Here people aren't complaining about lock down. People themselves were asking. The panic is, when you may become the reason that your mother or father or son or daughter may die.
I dont think even people, who were sympathizing with you till now, would agree to such attitude.

India’s tally of 536 cases and 10 deaths is dwarfed by China, Italy and Spain, but Modi and health experts have warned that the nation of 1.3 billion people faces a tidal wave of infections if harsh steps are not taken.
People in the key cities of Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru rushed to stock up after Modi decreed the shutdown in a speech televised nationwide, barely four hours before it took effect.
As states shut their borders, long queues of trucks carrying milk, fruits and vegetables snaked down highways, even though Modi said essential services would be maintained countrywide.
“There are no clear instructions, police are telling us to close down the shop,” said Ram Agarwal, a grocer in Delhi swamped by people looking to buy dry food supplies and milk.

Walmart Inc’s Flipkart has suspended services, the Indian e-commerce firm said in a notice on its website as the lockdown began. Amazon India’s pantry service, which delivers groceries, was also not available in several cities.
Anthony Thomas, a worker at a small online milk delivery service, who normally distributes 150 liters of milk and groceries in Delhi each morning, said his employer had told him to stay home.
“There is no information yet on tomorrow’s supplies,” he added.
Modi’s sweeping action aims to rein in the spread of the virus in India’s many small towns after a first wave of infections in Delhi, the capital, the commercial hub of Mumbai, and other big cities.
Cases reported from the remote parts of the western state of Maharashtra have fueled concerns about the ability of the public health system, notoriously starved of resources, to cope.
India has just 0.5 hospital beds for every 1,000 people, compared to 4.3 in China and 3.2 in Italy.
Nobody in the world’s biggest democracy will be allowed to leave home for the next three weeks, Modi said.
“Every district, every lane, every village will be under lockdown,” he said, warning that India’s development would be set back decades if it did not shut down to fight the virus.

AHEAD of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing a 21-day countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19, long queues had formed on highways of trucks carrying essential goods and commodities, including medicines, milk, fruits and vegetables, by Tuesday, hours into several states sealing borders. While goods trains fall in the exempted category, freight services too were hit as states did not mention ‘Railways’ as essential service in their respective orders.
With confusion at the lower levels about exemptions, transport even within states was hit. Big online grocers such as Grofers and Big Basket too were left scrambling to ensure sustenance of their supply chains.
Grofers CEO Albinder Dhindsa tweeted that their warehouse in Faridabad had been shut by officials, while Big Basket announced on its mobile app that they were not operational due to restrictions. A senior Big Basket official told The Indian Express police had stopped their logistics partners across the country. Amazon India said in a blog post that it was prioritising delivery of products to those needed most during the pandemic.
Online pharmacy 1mg’s co-founder Prashant Tandon reported “about 17-18 incidents” of its delivery personnel being beaten up in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Bengaluru. Freshtohome also said its personnel were being assaulted. Flipkart Supermart “delayed delivery slots due to an unforeseen increase in demand”, while fruits and vegetable suppliers on Swiggy were found “unserviceable” on Tuesday.
The Railways has informed the Cabinet Secretary about its staff, working to keep around 5,000 freight trains in operations, being stopped from reporting to duty, with all divisions affected to varying degrees. “Law enforcement agencies are telling our workers, labourers and others engaged in freight activities that all trains are cancelled so there can be no exemption for any railway worker. Then there are places where they are saying that only movement of essential commodities will be allowed, though all goods trains stand exempted as per the Union government’s instructions,” a top government official told The Indian Express.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi admitted disruption in supply of essential items. “We get rice from West Bengal, pulses from Katni and Satna in Madhya Pradesh, and mustard oil from Rajasthan. Trucks are being stopped at inter-state borders,” he told The Indian Express.
Kultaran Singh Atwal, President, All India Motor Transport Congress, said most trucks were halted at borders of Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and some states in southern India. “The government has locked everything down. Trucks are not being allowed to ply on roads… If the transport chain breaks, it poses danger to the supply of essential commodities,” he said, adding that drivers too were panicking, abandoning trucks at state borders to head to their native villages and towns. “Once they go away, it is very difficult to get them back,” he said.
The situation is further complicated because rail and air transport too is almost entirely shut down. While all-cargo flights are exempted from the government suspension of domestic flights effective Tuesday midnight, passenger aircraft account for 60% of cargo volumes handled by airlines. Without any passengers, the airlines don’t make enough earnings to make up for the costs incurred to operate flights.
At ports, shipments from COVID-19-affected countries like China and Singapore are not being offloaded due to fear of the contagion. Several ports are facing shortage of trucks due to drivers not being available.
The Grofers CEO told The Indian Express they had a backlog of over 2.6 lakh orders. In a mail to customers, Grofers Head of Customer Experience Suneet Gupta wrote, “Unfortunately, our delivery team has been held up at checkpoints and some of our warehouses have been locked by local authorities, as the situation due to Covid-19 remains very uncertain.”
Apart from Faridabad, the company saw its warehouses being shut in Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, and Haryana’s Sonepat. The Sonepat warehouse was shut Sunday and opened only Monday late night. The facility mostly caters to customers in North Delhi.
Dhindsa tweeted Tuesday, “While we understand they (officials) are doing their duty, essential items will be denied to 20,000+ households in Faridabad and Delhi every day. We need help in sorting this out.” Co-founder Saurabh Kumar also took to Twitter to talk about its trucks and delivery partners being stopped. “Our delivery executives are selflessly putting their safety at risk to ensure people stay indoors and get all their essentials at home. Then they get stopped and harassed by police and local goons,” he wrote.
Many who had ordered groceries and medicines on on Big Basket on Tuesday found no new delivery slots available until March 31.
Amazon India in its blog post said, “To serve our customers’ most urgent needs while also ensuring safety of our employees, we are temporarily prioritizing our available fulfilment and logistics capacity to serve products that are currently critical for our customers such as Household Staples, Packaged Food, Health Care, Hygiene, Personal safety and other high priority products. This also means that we have to temporarily stop taking orders and disable shipments for lower-priority products.”
According to the feedback the Railways has got, each division is affected. Not just railway functionaries but labourers engaged in loading and unloading of freight and those operating clearance trucks are also being stopped. “If in Sambhalpur division the situation is better, then in freight-heavy divisions like Waltair, it’s very bad. So, it’s everywhere,” the railway official said.
The number of freight trains being run is already lower than usual in the current demand scenario.
Grofers asked RWAs and housing societies in NCR, Kolkata and Bengaluru to collaborate for “zero touch deliveries” by creating a drop zone in their colonies.
Shan Kadavil, CEO of Freshtohome, a meat and vegetable delivery start-up, said, “We are facing huge issues. Modiji had called delivery people rajya rakshak, but unfortunately the information has not gone down to the police level. Our delivery people are getting harassed and beaten up… We have taken all the necessary approvals, but it is a massive failure at the implementation level.”
Licious, the meat and seafood company, sent out a message to customers that they could not deliver as the “latest on-ground situation is non-conducive for home delivery”.
Both Grofers and Freshtohome said they were trying to procure curfew passes to operate in Delhi.

I think the moratorium should be given on EMIs and small business loans, micro finances. All the oil money that Govt saves and saving, hope it is judiciously used now.

Some psu banks have announced lower interest loans , credit line etc . There could be few more announcements coming next few days

Nothing confirmed as yet
If stage 3 is community transmission then India is already at this phase unfortunately.
If stories of foreigners moving around freely attending malls, conferences, parties etc even though they were displaying symptoms are factual then community transmission has already started. That is unless the authorities were successful in contact tracing everyone these selfish individuals made contact with.

It’s not only called lockdown, the main purpose is achieving social distancing, rather a forced one.
Social distancing has proven to be best prevention method than any other method, be it partial lockdown, full lockdown etc..
No citizens in world are disciplined enough to do social distancing in practical sense. So this lockdown is necessary.
Cases will increase but generally stay below capacity of health care to handle.

Originally there were suppose to be more than million people in Spanish so seven days, Government cancelled it only 20 people with every precautions were there, but I agree it should have been postponed.

Most cases are categorised to 80% mild, 14% severe needing hospitalisation, 6% need life support. This is based on worldwide data.
Immune system is so amazing that with rest and isolation, mild cases recover themselves. Some with underlying cases will move into the next stage.
Now with lockdown, social distancing and isolation is achieved. Virus is not spread everywhere. Only those with symptoms will turn up at hospital and tests are done.
The countries health care starts responding effectively because it’s in their capacity.
The universal tests that you are expecting to happen is not required once movement restrictions are in place.it made sense earlier before lockdown.
Ofcourse every country has its own strategy and health professionals have decided this is best for India, and no point in comparing everything to other countries.
Low number of cases are due to low numbers of tests being carried out.
I have noticed a big difference in the content in the two threads about Coronavirus in India and Coronavirus in Pakistan. The latter has lots of data (stats) from Health Depts, Government etc being updated continuously whilst this thread has minimal data.
Not sure if this is because the data is not freely available or our Indian PPers are not posting it.

It's a combo of 3 things:
1. How much you are affected (some countries are luckier than others)
2. How early you start
3. How much you test
Contact tracing, isolation, etc applies to all.
If you start early or you aren't heavily affected, you won't need ruthless testing (tho the countries mentioned above did do aggressive testing in high risk areas).
Singapore's test per million numbers were better than even South Korea on Mar 20.

I suppose the new kits (coming from Germany) are the RT-PCR kits right? Have they arrived? What is their turnaround time? 2-3 days or 5-6 days including logistics?

Utilize these 21 days to get on top of things.
By the way, my wife's friend is in isolation ward in trichy now. Hoping she tests negative. They say her blood test is negative and have gone for throat swab or something.

ICMR is putting out all the data at covidindiaupdates.in. This includes tests per million on a daily basis. As of today, the total tests carried out stands at 22080. In terms of capacity, the labs in India can carry our 10k tests a day, or 70k a week. This number will go up since two Indian companies will be manufacturing kits within the country.

Germany has been testing 1000s a day. the UK has tested around 80k people and are now testing more than 5K a day. Spain has been testing thousands. Italy obviously. France. Belgium. I can name many others. All these countries have been aggressively testing.
How many tests have India done?
The last time i checked they had one of the lowest number of tests per million people

Would you believe that a severely densely populated country like Bangladesh has only 39 cases to data and 5 deaths. If you go by death to infected ratio from ACROSS THE WORLD, then 5 deaths would typically correspond with 200-500 infected cases. Bangladesh is operating on Allah tawaqul method and isn't even testing.

Damn, so you are disappointed by the low deaths counts? So you will not believe any number till its large enough?
And no country has tested even 1% of its population. India has tested mainly with those high risk groups, and the figure is around 2% infected so far in this early period.

India has done 20,000 + tests and govt claims we can up to 70K every week . Comparing tests per million is pointless with a country of billion population , we are never going to match Germany or Spain .
you can go on and test every person with symptoms of flu , any point of time if you assume 1% of the population has cold & fever that translates to 10 million tests ? is that even practically possible ?
India has taken this far more seriously than the west , its not just the lock down . A friend of mine left India to NJ on 22nd , was checking with him if hes been quarantined . Apparently reached home in one hour after landing , with no checking in airport . On the contrary here in India , every one whos travelled overseas is forced to quarantine , a nurse visits your house twice a day for checkups . There are even tracking down people who got away . This may still not be enough , but we have done alright so far ..hopefully people will voluntarily come out and report if they show symptoms , thats my biggest concern with our people .

Indian state governments have done tremendous job in the during Nipah and Plague epidemics. Not talking about BJP or anything here but in general india has had some great admins at state level.
In time of crisis they have always stepped up.
India has eliminated polio completely with aggressive campaign as well.
So I would worry about countries like Pakistan especially tribal areas where governments cannot still get through.
Again not a measuring contest but I have faith in Indian state (even non or anti-BJP) and fed government to be proactive on this.
So far fingers crossed have tackled this better than some European countries with a lot less population and more resources.

The doctors said the treatment was effective on the patient who was given the drugs for seven days. The result of the test of his samples conducted three days after giving him the drugs returned negative, they said.
The doctors made the disclosure of his recovery after the second test result on March 23 also turned negative.

New Delhi: E-commerce companies delivering essentials like groceries, medicines and food are facing attacks and harassment from law enforcement officials and security guards, leading to severe inconvenience in times of an unprecedented crisis, online retailers have said, calling for an urgent intervention from the government. A huge amount of fresh produce had to be thrown away because of the disruptions, they said.
K Ganesh, promoter of online platforms like BigBasket, FreshMenu and Portea Medical, said that over the last few days, policemen have abused, assaulted and in one case even arrested a delivery agent leading to huge disruption in their activities.
"Even though the government has done absolutely the right step and has been categorical in exempting essential services and have specified essential services like online delivery of goods, groceries, food, medicines and medical equipment, that message has not gone to the people down the line," Mr Ganesh told NDTV.
"The cop there does not know that it's an essential service, he has no mechanism to allow and disallow somebody. In many cases, they are being harsh, they are beating up people. In Kerala, one of our health workers going to service a patient was arrested," he said.
"People are risking their lives, please don't beat them up. Challan them. If people run away because their colleagues are beaten up, we cannot do anything. Don't beat up people trying to deliver goods and services," Mr Ganesh added.
The statement was echoed by online grocery retailer Grofers and meat delivery platform FreshToHome, which said they were facing obstructions in delivering from local authorities who were enforcing the coronavirus lockdown indiscriminately.
Even takeaway restaurants are facing a similar crackdown. Arjun Jaiswal, founder of Baking Bad, a pizza delivery chain in Delhi NCR, alleged that staff on two-wheelers were caned by the Delhi Police.
The situation in Delhi is very bad, Mr Jaiswal said. "In the East on Kailash area in south Delhi, delivery boy riding bikes are being lathi-charged. In Noida, their phones were taken away while they tried to show proof. There is complete chaos."
Karan Nambiar of Captain Grub too repeated the allegations about the Noida Police. “The police has not given us any explanation on why delivery is not being allowed. The police are unaware of the rules and have violently been trashing our riders who are risking their own health at the time like this to ensure food is delivered to everyone who needs it," he said in a Facebook post.
Amid increasing reports of such incidents, the central government at a news conference said it was taking steps to ensure smooth delivery of basic necessities.
Separately, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: "We will issue e-passes to vegetable-sellers, grocers among others to ensure essential supplies during the lockdown."
Delhi Police public relations officer MS Randhawa told NDTV they will take action against policemen accused of attacking delivery executives.
Gurgaon and Noida Police also tweeted that it had asked policemen to allow delivery services.

An Italian couple recently were treated in Agra, with their consent, with HIV anti-retroviral drugs and were found to be negative. They had severe respiratory distress and the drugs were given on compassionate grounds by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

According to med journals, i have read that zinc has somewhat suppressing effect on binding of the virus. Is this concept is slowly picking up or just another hypothesis?
If am not wrong, these RT-PCR probes were procured from USA till now and then distributed to the state nodal agencies . The ICMR has allowed new commercial kits to perform this test now.
Usually if the state nodal station founds it positive, they were reconfirmed by sending another sample to NIV Pune. This take usually 2days but this varies depending on various other factors too pertaining to the lab and reagents .Now with new commercial kits, I expect we get more faster results.

Those numbers for India and Pakistan are so fudged/inaccurate, i have this feeling, God forbid, they will suddenly be on the wrong end of lists in the coming weeks despite all the efforts (especially when more proper tests are conducted)... as its not in the nature for our people in Ind/Pak to sit idle or hush hush... just have this weird feeling, but hopefully before our ppl hit the pandemic levels, the cure is out and about..
