10 days of "strict lockdown" is very easy for you to say. I am certain you have a steady stream of income either through your businesses, family income or work from home corporate job. You can afford a "strict lockdown".

Well news flash, 60-70% of Pakistan is not as lucky as you. Majority of Pakistan's work force is daily wage earners or small business owners. If they earn today they will have food today. Otherwise they go to bed hungry. This is the class of people Imran Khan is looking out for, and this is why we see the elite, burger, woke class getting their panties in a twist.

Bro I am not anti-Imran or anti-establishment and niether am I some elitist. imo also lockdown is no solution to Corona, but you have to look at broader perspective here, the situation is pretty serious now, just check out pics on SM or ask anyone, SOPs are out of place, no one is taking them seriously, from government to the common man. There's record rise in cases & deaths everyday, while recovery rate increasing rapidly is a good news but there's subsequent increase in new cases also. There are cases in Sindh, Punjab & KPK where hospitals are refusing to take new patients as they are already filled to the brim.

Pakistan was in lockdown (partial or full, but it was) and with Corona Tiger force, Ehsaas Program and esp NGOs working hard, a short lockdown can be announced and then everything can be restored again, but this time it needs to be ensured that SOPs are properly followed, esp in markets and mosques.

P.S. don't confuse criticism with politics, criticism isn't a bad thing, it can make governments efficient and better. And you don't need to get personal on everything

KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) - A pharmaceutical company in Pakistan plans to import the antiviral drug remdesivir, which has shown promise in treating coronavirus patients, from neighbouring Bangladesh, it said in a stock exchange filing on Friday.

The announcement by Searle Company Limited came a day after 56 virus deaths recorded by the south Asian nation, its highest toll in a single day.

The firm said it had entered into an exclusive licensing and marketing agreement with Bangladesh’s Beximco Pharmaceuticals, the first company in the world to introduce the generic variant of the drug.

“Searle Pharma is planning to import remdesivir in finished form (ready to use) to meet the country’s urgent requirements,” the company told the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Remdesivir, a drug developed by Gilead Sciences, has grabbed attention as one of the most promising treatments for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus, which has killed more than 350,000 people globally.

This month, Ferozson’s Pharma said it would make the drug in Pakistan after signing a non-exclusive licensing pact with Gilead to make and sell the drug to 127 nations, but it warned that production could take “weeks”.

Pakistan’s tally of infections stands at 64,000, with 1,317 deaths, but authorities estimate the disease will not peak until June.

Searle said the Bangladesh imports would ensure an immediate supply of the drug at an affordable price, helping to eliminate treatment delays by Pakistan’s healthcare providers.

Gilead’s patent gives the U.S. company exclusive rights to make the antiviral. But global trade rules allow nations defined by the United Nations as least-developed countries (LDCs) to ignore the patent and make such drugs more affordable in their markets.

Bangladesh is one of 47 countries that fall in this category.

Completely agree.

I am really tired of this flawed argument that it is the elite classes who wanted the lockdown and the govt lifted the lockdown because of the poor. The elite classes don’t need a lockdown to sit at home. They will sit in their air-conditioned homes irrespective of whether the govt officially announces a lockdown or not. Most rich and upper middle-class people will continue to work from home for the next few months simply because they can. Even if they lose their jobs, they have the resources to survive a few months and the skills to find a new job once things return to normal.

It is the poor working classes for whom an official lockdown is important. The rich have gotten exactly what they wanted. They industrialists, businessmen and even moderately affluent middle classes are sitting at home while the poor who work in their factories and companies are out there facing the corona virus and filling up hospitals. For these people and apparently also for the govt, keeping the wheels of the economy turning is more important than a few thousand lives as the majority of the people who die will be the poor anyway.

Yes, a long lockdown was never a sustainable solution in a poor country like Pakistan. But a two or three months lockdown in the initial stages of the pandemic was very much possible. At least in big cities, there were enough charities, volunteers and govt infrastructure to support the poor during a short lockdown. We even had a partly effective lockdown for some time until we decided to open everything up for some inexplicable reason. This is the model the whole world has followed. Impose some form of full or partial lockdown in the initial stages of the pandemic and then open up in phases after a couple of months. We on the other had kept dilly dallying, underplaying the severity of the issue and negotiating with religious parties in the initial stages and then decided to do away with the lockdown completely.

On a more personal level, my sister is a doctor, some of my close friends are doctors and so are a lot of people among my in-laws. These people have enough financial resources to sit out the pandemic but they are out there treating people. Even during the partial lockdown, I know a lot of people who were doing volunteer work to help the poor. This is what helping the poor means. Opening everything in the name of helping the poor is not a strategy, it is an excuse for avoiding hard and unpopular decisions. I am a PTI supporter but that doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything they do. IK is a leader, not a religious figure beyond criticism.

thats stating 9000-13000 tests being done, thats really poor, i would have thought it would have been around 25000-30000.

They had reached around 15-16k before Eid but then started scaling down with health workers being given some time off during Eid. Tests should start increasing once again now toward the 20k mark, but it will probably take some time to get near the 30k mark. The progress hasn't been fast enough, that's for sure.

fair enough that had to scale down for eid, but everyone knows that its not decreasing, its increasing faster- so why stop and test more and at a faster rate.

simple decisions these are and yet still the same simple mistakes with slow progress

Countries with huge population like pakistan or India, the absolute number of positive cases are not the real indicator. So it should not be the matrix of comparison.

How many tests are being done per day?

What is the percentage of people reported positive per day?

Whats the death rate?

Whats the recovery rate?

Whats the doubling time?

These are more important.

Can anyone tell me the figures gor pakistan?

Here is some data we collected for analysis for a consulting work we are doing. Data is from worldometer. There could be some small discrepancy as we collect data using auto scripts three times a day. But the discrepancy will be within statistically negligent range.

Have to do more calculation and need more data for the doubling time.

But overall death rate is below 3 percent. Thats excellent.

Recovery rate is around 35 Percent which is decent.

Only worry is that postivity rate is 12 percent. Thats high.

BD is actually flying under the radar. Their positive rates are the highest with the least recovery rates among all SA countries.

Apologies for my aggressive tone.

No matter how much charity work goes on there really is no possible way all the poor and hungry can be reached. World over countries are coming out of lockdown because of the economic cost being too large. Pakistan has really no other choice but to come out of lockdown and hope for the best. That is the unfortunate and sad reality. A look at India next door shows the disastrous effect of a strict lockdown. Hundreds of Indians have died just desperately trying to get home because of the lockdown. Hundred of millions might be suffering yet the new cases graph for India continues to go up.

Also it is not an established fact that lockdown is the solution to this crisis. There are several examples around the world that lockdown only temporarily halts the issue and as soon as lockdown is lifted the situation quickly returns to pre-lockdown state.

What may happen is we might go into spells of lockdown when the government builds up the bed capacities to cater to new cases then eases lockdown, then reimposes lockdown when the bed occupancy exceeds a certain number. We desperately need a vaccine.

Sindh govt allows traders to open shops, markets on weekends

(Karachi) In a bid to facilitate traders, Sindh government has allowed businesses and shopping malls to open on weekends, media has reported.

As per details, all shops, markets and shopping malls will open on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm. However, the provincial government has asked all businesses to strictly follow SOPs and precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has said that public and private educational institutes in the provinces will remain closed and will not open on June 1.

According to the notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, the date for reopening schools will be announced keeping in view the Covid-19 situation.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced to open all markets, except shopping malls for business activity. However, soon after trade activity resumed, the provincial government sealed major markets in different areas of Karachi as traders failed to follow SOPs.

Sindh reported on Friday its highest number of coronavirus deaths in a single day after 31 people lost their lives to the novel virus.

During the past 24 hours, 31 patients lost their battle to the virus. The death toll in Sindh has reached 427 while 308 patients are in critical condition. Besides, 52 are on ventilators.

In the past 24 hours, 1,563 people have also recovered from the virus.

The virus spreads more rapidly in an enclosed environment where the there is very little air flow. I think large gatherings like weddings, prayers (inside mosques) and other events should be avoided and banned by the govt. As long as people don't breathe on each other I think being outside should be fine with a mask as protection.

2400 positive out of 12000 tests. That's 20% positive rate in testing. Pakistan needs to ramp up testing and health facilities or a big disaster is in the making.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country stands at 65,317, while a total of 1,366 deaths have been reported in the country.

1,826 more people recover from corona in Pakistan

The national database for coronavirus shows that a total of 1,826 people have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours. The total number of recoveries in the country stands at 24,131.

Minister of State Sheheryar Afridi tests positive for the Coronavirus

Sindh has reported its single biggest daily jump in deaths from Coronavirus with 38 in the past 24 hours.

Pakistan's local transmission rate is 92pc, says SAPM Mirza

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza has said that the country's local transmission rate for the coronavirus is 92 per cent.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said the infection rate was on the rise.

"Cases are increasing as the disease is spreading, so is the importance of following standard operating procedures (SOPs)."

He also said 78 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours, which was the highest single-day tally for Pakistan since the outbreak.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and his eight family members have tested positive for the Coronavirus

Any projections on when Pakistan will hit peak?

Projections, graphs etc will not be able to show any of that. In the rural areas/villagss there is 0 so called social distancing. Deaths so far in Pakistan are below 1500. Each day 8.000 people die in Pakistan.

IMHO Pak has much more serious issues then this virus.

She went ahead with her show today after this announcement. When ARY posted the videos of the show on Facebook then some people in the comments were bashing her, saying that it proved that people are "faking" corona and that there is some great conspiracy and that there is no corona in Pakistan. What can you do with so much ignorance? No wonder people are just going about with their business and ignoring SOPs.

Pakistanis have a disturbing affinity towards conspiracy theories.

More so than others based on my observation.

ISLAMABAD: Senior doctors from a couple of major public sector healthcare facilities in the twin cities have voiced their deep concerns over the 'casual attitude' of the federal and provincial government towards more and more healthcare workers contracting the coronavirus with each passing day.

Deputy Director at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Dr Waseem Ahmed Khawaja, who himself had tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks back, informed The News on Saturday that around 90 staff members at PIMS, including 49 doctors, have already been tested positive for COVID-19. He said the situation is becoming more and more alarming after a continuous rise in the number of healthcare workers contracting disease.

Head of Pathology Department at PIMS Professor Ashok Tanwani, sharing information with The News, revealed that almost all these staff members including the 49 doctors were serving general patients and those admitted in wards other than the corona isolation ward.

This shows how much the general population has been exposed to the coronavirus and they are carriers causing transmission of the disease to healthcare workers, said Dr Ashok.

According to Dr Ashok, these healthcare workers are then a hazard for their patients as well as to their families. He said that doctors were falling from the wall between the coronavirus and the general population and that wall, one day, will come down brick by brick as the dengue infection was continuing to rise as well. The havoc it will cause will be indescribable, he said.

He added that our general population and government are displaying a careless attitude towards the problem. Mortality has hit a record high till now with ventilators being scarce, he said. Dr Ashok requested people to behave responsibly and impose a lockdown on themselves to avoid further spreading the virus.

It is important that well over 100 healthcare workers, including a number of senior doctors, have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in Rawalpindi as well. The Head of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Holy Family Hospital Professor Dr. Rizwana Chaudhary and her husband Professor Muttiullah have also tested positive for the disease.

A number of senior health professionals are now actively involved in creating awareness among the general public on how to avoid COVID-19 and what is needed to control its spread.

They believe that individuals must take preventive measures and the government should provide personal protective equipment to healthcare workers. According to Professor Ashok, social distancing is necessary along with frequent hand washing and the use of sensitizers and masks.

Further awareness should be created through social media and the government should take more serious actions for a smart lockdown, he said.

ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday declared wearing of masks mandatory at crowded places, markets and in public transport, as 3,067 more people tested positive for the deadly virus that claimed another 77 lives during the past 24 hours.

The government also decided to double the number of overseas Pakistanis being brought back daily. The announcements were made by Special Assistants to Prime Minister (SAPM) Dr Zafar Mirza and Dr Moeed Yusuf during a media briefing.

Dr Mirza said: “As 92 per cent cases have been reported through local transmission, we have declared the use of masks mandatory in markets, shopping malls, public transport, commercial flights, trains and crowded places.”

Expressing concern over some baseless information regarding Covid-19 being circulated on the social media, Dr Mirza said: “Even prominent and responsible personalities share that information on the social media. I don’t want to mention the name but a prominent religious scholar suggested to people that they should not go to the hospital if their Covid-19 test is detected positive. I appeal to the people to provide correct information to the masses.”

About measures being taken to bring back stra¬nded overseas Pakistanis, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Security Division Dr Moeed Yusuf said: “We were bringing 1,000 Pakistanis daily but now it has been decided to bring 2,000 per day. From 1st to 10th June around 20,000 stranded Pakistanis will be brought. Of them 8,000 will be brought from the United Arab Emirates and 4,000 from Saudi Arabia. We will soon introduce policy for the stranded Pakistanis due to which they would be able to reach Pakistan without any difficulty.”

Till date over 33,000 stranded overseas Pakistanis had been brought from over 50 countries, he added.

While talking about resumption of routine flight operations, he said that only flights from Pakistan to other countries had been allowed and it was incorrect to say that anyone could come to Pakistan through routine flights.

Dr Yusuf said borders with China and India would remain closed though some hundred Pakistanis were allowed to return from India in three intervals.

“As per agreement of Afghan Transit Trade goods are being sent to Afghanistan. As Nato supply also goes there, around 250 trucks are being allowed through Torkham and Chaman borders daily. Moreover, once in a week 500 Pakistanis are allowed to return through Torkham and 300 through Chaman border,” he said.

He said there was no restriction on the Afghan nationals staying in Pakistan to return to their home country.

Shehryar tests positive
Minister for States and Frontier Regions Shehryar Afridi on Saturday revealed that he also became victim of Covid-19.

“I have tested positive of Covid-19 & have isolated myself at home as per advice by medics. I need prayers & blessings. May Allah almighty help save all my countrymen from the pandemic under my PM,” he tweeted.

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani and other leaders had also tested positive for Covid-19 and recovered.

Ghani tweeted a “get well soon” message to Afridi, while Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari also wished him well on Twitter. “You’re strong and will recover in no time InshaAllah,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party has shown concern over the continuous increase in number of virus cases.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said as many as 96 deaths [according to his claim], including four of doctors, has made the situation serious. He said: “Rulers should adopt responsible attitude and don’t become a locust of demolition.”

The total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to 68,283 from 24,954 on May 7 when Prime Minister Imran Khan announced further easing of lockdown till the month end, while the death toll has increased from 593 to 1,441 during this period.

This is what happens when you have a nation that thinks corona is fake. All the getting togather on Eid is all catching up now!

It will go further up. In Islamabad we have a positive rate of 15% which means we are not catching enough. This is the city with best test to population ratio, best adherence to social distancing and best contact tracing program in the country. If we are not catching enough, what's the hope for the rest of the cities?

I think atleast a 10x multiplier is in order, most probably higher. That is case from studies in countries testing much higher than us. Same with India, a 10x multiplier.

The good news is that with our CFR of 2.1, our IFR will be much lower, around 0.2 if 10x holds.

Some are projecting that we will have our peak in early June. I hope they have some solid data and that's true. It's been 3 months already, enough time for the first wave to peak.

People are still in denial.

Tbh many of the desis in the UK are the same. Everyone you talk to seems to have a conspiracy theory about the virus. My own brother told me that they are using ventilators to kill people and the whole thing is fake.

Lol not sure what IK has said wrong. He has been pleading with the nation and people to take all necessary precautions while going on with their regular lives. If the people are not taking precautions, how can you blame the leader. I actually blame IK for not directing the police and army to physically beat up, impose bankrupting fines and jail people violating social distancing SOPs

I was just on a conference call with 5 friends of mine and all of them were super stressed about the potential of being laid off from work because of the decline in business at work and the companies that they were working with were now being micro managed at the top levels, something they had never seen before in their lives and all these guys are living in the West

72 more deaths reported from Coronavirus today in Pakistan - the daily average is now above 70 deaths - more than double of that around a week-10 days ago

Where the daily average overall for deaths in Pakistan is around 8.000.

Not doing bad.

450 prisoners in Karachi’s Central Jail have so far tested positive for Coronavirus - one of them, an 87 year old man in prison since 25 years for a murder, died from the disease - a 27 year old inmate in Malir Jail also passed from the disease - he had a pre-existing condition

highest new cases - just over 3000 - around 80+ people died, not looking good.

he has to use the army / police to distribute food to the poor, is he scared of people dying

The virus is showing exponential growth again.

It seems like Eid events really worsened things.

Mask wearing must be mandated and all nonessential gatherings must be outlawed !

• 2,785 more contract coronavirus in a day, tally rises to 71,068
• Minister asks officials to plan strategy for further easing restrictions

ISLAMABAD: As over 54,000 people contracted the novel coronavirus and more than 1,100 patients died in Pakistan during the month of May, the percentage of tests with positive result has also increased tremendously.

The tally of countrywide cases surged to 71,068 from 16,817 cases, which were reported on April 30 by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), with the latest addition of 2,785 cases in a single day.

The death toll also jumped by 79 during the past 24 hours to cross the 1,500 mark.

According to the NCOC, the country had 16,817 coronavirus patients (6,053 in Sindh, 6,340 in Punjab, 2,627 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,049 in Balochistan, 343 in Islamabad, 339 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 66 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir), with 385 deaths reported till April 30 since the detection of the first case on Feb 26.

However, the situation completely changed during the last one month.

So far, 28,245 cases have been reported in Sindh, 25,056 in Punjab, 10,027 in KP, 4,393 in Balochistan, 2,418 in Islamabad, 678 in Gilgit Baltistan and 251 cases in AJK.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) Dr Zafar Mirza on Sunday said the situation was continuously deteriorating as not only number of cases was increasing but percentage of the positive tests was also rising.

At a media briefing, he said: “Currently, 723 patients are in critical condition, of whom 201 are on ventilators. Overall 28pc ventilators, dedicated for the Covid-19 patients, are being used, but the ratio is increasing.” However, he said, as pressure was mounting on tertiary care hospitals, an (wrong) impression was being built that the healthcare system had collapsed.

Dr Mirza said a Resource Management System (RMS) had been introduced to ensure that the patients were shifted to only those hospitals which had vacant intensive care beds and ventilators.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Board Shabahat Ali, who also participated in the media briefing, said for last two months preparations had been under way to launch the RMS. The system will be made available across the country on June 1.

“Because of the system it will become possible for the provinces and healthcare facilities to provide information regarding vacant or available ICU beds and ventilators. Moreover, a mobile app has been launched due to which emergency response service providers will be able to shift the patients to the hospitals having vacant beds,” he said.

Plan to ease restrictions

While chairing a meeting of the NCOC on Sunday, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar directed the committee to devise a plan to further ease lockdown while ensuring that SOPs are strictly followed.

The NCOC is working to devise long- and short-term strategies on Covid-19 titled “Living with the Pandemic”.

The minister directed the relevant officials to pursue a vigorous awareness campaign to highlight the measures being taken by the government to contain Covid-19 and underscore its achievements in this regard. The campaign should also focus on ensuring behavioural change towards the virus while also underlining that the main aim of the government was to safeguard the people from the pandemic.

Expressing satisfaction over the availability of ventilators at hospitals across the country, the minister directed the officials concerned to provide latest data on the availability of beds and related facilities for the information of the infected people.

The committee was told that the RMS would be launched across the country on June 1. Under this system, the hospitals would share the details of local resources available to them, total admitted patients, denial of admissions, number of beds and ventilators available, as well as other facilities being provided to them.

SAPM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said the health ministry was planning to mobilise retired doctors of public sector hospitals, young doctors, doctors on house jobs, and final year medical students to cope with the situation. Moreover, new doctors and paramedics would be recruited through walk-in interviews.

The forum was apprised that the provinces had been asked to ensure community mobilisation and set up call centres in their respective areas by June 15.

The committee was also told that Sindh and Balochistan governments preferred the home-quarantine policy instead of imposing smart lockdown in specific areas.

The NCOC meeting was attended by Interior Minister Brig (Retd) Syed Ijaz Ahmed Shah, Minister for National Food Security and Research Fakhar Imam, Minister for Economic Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Dr Moeed Yousaf.

Over 600,000 people may be infected with virus in Lahore

LAHORE: More than 600,000 people could be afflicted with the novel coronavirus in Lahore alone, a summary sent to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar estimated.

As per the summary based on results of “smart and random sampling”, 6 per cent of the total samples collected in some areas tested positive for the deadly disease. Whereas, in other areas, 14.7 per cent of the total samples turned out to be positive.

There isn’t a single area in the provincial capital where there is no case of Covid-19, the summary said.

It contained the recommendations put forth by members of the Technical Working Group that carried out the exercise in the city. The recommendations included imposition of a complete lockdown in the city for four weeks.

Meanwhile, CM Usman Buzdar has directed the authorities concerned to ensure strict implementation of the standard operating procedures in markets and bazaars in view of the prevailing situation of Covid-19.

He called for effective monitoring of implementation of the SOPs. He urged people to follow the guidelines set by the government in order to remain safe from coronavirus.

The CM said the government allowed the operation of businesses while realising the economic hardships of the common man.

And what does the graph tell you? How many deaths in Pak per million?

There’s a direct correlation of the spike in deaths to the easing of the lockdown and subsequent mad rush in the markets.

Everyday we’re setting new highs for new cases per day

'No disease-free area': Summary to Punjab CM estimates 670,800 cases in Lahore alone

An alarming summary presented by the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department to Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar almost two weeks ago had revealed that "no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free" in the provincial capital, and that total virus cases in the city are estimated at around 0.7 million, it emerged on Monday.

Advising the chief minister to immediately enforce a complete lockdown for "at least four weeks", the summary said a smart lockdown would not work since all areas of the city had been impacted by the disease, adding that asymptomatic cases became the "main source of infection and local transmission" in the metropolis.

"Any subsequent decision of lifting, relaxing or doing away with lockdown measures should be taken after reviewing the results of smart sampling conducted with regular intervals till the final tapering down of the virus," it had recommended.

The summary — signed by Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Muhammad Usman and dated May 15 — listed the results of a "smart sampling project" to "detect and determine the spread of Covid-19 and to structure and guide [the department's] response towards its containment".

Under the exercise, randomised targeted sampling (RTS) and smart sampling (SS) were carried out; the former was to determine the prevalence of the disease in occupational sectors that remained functional during the lockdown, while the latter was to understand community spread.

After these exercises, the report said, it could be estimated that Lahore, which has a population of over 11 million, has around 670,800 coronavirus cases. But as of June 1, the entire Punjab province has officially reported just 26,240 infections and 497 fatalities.

Analysing the data from various hotspots including workplaces and residential areas, the summary noted "a worrisome picture of Covid-19 prevalence" in communities, with 5.18pc infection rate for RTS and 6.01pc for SS.

"This means that no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free and, as such, Lahore exhibits an alarmingly similar transmission pattern."

Elaborating on the findings for the testing carried out in the provincial capital, the summary stated that six per cent of all those who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19, while some towns showed a positivity rate as high as 14.7pc.

"These cases being asymptomatic could not be reported to health facilities, but became the main source of infection and local transmission," the report said.

"The town wise breakdown shows a value of more than three per cent for all towns — except Wagha Town — and ranges between 2.11pc and 9.33pc."

The summary added that people over 50 years of age are the ones most affected by the respiratory illness, as is reflected in international literature and research.

The summary concluded that any decisions regarding lifting or enforcing lockdown measures can't and shouldn't be taken in isolation. "It should be necessarily articulated through larger consensus and based on evidence gathered through smart sampling and testing."

The summary said that the sampling exercise was carried out with the technical assistance of a working group, consisting of a panel of experts, that was constituted on the directives of the provincial cabinet to provide an international perspective and input to determine Covid-19 prevalence.

And Lockdown is relaxed even more, by the way does virus spread only on Saturdays and Sundays now? If not then either do a proper lock down or end this drama completely and life should be as normal as it can be and leave everything Allah k bharosa and leave everyone to look after his own safety and follow SOPs, but their should be zero restrictions on anything from government. what this 2 din ka per week lock down will achieve, kya in 2 din wo daily wagers ko hakomat de ge paisay, ya Saturday Sunday ko unko bhook payas nai lgti, never saw such confused policy and confused leader, i am not saying k have total lock down but atleast make a clear policy, ye half teetar half bter policy will take us no where.

Religious gatherings and shopping are responsible for this mess!

Traders and Business community is to be blamed equally as of Religious Mafia. They have successfully propagated the myth that Corona is a conspiracy and there is no reality to Corona deaths. Public has bought this story and Traders have got their consumers back in line, just like Religious Mafia.

More than SOPs and Lockdown, the bigger problem right now is to rectify perception of Covid among Public.

Admitted patients with symptoms are fleeing away from hospitals for fear of administration and doctors poisoning them deliberately.

With due respect but a lockdown will never work in Pakistan.

Perhaps forcing 65 plus age group to stay home could work.

But a lockdown will never work in Pakistan. Due to several reasons.

Quarantine or a lockdown is the only foolproof method to contain the virus spread. You don’t need to be a doctor to know that. You can watch a zombie apocalypse type of movie to figure that out.

However I do agree lockdown will have economic implications especially in our part of the world where there is a lot of poverty.

There has to be a middle ground to work around that or planning.

Saying a lockdown will not work and by that not containing this pandemic is stupidity to be honest and at the same time shutting everything down and let people fend for themselves is not being empathetic to the poor as well.

Just like you said about the high risk demographics, there had to be an official do’s and Dont’s and what’s allowed and not.

It was being handled fairly well wasn't it? Did the government relax restrictions for celebration of Eid?

Yes for 10 days they did.

All markets opened and people flocked as if corona had ended. Markets were jam packed and traffic on roads was insane.

And with a week to two week delay; the cases have spiked up exponentially as this chart shows.

Almost 4000 positive cases with about 16k tests carried out in last 24 hours, an infection rate of 25 percent.

Either it's going to cripple the country in weeks to come or PM imran will lead pakistan to herd immunity.

a Lockdown is a temporary measure. it can slow the spread but thats it. It wont stop the spread. You can initiate smart lockdowns and slow the spread in certain areas. Unfortunately there is no stopping this virus. All a poor country like Pakistan can do is keep deaths low, hope recoveries increase and the basic health system is not overwhelmed. It is heavily populated, dense areas like slums and poor healthcare.

The govt has done very well to slow the spread, and keep deaths to a relative minimum. It has bought them time to get ventilators, PPE and other logistics up to speed. They believe they are now in a position to deal with any surges.

Total failure of the government!Plus, illiteracy of our public!! We are doomed!

your in hong kong..i wouldnt worry.

As for Pakistan. There is no choice whatsoever. You can talk about locking down the country for months. Then what? You cant lockdown for more than three months. The country would collapse economcially if there is a prolonged lockdown. That is a fact.

So what do you do? you take your chances with the virus. End of. You cannot do anything else.

Instead of blaming this govt you should question the state of the economy. The govt cant feed everyone to ensure a prolonged lockdown. It cant do it. This is the reality.
