What's new

Coronavirus in Pakistan

First I was against a full countrywide lockdown, but now I think we need to implement it ASAP atleast for two weeks. Italy saw +6557 cases today despite being in lockdown....... God forbid that situation arrives in Pakistan.

Time to lock down completely, even India may be just a day or two behind . My fear is this will get much worse than countries like Italy cos of multiple reasons if not contained now .

Italy initiated a full lockdown on 9th March..... its been almost 2 weeks since then and the number of new cases keeps rising. I do not know why that is happening, they should start seeing a stabilization in the growth of new cases, but instead each days has more new cases than the previous day.

Italy has a family structure like us with large close knit families, despite people being under lockdown they are infecting people from their own families in their own homes.

Our government needs to arrest this issue right now or we will make Italy look like they have it in control.

Governor sindh said thats it already to late to force lockdown, but they have to do it now .....

it took 3 months for china to stop this virus , prepare for the worst ..... its going to be sharp increased .... Iranians screwed us .....

I told everyone here weeks before, Pakistani qaum only needs Danda to understand simple things ....

Indians are no different in this regard.
I was talking to my cousin who lives in Mumbai while back , tells me he’s out to buy grocery with his wife which is fine . I just joked about being a little more careful , his response “ apparently this is not airborne and with summer coming we should be fine” . We stand no chance when educated folks are still shrugging this off as nothing .

When Italy locked down, it's official cases were a small fraction of true cases. Both of them growing exponentially.

Once locked down, official cases started getting clocked while true cases growth would have been STUNTED but it won't be visible on stats.

Meanwhile during lockdown, all the new infections (occured before locked down), would have turned symptomatic and official cases kept on rising. And these new infections would have been transmitted to others too (before lockdown).

So all of those stats are showing now.

At some point in the future Italy would flatten its curve with official cases matching true cases.

Dunno when that will happen.

It's scary really.

I try not to think about the situation in SC. We cannot lockdown like Italy. Atleast not the whole nation. People would die of hunger anyway.

Stupids.

Earlier today, Sukkur quarantine was broken off and Zaireens tried to escape. Not sure if all were traced back or not.

Countries like UK-Italy took it lightly, and they have to pay for that .... i am afraid, SC going to get a worst hit .....
In case of Karachi, I knw we are to late to enforce the lockdown, now even govt start saying this .....

Karachi have seen the lockdowns since 80s, its not that hard to do lockdown in Karachi , Rangers and Army are fully capable for that, cant say for other cities in Pakistan .....

btw, what will be the trajectory of Karachi or Sindh in current scenario , if you or someone from medical background can tell us ....

But you a population that is brought up on looking for shortcuts, is it a surprise.

Retaliation could be anywhere in the world, supposedly more in Pakistan. Authorities should be strict in implementing orders. In Pakistan, its beyond Police and Politicians to control this situation ( they have capabilities but hierarchy order for chain of command is messed up).

I said it 5 days ago, we need to call in Army.

As you know here in the UK people are not following advice and that is in supposedly educated country, and in PK we have no chance unless you have martial law and I don't want this to be a political point but the supporters of the mafia would this use this like nothing else.

High risk areas like Karachi should have been locked down.

Surprised it wasn't locked down.

As for trajectory....medical professionals can explain.

----

One way is to take weekly growth of cities like New York and compare it with Karachi to get an idea.

Another way (mathematical) is to use a calculator:

https://cryptocoingrowth.com/calculator/

Initial Purchase Amount = Number of cases on X day (choose the point where explosion JUST started)

Daily Interest Rate = Rate of growth

Length of Term = Number of days projection

Daily Reinvest Rate = Use 100% for raw math numbers (it probably won't play out that way in real life)

Include Weekends = Yes

You have to play around with it to get Daily Growth Rate and Daily Reinvest Rate of Karachi and see projections.

These numbers won't play out the same way in real life with govt testing and isolating but it should give us an idea.

Because hundreds or thousands of people were already infected when the lockdown was imposed. Thus the need for early measures. The longer you wait, more difficult it becomes as you just can't trace every infected person and the thousands of people they interact with. We are perhaps already too late. With our population density and resources we are in much much more danger than Italy or any other country.

I'm seriously concerned about lockdown in Karachi disrupting the entire supply chain of the country. Keep in mind Pakistan's 2 out of 3 seaports are in Karachi. While Gwadar is fully functioning but it is not yet completely integrated with the supply chain of the country.

IF Karachi is completely locked out for 15 days it might mean shortage of fuel and essential food items in the rest of the country.

733 cases of #COVID19outbreak in Pakistan. The number is rapidly increasing as more people are tested. Sindh Govt's curfew-like-lockdown will have 2-3 hours of daily relaxation for visits to grocery stores/pharmacies. Violators to be arrested

Pakistan's coronavirus cases total is now 630

The provincial govt for Sindh revised its earlier released total of 396 down to 292 - it cited a "counting error" in cases of pilgrims in Sukkur

Total tested positive in Sukkur is 187 -- Karachi has 105

The cases in Pakistan seem to be getting higher and higher double of India's and where as Bangladesh and Afghanistan are not even 50 of yet.

This is perfectly shows the current situation

My BDeshi friend showed me some videos and other coronavirus related stuffs. Seems like the government is smudging the numbers. India is not doing any better ... *** Cow **** drinking party ... Our people should be ashamed for letting misinformation go out like this. Millions will die.

At this time there exists two schools of thought in Pakistan

1. Elite and upper middle class: Immediately impose full lockdown even if you have to do for a few months

2. General population: Nothing is going to happen. This is a conspiracy. Nothing should close we will lose our job/daily wage.

Government has to find a middle ground and make decision by seeing the situation.

Seems like whole of the indian subcontinent is same after all. People are so unaware of the danger of Coronavirus that it is absolutely mind boggling.
In Chittagong(Bangladesh) the commercial capital of the country, where both sea & land port are situated in the metropolitan, where commercial special zones are situated(has high number of foreigners), where huge number of expats have returned recently, not a single person is yet to be found to be a covid-19 patient. Reason? Well the reason is simple. None is yet to be tested. We only have a single testing center in the whole country(is in Dhaka) & they are mostly refusing to test people. So far 24 people have tested positive with two casualties. We are in some serious trouble & Government probably has its reason to hide the real numbers. But the worrying part is
1. Government seem to be absolutely unprepared to fight the virus.
2. People in general are not giving a damn about the virus. Most hold the view that muslims wont get infected hence there is no real awareness among people.
Something tells me, Next couple of weeks will really be difficult.

P.S. Government finally is taking some steps by employing law inforcing agencies to restrict public gatherings. Might be too late though

The cases you are seeing now are from pre-lockdown. This virus has a longer latency built into it, which we haven't seen in other viruses. Assuming the lockdown in Italy was enforced properly, you'll start seeing a flattening of their curve in early April.

Any country which waits for 500+ cases to show up, is already late! Which in this case is almost every country in this world...

Everyone should stick to simplest of meals. Cut down expenditures.

Donate, no matter whatever amount.Govt should set up a charity account for rationing the families who can't purchase.

Punjab joins other provinces in requesting for army deployment

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar announced that the provincial government has requisitioned the Pakistan Army under Article 245 of the Constitution to aid the civil administration in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Buzdar clarified that rumours of a food shortage in the province were false and urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures as advised by the government.

Would be ironic if one of the countries which has always been a target for scorn for military control fails to mobilise it's armed forces to actually protect it's people when required as a matter of urgency.

Really surprised with these repeated statements about not having money . Is Pakistan’s situation so bad that we cannot afford a lock down of a week ?

Lockdown in Sindh starting midnight: CM Shah

Lockdown will be imposed in Sindh from midnight, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said.

Curfew imposed in Sindh for next 15 days; movement restricted to need-basis only

He said that all offices will be closed and gatherings banned. Additionally, those who are not required to, will not be allowed to go outside in public.

The provincial chief minister said that law enforcement agencies will be told that if someone is out due to a necessity they should be permitted, adding that if anyone steps out they should carry their CNIC.

If someone is sick they will be able to visit the hospital, CM Shah said.

Some other details shared by the chief minister include:

One driver and one passenger will be allowed in a car
Essential services including food supplies will continue
There should be only three people in a car when going to the hospital

KP orders closure of restaurants, suspends inter-city transport services

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced the closure of all markets, shopping malls and restaurants in the province. According to a notification, this began today morning at 9am and will continue till March 24.

Take away will not be allowed, however, deliveries are permitted.

In a separate notification, the government announced that inter-district passenger public transport will be suspended for a week starting on March 23.

Some good measures finally. If not a complete lockdown, they should identity the hot zone and seal them shut. No travel allowed outside.

any province can ask for Army help when needed. IK was saying this becoz people will take it as enforced curfew, but hes already agreed about lockdown ....
in fact its going to be enforced lockdown, its upto Rangers/Army, becoz people have no common sense ....

In Kohat (KPK) transport has been banned, malls restaurants markets has been shut down apart from medical stores or grocery stores. And Police is not allowing anyone without Mask.

A good strict step.

Bro even desis in Toronto are gathering in numbers. I fear Canada will have similar impact. My friend few days ago went to shopping in mall, now days later she is showing symptoms. She tried calling 911 and Health Ontario but no body answer. She can’t even go to ER( no health card). I did informed her days ago to self isolate but then she was more interested in buying discounted gym wear.

You see educated desis are the worst enemies as they think “muje Kya hoga”.

Very good.

By now, 30-40% have stocked ration for up to 1 week.
And few NGOs are already open to requests for free supply of food.

We need to minimize our expenditures. And donate whatever little we can.

I hope Dam-Fund is also released for this purpose.

Sher of Punjab is back. Wish he was CM instead of the inept, incompetent Buzdar.

He turned the fairly manageable dengue outbreak into the Black Plague for Punjab. I shudder to think how he would have done In the face of this
