Coronavirus in India

Read this before blabbering on:

"When Hon’ble Prime Minister announced the “Janta Curfew”, for 22nd March 2020, the ongoing program in Markaz Nizamuddin was discontinued immediately, however due to sudden cancelation of rail services across the country on 21st March 2020, a large group of visitors who had to depart by way of railways got stuck in the Markaz premises.

On 22nd March 2020, “Janta Curfew” was observed and accordingly visitors were advised not to venture out until 9 PM as desired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, therefore the plans to move back to their native places by way of means other than railways also did not materialize. Before the Janta Curfew could be lifted at 9PM, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi announced lockdown of Delhi beginning at 6AM on 23rd March 2020 till 31st March 2020, thereby further diminishing any chances of these visitors availing road transport for their journey back home. Despite this challenging situation, with the help of Markaz administration, around fifteen hundred visitors left Markaz Nizamuddin by availing whatever meager transport was available."

The Delhi state govt had stopped congregation of more than 200 people on 13th march and more than 50 people on 16th march. So these excuses dont hold.

May the gods show mercy.

These tableeghis though foolishly and illegally attended the congregation, they did it in the name of god.

Please god show mercy on them.

Lets all of us pray.

No God or religion advises people to be idiots.

I hope they don’t get infected because they will spread to other innocent people who are following the rules.

Are these people this thick really? I am
Surprised there isn’t one responsible or educated person in the group.

Again caveat: this goes for any religion that violates such rules before people get panic attacks

They did what they did due to their belief in god. People of every religion do it.

This is a valid argument which wasn't addressed in the statement by Markaz. It also raises the question why the police let them carry on their activities until the full lockdown.

Can you imagine what the mob would do if their prayers are interrupted?

Then if the police would use force there would be a thread on PP ( obviously not a benchmark) and on most mainstream anti-Modi platforms that Nazi Modi has shown his contempt for Muslims, etc.

It’s a double edged sword.

A cursory glance at this issue and I can see the hoopla.

Tableeghi is using the Mar 22nd cut off and says it stopped after that.

Delhi passed a ruling on Mar 13th. Others are referring to that.

Let's call spade a spade.

Tableeghi screwed up. They are at fault.

Sadly, it's part of a WIDER issue that Indian govt at the centre took too long to address this issue. Almost no one took it seriously before that.

On Mar 23, look at Madhya Pradesh MLAs

Bhopal: Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been elected as the leader of BJP legislative party in Madhya Pradesh, at the meeting held at the party office. Barely anyone took it seriously before Janata Curfew.

From a legal standpoint, Tableeghi can be nailed due to Delhi orders on 13th. If it were any other state, Tableeghi could have probably got off and this would have been a random news with left wingers and right wingers sparring pointlessly.

But the larger issue remains.

We were ACTUALLY very late on cooridnating a national effort

Just that we were lucky other nations bore the brunt of it first which gave us valuable time.

Threads on PP mean zero except as the forum suggests, for 'Time Pass' . They should have been given the danda treatment and separated by police when the time was right.

Yes we would see the usual moaning on The Wire, The Quint, Scroll.in etc but it would have likely saved dozens of lives if not more.

What is the relationship between the Tableeghi Jamaat congregation and the MP MLAs meeting to elect a CM when assembly was in session?

How many cases reported in that MP MLAs meeting?

Electing the CM to run a state is essential, holding a religious congregation is not.

This is a valid argument which wasn't addressed in the statement by Markaz. It also raises the question why the police let them carry on their activities until the full lockdown.

The Delhi state govt is ofcourse responsible. No doubt.

As we speak, Police all over the country are raiding the Tableeghi masjids and foreigners are beimg found hidden there.

It’s a double edged sword.

Police is out with danda now. No matter if in the mosque or market. The police has to use strickt measures anyway to enforce the current lockdown. So the arguments remains. The Delhi authorities themselves failed to enforce the guidelines when they were first announced in mid March.

These were new measure introduced to the population. To a population which isn't know to take guidelines seriously.

Therefore blame lies on both parties. Those who ignored the measures put in place and those who failed to do their job and check if the new measures are being respected by the population or not.

It's not addressed cos they are at fault.

Guess what? Me and kaayal were the only 2 people who ACTUALLY questioned all this well before these issues popped up.

We simply didn't have a coordinated national strategy and didn't take action on these culprits early enough.

When you should, you don't.

When you shouldn't, you do.

Fate of our nation.

Can't you see the obvious point?

That no one took it seriously till Janata Curfew.

The MP event happened on Mar 23 where NO form of social distancing was followed.

After saving their lives, let these idiots rot in jail for long. And press murder charges along with fake visa application. Some people only think of themselves but idiots don't know they are risking their family lives too in this case. This is the major problem with muslims, they never follow law of the land. They think that voilating law of the land brings them near to Jannat.

Or else it's right?

Those Markaz guys completely screwed it up. They are at fault no matter whatever they say. Who in their right mind will continue with a gathering when Covid19 pandemic is going around? They should be held responsible for putting millions of people at risk for this infection. All said first we need treat them now and then proceed with the legal action later.

sensible-indian-fan issue is they are foreigners, they have to tell that we are doing religious gathering on tourist visa. MP meeting has no foreign return. I hope you understand that we can't compare since this disease basically brought by foreigners in India. They have tableegi jamat people from even China.

If I were to argue that Tableeghis are not at fault, it would make sense.

But try to see the larger point.

Foreigners or not...barely anyone took it seriously.

Absolutely.

So electing a CM is not essential? Its an emergency to have a CM to run a state.

Do it with social distancing.

They are behaving that way on on Feb 23rd or Mar 13th...but on Mar 23rd.

Surely you could see my point.

Plus this MP social distancing fiasco is MADE a big hoopla back then too.

The 1,000-odd foreign nationals who are in the country to participate in Tablighi Jamaat activities could be barred from returning to India over violation of their visa conditions, a government official said on Tuesday The official said most of them had entered the country on tourist visas but appeared to be involved in activities that require a missionary visa.

The visa status of the foreign Tablighi Jamaat workers came into focus after 24 people living in the headquarters of the religious sect in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area tested positive on Monday. Authorities rushed to evacuate the five-storey building and test the hundreds of inmates who were still around for the highly contagious Sars-Cov-2 virus. More than 300 others have symptoms of Covid-19, the Union home ministry statement issued on Tuesday evening said.

The home ministry said 1,203 Jamaat workers at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz had been medically screened, an exercise that started on March 26. Those who had symptoms have been sent to hospitals; others to state-run quarantine centres at Narela, Bakkarwala and Sultanpuri. By the evening, the government said, every Jamaat worker would be moved out of Nizamuddin Markaz.

The home ministry also cited several messages that had been sent to the states alerting them to the need to locate, identify and screen the foreign and Indian workers of the sect. One of the earliest messages was on March 21 after a case of one of the Jamaat volunteers was detected.

The last one was on March 29 from the Intelligence Bureau director, telling state police chiefs to track down these workers and their contacts for the Sars-Cov-2 pathogen.

Simultaneously, the home ministry has also asked state police officials to report back if their activities were consistent with their visa. A senior government official suggested that all of them appeared to have violated their visa conditions since they entered the country on a tourist visa, not a missionary visa.

Of the 1,746 persons staying in Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz on March 21, the home ministry said 216 were foreigners and 1,530 were Indians. Apart from them, there were 824 foreign Tablighi Jamaat workers in different parts of the country for missionary work.

The security establishment carries out rigorous checks for requests for a missionary visa as compared to tourist visa applications.

“Usually, all the foreign nationals visiting India as a part of the Tabligh team come on the strength of a tourist visa. MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) had already issued guidelines that they should not indulge in missionary work on tourist visa. State Police would be examining categories of visas of all these foreign TJ workers and take further action in case of violation of visa conditions,” the home ministry statement confirmed.

Too little too late by MHA. It shows intelligence failure.

Isn't air travel from China banned in India. People from Kyrgyzstan may look Chinese but aren't.

"foreigners" is a vague term. Depending on the date travel ban was announced the virus most likely entered India through overseas Indians returning home be it from UAE or European countries and tourists mainly from Italy and Spain.

Sirris Yes, one Chinese is there. They gathered in Malaysia before coming to India. In Malaysia too, news are getting out that some section of these people are positive. I can't even think that how can in times like these people are this much credulous. They don't think about others, even about their families.

‘Babydoll’ singer Kanika Kapoor has tested positive for the coronavirus for the fifth time consecutively. The 41-year-old is currently undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS).

All the coronavirus patients who have tested positive once are being tested again every 48 hours. To be released from observation, Kapoor has to test negative for Covid-19 twice. This was the fifth sample test that was conducted for the singer.

Professor R.K. Dhiman, the director of the institute, in a statement, said that Kapoor’s condition was stable and that there is no cause of worry, reported TOI.

On Monday, the ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’ singer had written a heartfelt post on Instagram reassuring her fans that she is ‘fine’ and dismissed the rumours of being in the ICU. "Going off to bed. Sending you all loving vibes. Stay safe you guys. Thank you for your concern but I am not in the ICU. I am fine. I hope my next test is negative," wrote Kapoor.

Kapoor had reportedly gone to Mumbai after returning from London on March 9. She tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time on March 20.

On March 21, the singer was booked for negligence by the UP Police. She alleged that she was being treated ‘like a criminal’ at the hospital, following which, the hospital released a statement asking the singer to behave like a patient and not throw ‘tantrums of a star’.

Regardless of their status and what they are doing I still do not get the logic for using the term corona jihad... are you or others alleging they are doing this as part of some pre determined Islamist plot? And logically how does this even work when the only think they’re doing is infecting other Muslim tableeghis.

In assam, the govt is asking for the people to report who have been to tablighi jamat.... Seems like this gathering have brought lots of secondary infections (atleast suspected).

No ! I don't believe it is some kind of pre planned or plot. The media house by name 'Political Kada' posted this video om their twitter account & I posted it here to show the content

Sir, I am not sanghi , bhangi or any kind of junkie lol hehe

In fact I don't even know meaning of the hindi word 'sanghi' as I m from south india & we don't speak hindi here

It's a shame to see our media and people once again showing their hatred towards muslims. They are continuing from where they left i.e delhi riots.

This is no jihad. This is stupidity and criminal negligence.

If Muslims get infected, wont they spread it to other communities too?

Come on don't play naive!

The Modus operandi is spitting, something no other group in India does publicly. They don't care about infecting other Muslims since it's a suicide spitting mission. After suicide bombings Atankwadis have found a new deadly weapon; suicide spitting.

All there is left now is to wait for IS al-Hind province to claim the responsibility for corona jihad.

Ofcourse they will spread to everyone. But on Twitter the claims being made are that they are specifically going to spread to non Muslims and hence calling it corona jihad. And this ignores the fact that till now the tableeghis have only spread it to other tableeghis

Slog you are no fan of tableeghis so dont start defending them just for the sake of it.

Till now is a big till now. I hope the spread is halted. But these people travelled all over India.

CJ, keep an eye on Assam on this subject. I hope there won't be more cases but realistically speaking Its about to start. The whole chain. Coming days will give clearer picture.

What Delhi authorities need to do is check whether any other large local gathering after 16 March was held. Be it religious our otherwise.

Tableeghi group has been identified that's good. Quarantine them. But don't lose all the focus on them. Is there any guarantee that there was no other mass gathering which now potentially have gone unnoticed and could cause further damage if it remains unnoticed. They were way too negligent in enforcing the measures against large gatherings if they let the well known hub of Tableeghi markaz do it's thing until 22nd March.

Serves you right for hanging out on Twitter.

Expect the Godi media to miss the wood for the trees train their guns on the Muslims, that's how we've been rolling lately. ::J

The whole lockdown may be extended because of these people. The foreign preachers should be punished so hard that none of these preachers come to India ever again.

Both India and Pakistan saw their highest daily increase yesterday.... I hope to God we don't reach Europe level the effects will be devastating. We could go to Bangladesh route and not even test and take solace in the fact that we have just 50 odd cases when even tiny Sri Lanka has around 150.

I'm not even sure if lockdowns may have the desired effects because Europe has been under lockdown since start of March and each country is still reporting several thousand cases a day.

Our only hope is that the extreme summer heat we face in South Asia slows down the virus.

Lol "Corona Jihad!!!" :)) How bad Indian media could be? Like do they use any brain cells before coming up with unreal nonsense! No wonder they are a laughing stock. They have gone nuts in their hatred for Muslims and Pakistan.

First few cases in India were from Indian students from Wuhan, and from Italian/Chinese foreigners in India and Indians who traveled to affected countries like Italy.

No I just have an issue with the theory (hopefully it’s fringe) that they are getting this corona intentionally to specifically spread it among non Muslim communities. I dont think that’s fair accusation and I will have that opinion regardless do whether I like them or not.

Anyways I hope india is able to isolate these and that there is cooperation from their side as wrll

Question to muslim ppers,

what exactly is "Tablighi Jamat" though? I've been in PP from 2011 and this is the first time I am hearing these two words. Not even in religious threads i've read about them.

What Delhi authorities need to do is check whether any other large local gathering after 16 March was held. Be it religious our otherwise.

You mean like the thousands assembled at Anand Vihar or other transport hubs and state borders the length and breadth of India?

Not to mention they went shopping in malls, attended conferences and joined parties despite showing symptoms

Simple way to describe them is they are a group of mullahs who go house to house inviting people to go on a "tableegh" with them for a few days where they will go to a markaz or other large gathering spot and devout themselves in religious activities for a few days. Sometimes they would come to your house and give an unsolicited lecture on religion.

I remember during childhood they used to ring the bell of our house and we used to act like no one is home.

I’m surprised you haven’t come across the term since I’ve criticized them many times and many have obviously defended them too.

In the most simplistic sense, they are a group of preachers who go to different cities and countries to propagate Islam. Anyone can join them on the journeys and the point is that you gain knowledge by accompanying them on these trips. They also meet at different centers once or twice a year in a convention type event which is what seems to have been happenening in Delhi.

They also meet at different centers once or twice a year in a convention type event which is what seems to have been happenening in Delhi.

means those christian missionary like where they take the bible door to door and give away leaf lets and talks about the religion?

Yep on similar lines.

But I think they’re as much a reformist movement. Like most of the places they go to are already Muslims but as per them need to be brought back on the right path (whatever their definition of that is.) Ofcourse they do aim to preach to convert as well but from what I’ve seen the priority is to get current Muslims on their own wavelength first.

You're asking the Sanghis to explain their claims? :)))

See this is my issue. You are (rightfully) defending the corona Jihad comment but why calling others Sanghi? So any random person writing anything in social media against muslims is from Sangh? Anyone saying these guys were spreading Jihad are ignorant idiots. It maybe just a negligence and chalta hai attitude on their part. But why bring Sangh into it? You know nothing about Sangh anyway or what they represents.

Slog, theses kind of gatherings happens in every religion, forget about who they are.

How you see spitting on others to spread.
They spread hate against Lock down.
They spread hate against nation.

They asked their followers the whole lockdown is a plan to separate Muslims from Islam if Allah blessings are there nothing will happen to us don't obey government rules follow Islam.

Now, Thousand of followers followed orders and spread across globe, we were in good shape since yesterday, all of sudden drastic change in cases.

Sure up until yesterday you had 1,200 something cases so you sure were doing great :) It's quite obvious how you lot are trying hard to link corona spread on Muslims.

I am seeing developing trend on social media that majority of Indians are blaming Muslims and Islam for corona in India lol. You folks are beyond a joke with your hatred.

Please read all my posts carefully.

I never blame Muslims, I am blaming people who intentionally spreading by spitting and who intentionally asking their followers to violate the lockdown on name of religion.
I think you have no idea about the stats.

1. Europe started too late.

2. With lockdowns, they are controlling it to 1000s of new cases per day. Or else it would shoot to 10,000s of new cases.

3. USA death projections are 100,000 (even with efforts in place) and they are scrambling to ensure it doesn't happen.

4. The predictive model of Corona shows millions of deaths if no action is taken.

5. University of Cambridge study reg lockdown in India (done by 2 Indians there)

Lockdown and testing go hand in hand.

I do have an idea about stats. Up until yesterday you had 1,200 something tested cases, with millions on roads walking or gathered for buses and you had other mass Hindu religious gatherings and some BJP gathering for voting happening after lockdown, but ofcourse Tableeghi Jamaat event which happened before the curfew and some random Muslim likely clearing throat by spitting is the main cause for the corona jihad lol. Do you guys seriously think before making laughable claims?

You mentioned you were in good shape until yesterday, how exactly were you in good shape with all the curfew mess up, the whole migrant crisis, and 1,200 cases with the least amount of testing you have conducted?

I am not defending Tableeghi Jamaat, they shouldn't have held any event at all, but it was before your country wide lockdown. You already have cases in thousands before this report so don't pretend to be in a "good shape" and losing the "good shape" status because of a Muslim group. Your media and social media Bhakts are now out in full force blaming Muslims and calling it Corona Jihad lol. You do seem to share the same mindset by overlooking other facts and pretending you were better off before.

In an 8,000 sq ft (743 sq m) facility in the western Indian city of Pune, a bunch of young engineers are racing against time to develop a low-cost ventilator that could save thousands of lives if the coronavirus pandemic overwhelms the country's hospitals.

These engineers - from some of India's top engineering schools - belong to a barely two-year-old start-up which makes water-less robots that clean solar plants.

Last year, Nocca Robotics had a modest turnover of 2.7 million rupees ($36,000; £29,000). The average age of the mechanical, electronic and aerospace engineers who work for the firm is 26.

India, by most estimates, only has 48,000 ventilators. Nobody quite knows how many of these breathing assistance machines are working. But it is a fair assumption that all those available are being used in intensive care units on existing patients with other diseases.

About one in six people with Covid-19 gets seriously ill, which can include breathing difficulties. The country faces seeing its hospitals hobbled as others around the world have been, with doctors forced to choose who they try to save.

At least two Indian companies make ventilators at present, mostly from imported components. They cost around 150,000 ($1,987; £1,612) rupees each. One of them, AgVa Healthcare, plans to make 20,000 in a month's time. India has also ordered 10,000 from China, but that will meet just a fraction of the potential demand.

The invasive ventilator being developed by the engineers at Nocca Robotics will cost 50,000 rupees ($662). Within five days of beginning work, a group of seven engineers at the start-up have three prototypes of a portable machine ready.

They are being tested on artificial lungs, a prosthetic device that provides oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the blood. By 7 April, they plan to be ready with machines that can be tested on patients after approvals.

"It is most certainly doable," said Dr Deepak Padmanabhan, a cardiologist at Bangalore's Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and a key advisor on this project. "The simulations on artificial lungs have been done and seem to work well."

Inspiring story

The race to develop this inexpensive, home-grown invasive breathing machine is an inspiring story of swift coordination and speedy action involving public and private institutions, something not common in India.

"The pandemic has brought us all together in ways I could never imagine," says Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, a professor of biological sciences and bioengineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and a key mover of the project.

The young engineers mined open source medical supplies groups on the internet to find information on how to make the ventilators. After securing permissions, it took them exactly eight hours to produce the first prototype. Of particular use, say doctors, were some designs by engineers at MIT. With imports stalled, the engineers picked up pressure sensors - a key component of the machine that helps supply oxygen to lungs at a pressure that doesn't cause injury - from those used in drones and available in the market.

Local authorities helped open firms that stock components - each machine needs 150 to 200 parts - and made sure that a bunch of engineers who had returned home to Nanded after the lockdown were still able to travel 400km (248 miles) back to Pune to work on the machine.

Some leading Indian industrialists, including a major medical device-making company, have offered their factories to manufacture the machines. The plan is to make 30,000 ventilators, at around 150-200 a day, by the middle of May.

Social media influencers joined the effort. Rahul Raj, a lithium battery-maker and an IIT alumnus, crowd-sourced a group called Caring Indians to "pool resources and experience" to cope with the pandemic. Within 24 hours, 1,000 people had signed up. "We tweeted to the local lawmaker and local police in Pune to help the developers, and made contacts with people who would be interested in the project," Mr Raj said.

'No-frills machine'

Expat Indian doctors and entrepreneurs who went to the same school - IIT is India's leading engineering school and alumni include Google chief Sundar Pichai - held Zoom meetings with the young developers, advising them and asking questions about the machine's development. The head of a US-based company gave them a 90-minute lecture on how to manage production. A former chief of an info-tech company told them how to source the components.

Lastly, a bunch of doctors vetted every development and asked hard questions. In the end, more than a dozen top professionals - pulmonologists, cardiologists, scientists, innovators, venture capitalists - have guided the young team.

Doctors say the goal is to develop a "no-frills" breathing machine tailored to Indian conditions.

Ventilators depend on pressurised oxygen supply from hospital plants. But in a country where piped oxygen is not available in many small towns and villages, developers are seeing whether they can also make the machine run on oxygen cylinders. "In a way we are trying to de-modernise the machine to what it was barely 20 years ago," says Dr Padmanabhan.

"We are not experienced. But we are very good at making products easily. The robots that we make are much more complex to make. But this is a life-saving machine and carries risk, so we have to be very, very careful that we develop a perfect product which clears all approvals," said Nikhil Kurele, the 26-year-old co-founder and chief executive officer of Nocca Robotics.

In just a week's time, India will learn whether they pulled off the feat.

I am a doctor. We don’t want people clapping for us. What we really need is more testing kits, better quarantine facilities, PPE’s and more correct awareness. This janta Curfew is of not use when people resume their lives the next day. This virus can remain in individuals and surfaces for several days. This one day or alternate day curfew is not going to break this chain of transmission.

Lol when i exposed you the idiocy of this Modiji’s Janta Curfew and clapping exercise you are shifting the blame on state govt. Kerala is controling it very well within their limitations. But we need to get help as much as possible. This is a war like a situation where the doctors are the soldiers. Considering our population, no amount of money will be sufficient to give us enough supplies.

Kerala firm exports 35L pairs of surgical gloves to Serbia

KOCHI: Around 35 lakh pairs of sterile surgical gloves were airlifted from the Cochin International Airport to Serbia on Monday, to bolster the east European country’s fight against Covid-19. The gloves — weighing 90,385 kg and packed in 7,091 carton boxes — were sent to Belgrade on the Boeing 747 cargo freighter aircraft of TransAVIAexport Airlines. The gloves were exported by St Mary’s Rubbers(P) Ltd, Kanjirapilly, said a release issued by the airport.

I was wondering when there is severe shortage of medical equipment why kerala state govt. is allowing supplies of surgical gloves (sterile off course) to a foreign country.

Every state govt. knows what exacting is going out of their borders. So it's not possible that this company exported without the knowledge of state govt.
