Zulfiqar Babar had to bowl 10 years into domestic cricket before he was given a debut against South Africa in a Test series. The experienced spinner held a bowling avg of 20 at the time in first class cricket, an avg which was even better then Saeed Ajmals.
Babar had been amongest the top 5 wicket takers plenty of times in the quaid e azam trophy, but yet he had to wait for his debut as Ajmal had made himself irreplaceable for quite some time.
Soon Abdur Rehman's poor form and fitness allowed Babar to be given a chance.
Today many posters make fun of Zulfiqar Babar by calling him Zulfiqar "Baba", but we should not forget that when Ajmal got banned, it was he who helped Pakistan in the hard times until Yasir Shah came along.
Zulfiqar is one of those players who has massive amount of experience and you could tell by his action and his follow through that he knows spin bowling. His action which is quite difficult but helps him generate natural spin is an action that must have taken years to develop.
Zulfiqar Babar hasn't really performed well at the international arena lately, but he has been very economical, able to keep pressure on one end.
From the International Arena it might look like as if his career is over. However, the old stallion is still picking chunks of wickets in each domestic game, in the last 4 first class games, he has taken two 4ers and 2 5ers.
This performance shows that Babar has still not given up, and he will still fight for a spot for the national team untill his body could allow him to.
