Congrats to KP - they were deserving winners.

They had many good performers - the top run-scorer (Fakhar Zaman) and top wicket-taker (Shaheen Afridi) were in the team so they clearly had some of the best performers.

All of these awards make sense apart from the fielding team award. Overall Northern had a better fielding side so I felt they deserved this award.

The picture in which Rizwan has the Champions award should have a caption contest. The picture can have pretty funny captions. If you feel so too, please add it for a bit of fun.

Hopefully guys like Hafeez and Malik give up on their part of the prize money so the other players can take some decent cash by Pakistan standards.

Their key players like Hafeez, Fakhar, Rizwan and Shaheen all performed. The others chipped in also and above all they were well led by a very good skipper.

Deserving winners.

Yes, but they had an unfair advantage. They were given international T20 players. Opening. Middle order. Bowlers.

No other team was so stacked.

Northern Team was pretty stacked up as well but they lost. Give Rizwan a credit, he was a better captain than rest of them

It is a regional tournament with players representing their regions barring 3 or 4 that can be selected from other regions, how is it unfair if a lot of those guys play for Pakistan?

There was a time Peshawar had no real star players and Lahore/Karachi had all the internationals, nobody ever complained back then about unbalanced sides or how everthing was unfair?

In theory, Khushdil and Haider Ali not being in Khyber made them even weaker, they both walked into the batting lineup

Give another credit for playing every single member of thier squad and also seniors were rested

Lets dissect this further

Rizwan - Made fun of for lack of power game, people want him replaced by Sarfaraz, Zeeshan, Azam, Rohail
Fakhar - Gets called a hack that can only score vs Zimbabwe
Imran Khan - gets called a trundler not highly rated at all
Shiwari - people mock the guy, replace the shin in his name with another four letter word and make memes about how much runs he goes for
Junaid Khan - Gets called a chucker, people say he is finished
Iftikhar - Mockingly gets called chacha ifti and a parchi
Malik and Hafeez - Two selfish seniors who every wants to retire and stop taking others spots

Nobody had heard or seen much of Asif Afridi, Muhammad Haris was unproven along with Arshad Iqbal while nobody here cares much about Zohaib Khan or Musadiq Ahmed

Please tell me how a team whose majority players are criticised gives them an unfair advantage?

To see shoaib Malik and ikhtikhar picking up the trophy without contributing anything is so sad.

Not true, he has had his batting position chopped and changed all tournament, he has provided plenty of fire power down the innings for Khyber, played a few very useful quick 40 and 30s to propel the team to good scores in the group matches they won

Yes he did get quicks 40s when the game was set and could hit from ball one without any preesure

Be ready to get haunted for next couple of years.
For once I wanted Fakhar and shaheen to fail. and then we would have seen what have this team full of old men would have done.

100 percent they only won it bexouse shaheen literally outbowled everyone

I wanted the underdogs SP to win as I have a soft spot for teams that come back from the dead to win. But even then they stretched it to the end and can hold their heads high for over achieving with such a raddi bowling attack

On the other hand kp has been proving to be very successful in the PSL and now the national T20. If these teams are run and managed along psl lines, it will completely transform our domestic cricket for the better

They had Shaheen. Hafeez who is an international player. Shinwari is an international as well.

It's totally unfair.

A statistical review of National T20 Cup

Rawalpindi, 19 October 2020:

Enthralling cricket action in the just-concluded National T20 Cup First XI tournament had fans and followers of the game glued to their TV and mobile screens.

Numerous interesting numbers came up and records were made over the course of the 33-match tournament that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won by defeating Southern Punjab by 10 runs in the final.

Mazher Arshad provides a statistical review of the tournament.

The highest scoring T20 event in Pakistan

The overall run-rate in National T20 Cup 2020 this year was 8.93 making it the highest scoring T20 tournament in Pakistan. The National T20 Cups in 2017 and 2019 both recorded 8.34, the previous highest figure.

In 33 matches this year, there were 15 totals of 200-plus, including 206-4 by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the final against Southern Punjab.

It was only the second time that the 200-barrier was crossed in the final of a National T20 Cup. The first such instance being in 2010 when Lahore Lions posted 221 for three against Karachi Dolphins at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The run-rate this year in all T20s played in Pakistan, including a T20I series involving Bangladesh, the MCC tour, PSL and the National T20 Cup has been 8.72 – the highest ever in a calendar year.

The previous best year in Pakistan in terms of scoring rate was 2019, when the run-rate was 8.46.

Best Batsman and Best Bowler

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Fakhar Zaman, with 420 runs, and Shaheen Afridi, with 20 wickets, were tournament’s best batsman and bowler.

Fakhar’s tally of 420 runs is the second highest in one edition of the National T20 Cup and only 12 behind Kamran Akmal, who accumulated 432 runs for Lahore Whites in the 2017 edition.

Fakhar scored five fifties, including 67 off 40 balls in the final.

Shaheen’s 20 scalps are joint-most along with Saeed Ajmal, who took 20 wickets in the 2016 edition. No fast bowler before Shaheen had taken this many wickets in a single edition of the tournament.

The left-arm quick took 13 wickets in the power-play overs, which is by far the most by any bowler. He struck in his opening spell in nine out of 10 games.

There is no bowler in the world who has more T20 wickets than Shaheen (44) this year.

The fastest hundred

There were some extraordinary performances from the young talented cricketers in the National T20 Cup for First XIs.

One of the highlights of the tournament was Khushdil Shah’s 100 off 35 balls for Southern Punjab in a 217-run chase against Sindh. It went down as the fastest T20 hundred scored by a batsman from Pakistan, beating Ahmed Shehzad’s 40-ball effort for Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2012.

The previous fastest 100 recorded on Pakistan soil was Bilal Asif’s 43-ball century on T20 debut for Sialkot Stallions against Abbottabad Falcons in Faisalabad in 2015.

Only four batsmen in the world – Andrew Symonds (34 balls), Wihan Lubbe (33), Rishabh Pant (32) and Chris Gayle (30) – have scored a century in fewer balls in T20 cricket than Khushdil.

Big-hits galore

Khushdil’s strike-rate in the tournament was 177.45 – the highest among batsmen with at least 200 runs.

His 25 sixes were the most by any batsman.

The tournament had nine batsmen, the most in any edition of National T20 Cup, who scored more than 200 runs at a strike-rate of 150-plus.

Prior to this tournament, the maximum number of batsmen with 200-plus runs and 150-plus strike-rate in one edition of National T20 Cup was only four (in three different tournaments in 2005, 2015 and 2017).

Second fastest scoring innings

In the last group match, Southern Punjab needed to chase 162 in 12.3 overs against Balochistan to quality for the semi-finals.

They ended the innings with 166 for three in 10.4 overs at a run-rate of 15.56, the second highest in T20 history where at least ten overs were bowled.

Brisbane Heat (15.80) is the only team that has maintained a higher run-rate in a T20 innings of more than 10 overs. Akin to Southern Punjab, Heat were also playing for a better run-rate when they put 158 for none in 10 overs against Melbourne Stars in Big Bash League in 2019.

They had Shaheen. Hafeez who is an international player. Shinwari is an international as well.

It's totally unfair.

The players are playing for their home province barring, Hafeez, Shoaib and Wahab

Absolutely nothing unfair about it at all. It should be a purely regional tournament. The older format was good too with Abbotobad and FATA in it. It gave more players a chance too and allowed players from lesser regions to showcase their talent.

They have just streamlined it now.

PCB delighted with successful delivery of National T20 Cup under Covid-19 protocols

• Wasim Khan credits players, officials, fans and media for the brand-building of the domestic tournament

• The PCB produced live pictures, while PTV Sports, as part of a three-year agreement, broadcasted the PKR9million tournament; live-streaming was in HD, which was available on the PCB YouTube channel

Lahore, 20 October 2020:

Pakistan Cricket Board has said it has once again demonstrated its operational capacity and capability by delivering a safe, healthy and successful National T20 Cup that enabled the elite and leading domestic cricketers to display their best performances in one of the most followed and discussed domestic cricket events ever.

Mohammad Rizwan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won the 33-match National T20 Cup, which spread over 19 days and was staged in Multan and Rawalpindi under strict and unprecedented bio-secure protocols. Under the new points system, which was based around most effective and useful player in his team’s cause, Fakhar Zaman was adjudged the player and best batsman of the tournament, while other winners included Shaheen Shah Afridi (best bowler) and Mohammad Rizwan (best wicketkeeper).

This was the opening event of the 2020-21 domestic season with the first round matches of the three-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy presently being played in Karachi, which will also host the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first-class matches from Sunday, 25 October.

PCB chief executive Wasim Khan: “The National T20 Cup truly reflected the professionalism of the PCB medical staff and officials of the National High Performance Centre, who collectively created an environment that allowed the players to return to competitive cricket but also produce their best performances in a 19-day tournament across Multan and Rawalpindi.

“We maintained a proactive approach right from the outset of our planning. All our departments were aligned and contributed to the effective delivery of the competition. Our goal is to become one of most respected cricket boards in the world, and to do that, we must continue to demand high standards in all that we do.

“I want to thank the players and officials for committing to work with us during these testing times. Despite the odd bio-secure blip away from the ground, the players maintained their discipline and observed protocols.

“I have stated previously that cricket and covid will need to coexist for a period of time. This event has shown us that if we provide the right environment, we can continue to bring joy to our fans by ensuring that the game continues.”

Bio-secure bubbles were created in five-star hotels, while other salient features included road travel in sterilised luxury buses and game rooms in team hotels. The on-ground provisions included sterilised players’ changing rooms along with dressed up venues, besides quality pitches.

Wasim Khan said the fans and media deserved the credit for the brand-building of the National T20 Cup.

“I want to whole-heartedly thank the cricket fans and supporters, both within and outside Pakistan, as well as the media for their significant contribution in the brand-building of this National T20 Cup. The social media engagement and traction, as well as the coverage on television and in the print media was impressive, positive, impactful and greater than any other domestic cricket event we have run.

“The eyeballs that followed live coverage of the National T20 Cup on PTV Sports were also overwhelming and encouraging, confirming the value cricket holds in this proud, lively and sporting country. I also thank our respected commentators and commercial partners, who played their part in lifting the profile of this tournament.

“For the first time, content from our domestic event was used by international media outlets and the game’s governing body, which was heart-warming. These provided further impetus to our ambitions of popularising and promoting our domestic cricket in an effort to make it meaningful, purposeful and attractive.

“These factors clearly illustrate that if all the stakeholders pull in one direction, then our reputation and credibility as a nation will only continue to be enhanced around the world.”

That's excellent news for Pakistan.

However they have to make sure the international stars are allocated to all spread across all teams to ensure the league remains competitive.

Imagine if Babar and Shaheen are from one state then it's a huge problem for other teams to compete vs a team that has both of the bets players in the country.

i thought the cricket was of a high quality when compared to tournaments of the past. the youtube coverage was great, I even enjoyed the commentary especially the urdu commentary.

this is about creating a historical legacy culture and crating consistency around our tournaments so selectors and coaches can identify talent properly. Also so talent can feed through.

Was good to see KP win. they had a lot of senior players but at the end of the day they played the better cricket. i felt Northern messed up and should have been in the final. In most domestic tournies, the teams with the most international players tend to rise to the top. Its for other teams to level up and beat them thus increasing standards and widening the pool.

It will take time but this is a good start.

I think shaheen won them the tourament and hafeez everyone else contributed really well.

Sahibzada Farhan was a massive massive disappointment.

He is unfortunately a limited version of Ahmad Shahzad who actually has some ability to rotate strike. Sahibzada gets bogged down which highlights serious technical issues. He's great when he gets going but the team doesn't need a 7 off 14 if he is unable to find the gaps. He's changed his batting stance too which contributes to alot of that. Someone has over coached him

Thing is he's just as poor as Shehzad when it comes to rotating strike.
The only thing going for him is his striking ability which is based on form. Contrary to what you think, I think his basics are way too underdeveloped and needs a lot of coaching and practice.
