Could Noman Ali be our main spinner when playing against SENA sides?

Pakistan still does not have a spinner that could play in overseas wickets.

Shadab is made out of glass and always find himself injured.
Yasir is a beast in Asia, but is not good when it comes to SENA tours.

Could Nauman Ali be a good fit in SENA? Could he become our main spinner on foreign tours?

2-3 years max from the looks of it
He is a jugaroo job from the selectors for the short term while PCT gets thier house in order

If Pakistan were touring someplace right after this series there could have been a case, but he's hardly any long term prospect.

Nawaz keeps things tight like NA
But he is also a good batsman

But personally down the line I would pick Gohar for that role

Nauman is just an okay spinner, he is nothing special. Why would you pick a 45 year old spinner when you can find someone else who can do a similar job with the ball but has more upside with the bat?

Nauman over Nawaz/Gohar is not a sensible decision in my view. It would only make sense if Nauman was some exceptional SLA like Herath or Jadeja, but that is not the case.

Did u watch nauman bowl?? I thought he was beating the batsman in flight well which is a necessary art in test cricket and not everyone possesses it. And can hold a bat too with 10 first class fifties

He's ok for the next few years of test cricket. He'll be steady and will get plenty of wickets. By the time we tour SENA again I would like to see a young spinner make a name for himself. But here is the dilemma, if you dont blood someone now how will they be ready for a SENA tour? we need to have another young spinner alongside yasir and Nauman. Like Leach and Dom Bess. Leach is an uncle and Bess is the youngster. Maybe bring Usman Qadir and Zafar Gohar into the test mix..

Nawaz averages 67 with the ball in the new domestic system, Nauman averages 24. There's no comparison between the two as bowlers.

Nawaz is another bits and pieces like Shadab whose only utility would be on square turners like in PSL1 when everyone went gaga over him, only to get a reality check when he bowled on truer surfaces.

For a spinner you need experience.

Nawaz zafar and shadab do not have experience.

You need experience spinners because experience spinners know how to set up players..

I think Zahid Mehmood deserves a go at some point. I am no longer too convinced with Yasir. This isnt a great South African batting line up and they are pretty poor versus spin. I think England or Australia would negate Yasir even in Subcontinent conditions.

He cant do a same job with the ball. He is more like shadab and imad wasim , a bits and pieces player. There is need to have a bowler like nauman ali who can contribute with the bat regularly in the lower order with min of 20 -25 runs.

Also these spinners atleast need to know how keep things tight against batsman and get the wickets of tail in SENA test.

Nauman with his abundance of fc experience can be trusted and backed to do that. Unfortunately his age is not on the right side but still can offer 3-4 more years as a spinner.

Pakistans wait for the replacement of zulfiqar babar is over but its too late should have been atleast 3 yrs earlier.

The logic was that a 10 over accurate spell needs experience, skill and patience, which is mostly likely to come from someone who has done well in test cricket or domestic 3/4 day game.

Had Abrar played and failed instead of Shadab, then the narrative would have been that Abrar is inexperienced and Babar should have persisted with Shadab and showed faith in him etc.

The bottom line is that our fans refuse to accept that we are not good enough no matter who we pick.

i agree with the fickle fans concept, but Babar is at fault for not trying these spinners earlier. Why did Babar play his buddy Usman Qadir agianst England when Abrar was in the squad. Usman got all the games.

Absolutely Nauman should play. He’s vital for Pak in tests wherever we play. Infact I think Sajid should have been there also. The spinners could be more affective than the hamza -abbass attack especially if it goes into day 4 and 5. One spinner is a must.

Pakistan cricket should learn from history when it comes to playing in SENA conditions. There are 2 conditions when it comes to selection of a spinner in SENA conditions:
1. Do we have a fast bowling all-rounder?
2. Can the spinner sustain a low economy rate and help build pressure from other end?

The answer to first question is yes with Aamir Jamal. In instances where Jamal isn't playing the answer to spinner question should be "no".

The second answer is a critical one. Should we play a spinner we need someone to build pressure and be spot on with tight line and length as such give no free runs away. Can Nauman Ali play that role, I don't think so because in the past he has been easily been dominated. Can Abrar play that role, perhaps but the sample size is too small to confirm. If Nauman has to play he has to ensure his economy remains less than 3 to be useful to the side.

Don't make the mistake of extrapolating the odi scenarios into test. There's no run rate pressure to make the batsmen attack vs spin.

I've seen even test matches in SA to know it won't work here.

In case you didn't know we made Yasir Shah play 2 tests here on our last tour in 2018 and he averaged 123.

Lyon and Ashwin both averaged 42 on their last SA tours as well.

Even harmless medium pacers have a better chance of success in SA than spinners.

If you still wanna believe in your spin fantasy tho, go on.
