1 because some other team won or lost should not count. Its a small incentive but not the big picture. He said to be true no 1, you have to have sustained wins everywhere over 3-4 years. - This is on Ten Sports interview

The deserving ones are those who stay there for at least an year or two. India were deservingly no.1 between 2009-11 and then England took away the no.1 spot and then SA stayed there with Aus hitting the top spot in btw.

Congrats to India indeed :yk they still hold the mace I believe

I think we will be back to 4/5 after couple of away tours. There is only one batsman(Kohli) and one bowler(Ashwin) in indian team. If they fail we are going to lose.

:)))

Shame that a nation with a population of 1.2 billion can't even win at home. LOL at the Motorway King's performance :)))

Yup mate, u r absolutely spot on. Shame on India for losing to Australia at home after 12 years, shame on them for losing a test after remaining unbeaten for 19 tests. :srini

Anyway, Pakistan is comparatively doing much better and they r in a fantastic position at the moment. Good luck to Pakistan in their upcoming qualifying matches against Nepal, Netherlands and Ireland. :uakmal

So much relief around the cricketing world after this win from AUS, reminded me of days in Mid 2000s when Ind did well against that ATG Aus team, people used to appreciate and Booed Aussies all over the World. Times have changed :)

shaz619 This also puts the ATG Ashwin's performances in perspective. Imagine if SOK got to play as many games as Ashwin on these Indian pitches! :)))

I like how Hasan is joining in the bants :))) usually he's always wondering about across the border, he's the pigeon which got brainwashed but then managed to escape :yk

Very true RD, even on a rank turner he couldn't do the job; it seems to me he has taken a lot of lucky wickets :afridi which benefited from India winning the toss, on top of that he does have a clean action but intentionally chucks here and there, too bad it didn't help him here :yk3

I am a kohli fan but not an India fan lol. Plus after Pakistan Australia are my favourite team so course I am happy they won.

:))) This humiliation which AUS have caused is the equivalent of losing some games to Hong Kong, even BD can beat them at home and you know what Pak did to them in the UAE; this 1 win over India in India is like winning 10 Test matches for a touring team in the subcontinent which isn't SL or Pak. Quiet frankly the ICC should question India's test status at the next meeting, besides Afghanistan and Ireland have shown some promise so no issue in relegating a team which is starting to get back to minnow status the other teams will be great investments.

O'Keefe isn't even a real cricketer, he's just someone they happened to select when there were no options; he is the AUS Janitor, given the dearth of good spin options they were like "fancy a bowl mate" and he was like why not! :yk2 India have been exposed and lead to minnow status like decline by a Janitor :)))

Drawing a match in WI after having over a day washed out is certainly far better than losing against them in the so called "fortress" UAE.

We'll see just how well Pakistan do in WI very soon.

it takes a particularly brave person to troll based on the last loss given that your team has lost test matches to NZ and the mighty WI (in the UAE )in the recent past ...

Remember this : http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/742615.html

Conceeding nearly 700 runs to NZ and losing by an inngs :))

OK and?

Pulling absolutely random stuff out from 3 years back?

Well, here's how you guys fared at HOME against England, who we absolutely demolished when they came to our Fortress:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-england-2012/engine/match/565808.html

While we lost individual games 2 years apart, you lot lost the entire series on your phattas WITH your Tendu, as well as Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi, Dhoni, Kohli, and all your lejunds :)))

Take note of this please shaz619

Excellent point, Jobber Tusker owned by Square Drive :)))

This team can't defeat an AUS side that just cannot play in the subcontinent, for an alleged no.1 ranked team this is the most humiliating stat of all; even in the past this overrated Indian team were destroyed by England, they've only even been no.1 by name only.

Nah, you guys are a quality team. Shami, Rahane and Vijay are all good players too. #4 would be a fitting rank and that's not bad at all.

Difference being that we did not lose on doctored pitches that we pressured the curator to prepare. Also, we haven't lost a single series in the UAE ever since it became our permanent home while you guys are heading to your second series defeat if O'Keefe gets his way.

India is the most disgraceful team to ever hold the no.1 ranking, in fact it is an insult to have a ranking when you award them the no.1, they've never earned the mace on any level at any point in time and tend to get a big bump in rating due to various home wins and even then, they do not maintain an undefeated streak in Test Series as we saw when England beat them and now AUS who are basically a minnow in asia have defeated them in a Test

For God's sake, at least whitewash a team (on your doctored pitches) that FREAKING SL just whopped 3-0 in their den not too long ago!

Job well done shaz619 :yk3

The truth is very bitter, on a level people give that team waaaaaay tooo much credit. I have provided intricate, in depth and insightful facts into why India are overrated:

E.g:

England beat India in India

Asia minnow AUS win a Test match vs India in India

My friend, why are people not able to comprehend this information I have enlightened the masses with? especially when this no.1 rank has been advocated on the basis of their home dominance and don't even get me started on their away run but folk get defensive when the TRUTH has been spoken

We were pretty equal over there so no point.

Pakistan got whitewashed comprehensively in both series while India competed very well (drew two tests in Australia, and came very close to winning one in both countries).

This is minnow thinking. Pakistan and India both got whitewashed in New Zealand. In Australia, you got beat 2:0 and we got beat 3:0. Like I said, pretty even.

In England, we vastly outplayed you.

No, India actually competed in those series. Losing 2-0 in a 4 match series is the same as losing 3-0 in a 3 match series?

In their respective series,

I reiterate: India got whitewashed, Pakistan got whitewashed; India got beaten 2:0, Pakistan got beaten 3:0. In England, Pakistan showed India how it's really done.

You can go argue with the Bangladeshi and Zimbabwean posters about which of your teams were the best losers. I for one do not subscribe to this minnow mentality.

Both India and Pakistan are minnows in foreign conditions, haven't won a single series in South Africa or Australia in their entire history.

South Africa and Australia have won 2 series together in India in the last 47 years. That is not a great record either.

India have never won a series in two countries, Australia and South Africa. Neither have Pakistan. Australia and SA have both won series in Pakistan and India. There is no way to spin this to make it seem comparable.

Winning 1 series over almost 50 years isn't much better than not winning any series IMO.

Both SA and Australia have done much better in India than vice versa. The W/L ratio difference is massive . Also, winning one series is better than zero.

So just in case logic and sense are allowed into this conversation that NZ series was the last time NZ played in your backyard and humiliated Pak ... which I suppose is what has gotten you and your buddy all excited as the last few months must have been really depressing seeing our team hammer NZ and Eng no matter what score they put. The Eng series you quoted is not the latest series between the 2 teams. But then again Iam pretty sure this is asking for too much

Yep I agree we probably should have lost a Test to WI at home and never should have won any series in WI. Without such magnificent achievements the No.1 ranking is meaningless.

Talking about Home performances .... ( i.e India in India and Pak in UAE ). And even otherwise India's recent record in NZ and Aus is far better than Pakistan's.

Pakistan have never lost a series in UAE,while India has lost in India. So still Pakistan better.

You can bring up stats about my team from 3 years back, but when I do the same for you lot from a series 5 years ago, you got all hurt huh?

Don't talk about England because you lot got your backs handed the last few times you went there. We not only whooped them at home, but actually went in their den and won 2 Tests.

Stop hyping up your sig and changing the topic, when the thread is clearly about Test cricket. Typical Indian thing to do. If you really want to bring in other formats, you want me to remind you of our H2H record?

Do you not understand the concept of recent wins ? The NZ series in 2014 was the last one by NZ to UAE. I know its hard for you but give a honest try.

So in your la la land only wins against Eng decide which is a better team ?

Despite this loss we have still a far better record vs Aus in the last 10 yrs:

Recent? 2014 is recent but 2012 is not? The double standards are actually too obvious here.

LOL you're the one who brought up England. Do you have the memory of a goldfish, or are you just incompetent?

Now bringing up records in Australia just to make your joke of a cricket team look less hideous. :)))

The WI loss happened but so did your loss against Australia in your own den, that too against O'Keefe. :lol

Dodging, changing the subject etc. That's when you know you're arguing with an Indian.
