Zulfiqar Babar had to bowl 10 years into domestic cricket before he was given a debut against South Africa in a Test series. The experienced spinner held a bowling avg of 20 at the time in first class cricket, an avg which was even better then Saeed Ajmals.

Babar had been amongest the top 5 wicket takers plenty of times in the quaid e azam trophy, but yet he had to wait for his debut as Ajmal had made himself irreplaceable for quite some time.

Soon Abdur Rehman's poor form and fitness allowed Babar to be given a chance.

Today many posters make fun of Zulfiqar Babar by calling him Zulfiqar "Baba", but we should not forget that when Ajmal got banned, it was he who helped Pakistan in the hard times until Yasir Shah came along.

Zulfiqar is one of those players who has massive amount of experience and you could tell by his action and his follow through that he knows spin bowling. His action which is quite difficult but helps him generate natural spin is an action that must have taken years to develop.

Zulfiqar Babar hasn't really performed well at the international arena lately, but he has been very economical, able to keep pressure on one end.

From the International Arena it might look like as if his career is over. However, the old stallion is still picking chunks of wickets in each domestic game, in the last 4 first class games, he has taken two 4ers and 2 5ers.

This performance shows that Babar has still not given up, and he will still fight for a spot for the national team untill his body could allow him to.

age is not on the right side for Zulifqar. Plus he hasn't been good off late either. It's high time to bring in a talented youngster.

Same was also said about misbah that age wasnt on his side.

If he has fitness he could still play

.

Lolwut?

Yasir Shah came in the VERY NEXT series after Ajmals ban

Was brought into the international side a bit too late as his domestic form which he was expected to bring to international cricket faded off quite quickly and he as expected was benched.

Same was the case of Rehman too IMO he was played at the right time but then stupidly dropped and the brought back but kept being in and out.

Rehman is doing fine in domestic cricket. If we have to select old player than Rehman is not a bad choice.

Honestly, Zulfi's been looking like a buffet bowler in his last two Test series for Pakistan. Time to move on.

Over and out for Zulfi.

He's been an honest and hard working pro but it's time to move on from him.

I agree, but I think that Pakistan cricket is at a crossroads.

Either:

OPTION 1: Mickey Arthur will emerge dominant with Misbah retiring, and that will mark the end of every player older than Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Wahab Riaz.

Or:

OPTION 2: Misbah will retire, but Misbah will be appointed as the new coach, with Mickey Arthur harshly dismissed. If this happens, Mohammad Hafeez will become the Test captain and Zulfiqar Babar will be in every Test squad for the next couple of years.

you need to try understand every selection Misbah does.

Babar was being selected not because Misbah loved him personally, problem is we don't have another spinner int he background. Asghar got his Pakistan A recently, even playing him right now is risky

This is what i hate about People, everyone thinks Babar is some lulloo bowler. Guy might not be taking wickets, but he is a fantastic bowler, this you could tell by his bowling action

I half agree.

Babar used to be an excellent bowler, but now he is past his best.

The problem in my opinion is to do with Misbah's cricketing priorities.

Misbah will always go with a trusted and reliable 35 year old in preference to taking a chance on a promising 25 year old.

I am the opposite - like Imran Khan and Mickey Arthur I think that it is important to replace such players with younger ones so that the youngsters have a chance to reach their full potential and so that a team continuously is overhauled and never goes past its best.

Each point of view has some validity. But the Misbah approach is blind to when Younis, Hafeez or Zulfiqar become liabilities. Just as mine risks too many youngsters failing.

Why didn't Zulfiqar Babar retire in last series with some dignity? Now he will be playing domestic cricket for rest of his career

easy for someone sitting on his computer to say.

But you dont even have an ounce of an idea how hard these guys train and work to become a professional cricekter.

Would you be willing to quite your job after working so hard to get it?

This guy is playing for Quetta Gladiators after being dropped. At least he is making money.
