Huge difference

This is Waqar :

“We don’t need stars, we need heroes,” Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis said outside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as he headed to a ‘fact-finding meeting’ called up by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the national side’s disastrous exit from the World Twent20.

Waqar’s squad included the likes of Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik and skipper Shahid Afridi.

The four players are the 'stars' in Pakistan's current line up but it wasn't clear who Waqar was pointing at in his statement amid rumours of factions within the team.

“Pakistan cricket is facing numerous problems at present and many of those can’t be spoken about in public,” Waqar told reporters.

And Now....

A squad full of heroes!

How times have changed. No inquisition, but celebration.

Great time to be a Pak fan.

Agreed. Who would have thought this turn around was possible after the 1st Indian game?

Suddenly- Pakistan cricket looks full of talent!!

Sadly, Waqar was not a hero, but a zero when it came to coaching. Him leaving is the best thing that happened to Pakistan cricket.

In contrast, Waqar laid the foundation for this CT victory and the revitalization of Pakistan cricket. He placed an emphasis on fitness and discipline, and his scathing report before his departure as coach led to several critical changes in our cricketing structure. Not to mention that he recommended Inzamam as CS.

Afridi came in a Rolls Royce as if he had actually achieved something

The batting lineup is mostly the same as when Waqar left... the bowling was mostly the same as well barring Hasan Ali and Shadab, however Wahab had a huge bias over Junaid... it seems Azhar has found the latter to be more effective (like coach like bowler), Azhar would prefer someone who would go by his style of bowling, while Waqar would prefer pacy and aggressive bowlers...

Waqar tried the spin bowling sensation of his era that was Yasir Shah but he glaringly failed..

Pretty much 80% of the squad is the same when Waq let, question goes to Waqar then that why didn't the boys perform like this under his coaching?

Another contributing factor to that has been the fact that we have had our first full foreign assignment as a Pakisstan team in six seven years, when our players played in the toughest conditions, they didn't do that in Waqar's tenure..

Credit to Mickey then that the boys have really responded to the overseas conditions they have been exposed to specially in England, and produced 4 victories on the trot after a defeat, which is the complete opposite of our series loss vs England last year.... 4 defeats and 1 victory.

Quite a turnaround in a year, alot of credit to the coaching staff for this achievement

The problem with Waqar was, and this is coming from someone who admires his test stint along with Misbah and YK, that he was too rigid to change something that didn't work for him.

Couple all this with his Test = ODI = T20s mindset was actually the underlining reason of why we were going nowhere in LOI.

His points after the WT20 loss were on point however he had too much baggage to force any change. This is where we need a foreign pro coach as Micky who would come and arm twist PCB to fix things the correct way.

The thing that is the most important on all this is that Afridi always had the line: there is no talent in pak so I am forced to play on.....

No he didnt, all talk and no action. Terrible coach.

CT was a more consistent all round performance. In T20 our path up to the cup felt a bit shakier, and feel like we got lucky a bit (T20s often feel like that). After the first slip up against India, we looked pretty dominant, and seemed to get better each match. Don't think many people would deny we were clearly the best team in CT.

The major change was captaincy

The players were giving terrible performances even under Arthur until Sarfaraz took over
